Chapter Index

Amisha noticed the disappointment in the young witches’ eyes. “Do you know what my Talent test results were when I first enrolled?”

The young witches shook their heads.

The 《Young Witch’s Primer》 only said that Lady Amisha was an all-powerful witch who surpassed the Peak level, the foremost of the Book Witch’s twelve apprentices, and the Headmistress of the Witch Academy for the past hundred years.

“When I took my entrance exam, my lightning magic Talent was the standout, reaching Peak level. Next was my water magic Talent, at the Advanced level. All my remaining Talents in other elemental branches were only at the Apprentice level.”

    “What?”

    The young witches were stunned.

Those Talents didn’t seem that different from their own!

Only when your corresponding magic reached the Advanced level or above could you be called an “XX Witch.”

An all-powerful witch had to have trained all elemental branches of magic to at least the Advanced level.

How could someone with so many Talents at only the Apprentice level be called an “all-powerful witch”?

“And now, even my weakest elemental branch has reached Peak level,” Amisha continued. “The title of all-powerful witch is well and truly earned!”

“How is that possible!” This overturned everything the young witches had previously understood.

“Nothing is impossible. Talent imposes great limitations, but there are ways to compensate.” Amisha said, “Do you know why every powerhouse in Valen is so desperate to reach the Well of the Sky?”

The young witches shook their heads.

“It’s because once you enter the Well of the Sky, anything becomes possible! Changing your Talent is just one of many things it can do.” Amisha said, “So don’t give up too quickly.”

This news made the young witches’ eyes go wide. “The Well of the Sky?”

The young witches only knew the Well of the Sky as a gateway for the powerful to explore other worlds. They had no idea it held such opportunities.

“What exactly is inside the Well of the Sky?”

“What do you have to sacrifice there to change your Talent?”

Not a single young witch didn’t want stronger Talent, and they all began asking eagerly.

Who wouldn’t admire Lady Amisha, who had earned the title of “all-powerful”?

She was the only witch besides the Sorceresses who was truly all-powerful!

Even Sorceresses only had Limitless Talent across all elements—that didn’t mean they had mastered every branch of magic.

Mo Lan had always paid close attention to the Well of the Sky, and this was the first time she’d heard that it could enhance one’s Talent.

She was eager for Lady Amisha to say more about the Well of the Sky.

But Amisha refused to elaborate further. “You must surpass the Peak level before you can even reach the Well of the Sky. And once inside, obtaining what you want still requires tremendous strength.

What you need to do is focus on the present, study hard, and improve yourselves. When you reach that level, you’ll naturally come to understand these things!

Now, let’s get back to the matter at hand! You haven’t forgotten what class this is, have you?”

The young witches’ daydreams about the Well of the Sky came to an abrupt halt. “Broomgrass!”

“That’s right! The space inside the greenhouse is different from outside—the Academy Castle’s bells can’t reach in here.” Lady Amisha knew without checking her pocket watch. “Class has already begun.”

She always arrived at the classroom right on the dot.

The allure of broomsticks was equally strong for the young witches, and it immediately pulled most of their attention back. “Headmistress, where is the broomgrass?”

“Right under your noses!” Amisha said.

    The young witches: “???”

They began carefully examining the plants around them.

“Broomgrass is a magical plant—is it that one with the serrated leaves? It’s the only single plant with obvious energy traces on it.” Vasida pointed at a clump of grass not far away. “But those leaf blades are way too sharp!”

“That’s not it!” Sylph shook her head. “I’ve seen that one in *Common Magical Plants and Basic Potion Brewing*. It’s sawgrass—when its sap is applied to metal blades, it makes them sharper. After soaking in a hardening potion, the leaves can even be used as a saw.”

“Could it be that blue flower? It has energy traces too, so it should be a magical plant, but it doesn’t look like something you could make a broomstick from!” Mo Lan guessed.

“That’s not it either. That’s a blue-blue flower—its petal sap has an extremely strong dyeing effect, and you have to use its stems and leaves to wipe the color off. When I was little, my mother used those flowers to make me a dress,” Cheryl said.

The young witches looked left and right but couldn’t find a single magical plant within sight that looked like it could be made into a broomstick.

“Headmistress, which one is the broomgrass?” Unable to guess, the young witches had no choice but to ask the Headmistress for help.

Even the textbook only started its explanation from the point of obtaining broomgrass seeds, without so much as including an illustration. They had absolutely no additional information to go on.

“These, these, and those over there—all of them!” Amisha swept her hand in a wide arc, encompassing nearly every ordinary weed in sight.

    “What? All of these?”

The young witches were dumbfounded. “You mean broomsticks are made from these common weeds you can find anywhere? They’re not even magical plants!”

Looking across all the races of Valen, only witches—despite having no wings—could each and every one fly.

They relied on broomsticks for that!

Broomsticks that only witches could use, at that.

And they were made from common weeds?

“What else did you think? If they were made from some rare magical plant, do you think witches in the past, given their circumstances, could have managed a broomstick for every single witch?” Amisha said.

    Mo Lan: “…”

The three most important things to a witch—the Wand, the broomstick, and the Grimoire—one was made from a tree branch, one from weeds, and one from bark and stone slabs.

The materials really were, without exception, simple and easy to obtain!

Still: “These aren’t even the same species, are they? Can they all be used to make broomgrass? And doesn’t the textbook say broomgrass is a magical plant?”

“Broomgrass is grass that witches cultivate to make broomsticks—it’s not any specific type of grass! And after cultivation, it does indeed become a magical plant,” Amisha said.

“Any grass will work?” Mo Lan pressed.

“It needs to be grass whose main stem can grow thick, with thin, long, flexible side stems. Shrub varieties tend to work best—after cultivation, the broomsticks made from them are more comfortable to ride.”

Amisha continued, “Now, walk along this path and choose a type of grass you like, then collect its seeds! Although the grass will undergo some changes after a witch cultivates it, the original plant still has a certain influence on the broomstick’s final appearance, so choose carefully.

Also, don’t stray too far from this path.

Besides some ordinary plants, this greenhouse contains many more common magical plants that are meant for your potions classes—for you to study and learn to harvest. Many of them are somewhat dangerous.

Only within ten meters of the path is it absolutely safe, with no harmful plants whatsoever.”
