Chapter 184 – New Product Tasting
by spirapiraChapter 184 – New Product Tasting
The little witches were chatting away when the Great Hall suddenly fell silent—mouths were open, but no sound came out.
The new students were caught off guard, but Mo Lan and the other returning students were long accustomed to this. They immediately looked toward Lady Amisha.
Sure enough, Lady Amisha spoke: “Silence! No matter where you come from, whether you are a witch or a Sorceress, at the Witch Academy, you have only one identity—student. And your sole task is…”
Mo Lan silently continued in her mind: “…to learn! I hope everyone will cherish the next five years…”
Did Lady Amisha really never change her enrollment speech?
It wasn’t just Mo Lan who had it memorized—the upper-year witches were all familiar with the routine too. But everyone still listened attentively.
Not a single word Lady Amisha said was wasted. The new students listened in a bewildered daze, while the returning students heard it with an entirely different set of feelings.
After the brief encouragement and admonitions, the 《Newcomer’s Guide》 was distributed.
But this time, the little witches clutching the 《Newcomer’s Guide》 with confused yet curious expressions were a new batch. Mo Lan and her classmates had already become second-year upperclassmen, flipping through their Grimoires to check the 《Academic Year Plan》.
The academic year plan had been updated on the page where the 《Newcomer’s Guide》 used to be.
Mo Lan only gave it a cursory glance, noting that it contained the second-year reading list, academic year notices, and course schedules. Before she could look more closely, Lady Amisha had all the little witches step back, then conjured five long tables laden with delicious food and one empty table.
“Alright, let the banquet begin! First-years especially—enjoy this meal well!”
Lady Amisha gave the first-year students a meaningful smile, then left the Great Hall.
The silencing spell was also lifted.
The little witches’ daily three meals usually offered little variety, and the taste could hardly be called good.
Most little witches could only make a fixed handful of dishes—enough to fill their stomachs, nothing more.
This year, thanks to Mo Lan’s seasoning pack cards, they ate a bit better, but it still couldn’t compare to the Magical Feast.
Even among witches skilled in Culinary Magic, aside from Mo Lan, not a single one had reached the level of the Magical Feast.
While the new students were still standing there in a daze, the upper-year witches charged toward their respective year’s long tables.
Even Mo Lan, who had planned to hold a new seasoning pack card tasting event today, was no exception.
At last year’s banquet, she had tasted several delicious things that had stayed in her mind ever since!
For some of them, she couldn’t even identify what ingredients they were made from.
Other little witches found Earth’s cuisine novel, but she found the Headmistress’s Magical Feast equally novel!
This Magic was also an otherworldly Magic. However, the witch who had brought it back from the other world had already passed away. Her legacy magic tome was archived in both the Witch Council and the witch library, available for any witch to copy free of charge.
But according to the information recorded in the Witch Magic Catalog, this Magic could only be learned by witches who had surpassed the Peak level.
So even if Mo Lan wanted to learn it, she had no way to do so.
Mo Lan grabbed an empty plate, served herself several dishes she liked, then carried the plate over to the empty table, eating as she walked.
She summoned the Book of Cards. Its pages flipped, and a card flew out. The card activated, and in an instant, the entire empty table was covered with all sorts of seasoning pack dishes.
Besides the usual staples—hot pot, braised meat marinade, and instant noodles—the majority of the space was taken up by four new seasoning pack cards: hot dry noodles, fire chicken noodles, river snail rice noodles, and hot and sour noodles.
Each type of card had a corresponding tabletop display stand, seasoning pack samples, and a finished dish made with the seasoning pack. On the front side of the table, facing the little witches’ long tables, there was also an oversized, eye-catching tablecloth banner.
“New seasoning pack card tasting event?” Annie read it aloud. “Big sis, why do I recognize every single word, but can’t understand what it means at all?”
Anna: “…”
She couldn’t understand it either, so she perked up her ears, wanting to hear what others had to say.
Perhaps this was some tradition of the witch clan?
The two sisters swallowed hard, but since none of the other new students had moved, they held back in silence.
“Don’t feel bad—we can’t make sense of it either!” Bertha said. “But these cards should be the same thing mentioned on Senior Moira’s flyer, right? It probably has something to do with her Sorceress Talent.”
Under the puzzled and confused gazes of the new students, several more upperclassmen walked toward that strange table, took their places at the empty spots left along it, pulled out cards, and conjured pots, bowls, and other cooking utensils.
The utensils began moving on their own, as if… cooking?
The other new students took it in stride—Culinary Magic, after all; they’d seen their witch mothers use it before. But Anna and Annie had never witnessed such a scene.
How magical!
“New cards now available—everyone’s welcome to try them! Twenty percent off on the first day, plus live demonstrations of how to use the cards!” Mo Lan announced using the Amplification Spell.
The upper-year witches were all well familiar with this routine by now. One after another, they carried their plates over to collect small tasting portions of the four new cards. They ate while watching others demonstrate the cooking methods, and some placed orders on the spot.
The new students, however, couldn’t quite grasp what was happening—especially since every item on that table looked like something that was either inedible or unappetizing.
Mo Lan certainly wasn’t going to let them slip away! The classic products on the table had been prepared specifically for them!
The tasting portions were served in small paper bowls, each one not very large.
Mo Lan waved her Wand without hesitation and, starting with the most fragrant-smelling instant noodles, floated tasting portions over to the new students:
“Give it a try! This is a delicacy from my past life—instant noodles.”
A small paper bowl drifted down and landed in their hands, still wafting a rich aroma. Who could possibly resist that?
Bertha was the first to eat, and she let out a sigh of pure satisfaction.
Anna and Annie had reached the absolute peak of hunger. Seeing the other little witches all eating without any ill effects, they finally couldn’t hold back any longer.
“This is so good!”
A single bite of instant noodles sent their appetites into overdrive—they were even hungrier now.
But the tasting bowl was barely the size of a palm, and that bite of noodles really was just one bite.
Mo Lan certainly wasn’t about to let their attention be stolen by the Magical Feast. The moment someone finished, she immediately floated over another tasting portion: “This is braised meat.”
She insisted on having every new student sample every single product before she finally stopped:
“All of these delicacies can be made using the corresponding seasoning pack cards with just a small amount of ingredients. The cooking method is super simple—even a complete kitchen novice can master it easily.
Go watch the upperclassmen’s cooking demonstrations! Trust me, you’ll definitely need these!
Oh, and don’t miss the Headmistress’s Magical Feast either. After all… it only happens once a year. After this, you’ll have to solve your meals on your own! The Academy only provides ingredients.”
In that moment, all the upper-year witches watched the new students’ expressions with great amusement.
The signature show at every year’s banquet—it had to be said—was truly spectacular.
