Chapter 163 – I’m Such a Fool!
by spirapiraChapter 163 – I’m Such a Fool!
Everyone had left, and Mo Lan finally had the chance to see just how many cards Lady Carmela had actually bought.
She took out the {Magic Light Screen Master Card} from the Book of Cards and activated it. A light screen similar to the Card Magic interface appeared above the card.
She searched directly for Carmela in the user data and pulled up an extraordinarily long list.
Five hours ago, Carmela’s Card Magic had been activated for the first time, and within half an hour, she had purchased… Mo Lan counted — she had bought one of every single type of card in the card shop! Even for cards that were categorized by different specifications, she had bought at least one of each specification.
She had purchased quite a few Energy Storage Cards as well.
The {Energy Storage Card – 10,000 Mana} alone sold ten copies, contributing one million Mana worth of one-time magic power — also Mo Lan’s single largest transaction to date.
For the one-Gem-Coin-per-draw gacha, she had drawn 10,001 times.
As for her luck… better not to mention it! In any case, Mo Lan made out like a bandit.
In just half an hour — merely half an hour — Lady Carmela had single-handedly boosted the energy stored in Mo Lan’s Book of Cards’ Purple Gemstone from under two hundred thousand to the millions.
She alone had contributed 1,022,000 Mana worth of one-time magic power. After deducting costs, that was still a full 900,000 Mana in one-time magic power.
The extra was all profit from the gacha draws.
On top of that, she had spent 100 permanent Mana each on Gem Coin storage capacity and card storage slots, plus Card Magic itself — a total of 203 permanent Mana.
Mo Lan could scarcely imagine how vast Lady Carmela’s total Mana reserves must be — at the very least in the millions!
What kind of mega-whale was this?! She was basically no different from those top-ranking big spenders in Earth’s livestream chat rooms.
“I’m such a fool! I actually let my biggest patron treat me to dinner!” Mo Lan was filled with regret.
With how much Lady Carmela had spent, forget one {Manchurian-Han Imperial Feast} card — Mo Lan could have afforded to give her ten!
Mo Lan decided to manually adjust the gacha drop rates for her unlucky patron, giving her a guaranteed jackpot next time — one amazing pull to make her feel great! Otherwise, what if she got fed up with her terrible luck and stopped playing?
Though the bulk of the revenue this time came from the card shop, it was clear that Carmela had only bought one of everything out of curiosity.
Whether she would continue buying in the future was anyone’s guess.
This also reminded Mo Lan that she needed to implement a pity system for certain big-spending customers with bad luck.
She modified the gacha pool rules, adding a pity guarantee to keep the whales hooked.
Then, both nervous and excited, she took out the {Book of Cards} and {Status Card – Mo Lan}, looking at the “Stored Energy” and “Mana” fields.
{Book of Cards}
【Stored Energy: 2,126,478 Mana】
{Status Card – Mo Lan}
【Mana: 2,003 / 2,932 Mana】
“!!!”
Mo Lan clutched both cards and collapsed back into her chair. “That’s way too much!”
The numbers were even still ticking upward, changing every few moments!
She had checked once during the day as well, and back then, the Book of Cards’ stored energy had still been just short of 200,000 Mana, and her total Mana had been only 1,980!
It seemed Carmela wasn’t the only one who had made a major contribution — there were others too!
Mo Lan went to check the user spending records and found a long list of unfamiliar names, each having spent over 100,000.
Some she had even seen in the 《Young Witch’s Primer》 — they were all famous witches at the Peak level or above.
She then checked the Contract Mailbox and, sure enough, found a pile of contracts that had been automatically approved, all written according to the template, with the contractors being witches.
“Headmistress, Headmistress! Did you bring in all these big orders?” Mo Lan couldn’t help calling out to the Headmistress.
“I’m merely a small avatar. I have no idea what the main body has been up to,” came Headmistress No. 69’s voice.
Mo Lan was beside herself with excitement.
She went to look in the mirror and saw that the energy aura around her body had become noticeably brighter, which finally made it feel real.
Her Mana had grown so much, yet she truly hadn’t felt a thing — no discomfort whatsoever.
As expected, selling Magic was the best painless method for boosting one’s Mana!
It was nearly midnight. She couldn’t let this Mana surge go to waste, so she hurried to store some of the excess Mana into the Book of Cards’ Purple Gemstone, keeping only half of her total.
That night, for once, she didn’t fall asleep with her hands on the tools at her bedside, Attuning in her sleep as usual.
Because both of her hands were occupied.
Her left hand clutched the {Book of Cards}, her right hand clutched the {Status Card}, and she kept glancing left and right. Even when she woke up in the middle of the night, she had to check the numbers on the cards.
She slept in unusually late the next morning, and the very first thing she did upon opening her eyes was check the cards.
The numbers had grown a bit more, though the pace had slowed. The stored energy was no longer jumping by thousands or tens of thousands, and her Mana was no longer leaping by tens at a time.
Mo Lan put the cards away, washed up, and had just finished breakfast when there was a knock at the Dormitory door.
She opened it to find it was Lady Amisha from last night. “Good morning, Headmistress! Did you promote Card Magic for me yesterday? My Mana has grown so much — it’s already over 3,100!”
She had just been wondering when the Headmistress would take her to see her otherworldly Magic as promised, and here she was.
What a coincidence — she was certain No. 69 Amisha had tipped the Headmistress off.
As far as she knew, only each young witch’s guardian Headmistress constantly kept tabs on their young witch’s activities.
“I simply took your flyer to the Witch Council for a discussion. For now, we haven’t publicized it widely yet — we plan to roll it out gradually.
When you have time, put together a 《Card Magic》 inheritance tome, similar to 《Book Magic》 — clearly describing the Magic’s effects and the contract template. It should be similar in nature to your flyer.
It will be included in the Academy and Witch Council libraries, so any witch who comes to browse the Council’s collection will be able to see it.
However, most witches don’t live at the Council and don’t visit often. They live scattered about, and news travels slowly, so your Magic sales growth will be more gradual going forward.
That also gives you a buffer period for your own growth,” Amisha said.
“Understood! I’ll get it ready as soon as possible!” Mo Lan said.
Right now her Mana was growing too fast, and her Magic studies hadn’t kept pace. There was no rush to sell Card Magic to every witch at once.
“The reason I’m here today is to take you to the Magic Training Grounds. Would you like to ride a broom, or be teleported there?” Amisha brought up the real purpose of her visit.
“Teleported? You mean that black hole?” Mo Lan was extremely curious.
Every time No. 69 Amisha came to find her or deliver contracts, it was through that suddenly appearing black hole.
She recalled that when they first enrolled at the Academy, they had fallen out of a black hole as well.
“That’s right,” Amisha said.
“Is that your otherworldly Magic too? I don’t think I’ve seen it in 《The Witch Magic Catalog》,” Mo Lan asked.
