Chapter Index

Mo Lan felt a weight clamp around her waist, and then her entire perspective flipped upside down. All she could see was the fluttering hem of Lilith’s School Robe and the Castle corridors whipping past at breakneck speed.

    “(”)!!!”

“Lilith! I said pull me along while you run, not carry me while you run!”

“This is Super Speed, not Super Teleportation! If your feet don’t leave the ground, I can’t bring you along!”

    Mo Lan shut her mouth.

Lilith sprinted with Mo Lan slung over her shoulder, a large pack of fifth-year young witches trailing behind them.

Intermediate Super Speed carried them past the corner in a single breath, leaving their pursuers completely out of sight.

Mo Lan breathed a sigh of relief. Just a bit more running and they’d be safe.

Then Lilith slammed on the brakes and stopped.

“???” Mo Lan looked up in horror. “Lilith! Why did you stop? They’re too close — they’ll catch up any second!”

Lilith took a few perfunctory gasps of breath and glanced back over her shoulder. “Let me catch my breath before running again!”

Only when the pursuers peeked around the corner, almost upon them, did she start running again.

From the second floor down to the first, then she rested again at the first-floor stairwell.

Her speed fluctuated between fast and slow, keeping the pursuers tantalizingly close — never letting a single one fall behind.

Mo Lan was clamped so tightly against her shoulder that she couldn’t even get down to run on her own.

It wasn’t until they reached the entrance to the library that Lilith finally set Mo Lan down, hearing the approaching footsteps behind them. Of course, she didn’t let go — she kept a firm grip on Mo Lan’s arm and said between breaths:

“The customers are about to arrive. It’s showtime! Don’t drop the ball!”

Mo Lan, her feet finally on solid ground again: “You set me up!”

It truly wasn’t that Mo Lan was a coward — the look in the fifth-year seniors’ eyes was far more intimidating than the younger witches from other years.

They radiated a fierce, aggressive energy.

Mo Lan was afraid of getting beaten up! She didn’t have a single combat-capable spell right now, and even with some hand-to-hand skills, she couldn’t take on twenty-eight seniors who were about to graduate!

But it was too late to say anything — the seniors had already caught up.

    “Run! Why’d you stop running?”

Mo Lan took a deep breath and forced a smile. “Seniors, what are you talking about! We were just demonstrating the effects of Sorceress Magic for everyone. You all saw how fast Lilith was just now, right?

That was the Vampire Super Speed. Buy her Vampire blood fusion spell, fuse with Vampire blood, and you can gain both the Vampire Super Speed and rapid healing abilities!

Absolutely essential superpowers for any witch venturing out into the world!”

Since there was no escaping, she might as well earn some Mana! If she didn’t directly pitch her own Card Magic, the seniors probably wouldn’t notice her, right?

“That’s right, that’s right!” Quick as a flash, Lilith pulled a knife from her Mobile Kitchen Card and slashed it across her own arm. Blood sprayed a full three meters.

Mo Lan was deeply moved — her senior was resorting to self-harm just to divert attention for her!

The fifth-year young witches had never seen anything like this!

The most they’d ever witnessed before was Lilith pricking herself with the Bloodthirst Needle. The girls who had been closing in were so startled they stumbled back five meters.

“Hey, we just survived three straight days of exam torture — what’s wrong with chasing you two for a bit? Is that really worth taking a knife to yourself?”

Their tone carried a hint of exasperation. Some reached for their Wands, others grabbed potion bottles.

Several beams of Healing Magic flew toward Lilith simultaneously.

Lilith quickly dodged with Super Speed. “No, no, no — I’m demonstrating a spell here!”

She conjured a stream of clear water with the Spring Water spell and rinsed the blood off her arm. “Look! Already healed!”

    The fifth-year young witches: “!!!”

“A wound that big healed that fast?”

“I remember at the start of the school year, even a needle prick didn’t heal this quickly on you.”

“I’ve already reached Beginner-level rapid healing now!” Lilith said. “With Mo Lan’s blood cards, the blood fusion progress is way faster than before! Seniors, you’re all about to leave the Academy — the Vampire Super Speed and rapid healing are perfect for you. You absolutely cannot miss this opportunity!”

Mo Lan seized the moment to pull out the large promotional poster peeking from her senior’s bag, spreading it wide open. “Seniors, please look!”

“Vampire blood fusion spell — essential for fighting and fleeing?”

“Not 35, not 25, just 5 Mana to take the Vampire blood fusion spell home?”

“One contract, a lifetime of Vampire talents?”

“Even more convenient when paired with blood cards?”

The fifth-year young witches read the lines aloud, confusion written all over their faces.

Vasida and Sylph finally caught up too, unfurling their own posters.

On the walls flanking the library’s stately entrance, four posters assaulted the fifth-year witches’ eyes.

Identical slogans, exaggerated eye-catching text, and even a painting — enormous wheat ears, towering corn, and all sorts of strange plants filling the entire frame.

“Is this still the Witch Academy? I haven’t been to the Castle in a year — has it really changed this much? Lilith is one thing, but even a first-year young Sorceress has already developed mature Sorceress Magic?”

The fifth-year young witches murmured in disbelief.

By the time they snapped out of it, each of them had been handed four flyers, accompanied by four simultaneous ear-piercing pitches introducing Sorceress Magic in rapid succession.

Knowledge ambushed its way into their brains before they could mount any defense.

Their attention was now completely captured by the wondrous Sorceress Magic before them.

The Vampire blood fusion spell went without saying — both Super Speed and rapid healing were incredibly useful talents.

Those who specialized in Healing Magic had zero resistance to an escape spell like Super Speed.

Those who didn’t specialize in Healing Magic had a tremendous need for rapid healing.

The key point was that Sorceress Magic didn’t require innate talent — only permanent Mana.

Five Mana was still affordable for fifth-year young witches who had all reached at least Beginner level.

Recovery magic was even more of a no-brainer — being able to accelerate magical power recovery just by eating! It was practically the dream spell for anyone terrible at brewing potions or chronically low on magical power.

Who knew what misfortunes awaited after leaving school? How could you not buy this spell?

The mutant crop planting magic was impressive too — buy it once and never worry about food again. You might even make a fortune selling grain!

As for Card Magic, it didn’t even need mentioning. Anyone who bought any of the first three spells couldn’t do without Card Magic.

A few Mana for one spell was affordable, but four spells adding up to 18 Mana required some serious consideration.

Most of the young witches went ahead and bought several spells on the spot. Those who didn’t buy immediately still carefully tucked away the flyers containing the contract templates, just in case they’d need them later.

With the spells sold, the Mana for all four of them — Mo Lan, Lilith, Vasida, and Sylph — shot up rapidly.

Mo Lan was long accustomed to this by now, but for Lilith, Sylph, and Vasida, watching their own Mana surge for the first time had them absolutely thrilled!
