Chapter 214 – Angelic Language Class
by spirapiraMo Lan brought the little witches — their confidence in their own intelligence thoroughly shattered by math homework — back to the Dormitory.
“No way! This is really a bedroom and not a storage room? It looks even messier than my storage room!” Iris said.
Apart from the bed and wardrobe, which looked like they belonged in a bedroom, everything else was an assortment of bizarre “junk.”
Ropes of varying lengths dangling from the ceiling beams, wicker baskets, and shelves and wooden platforms of all sizes lining the bedside.
No matter how you looked at it, none of this belonged in a bedroom.
“These things are not junk!” Mo Lan lay on her bed and demonstrated how everything was used. “What do you think? Isn’t it great? It doesn’t interfere with sleep, and I can Attune as many tools as possible. Apart from the larger tools placed by the bed — those are hard to hold one in each hand — I can simultaneously Attune two or three smaller ones at once. The efficiency is terrifying!”
The little witches: “…”
“I’m truly grateful you didn’t saw your bed in half and throw out one side just so you could reach two large tools to Attune at the same time while lying down,” Iris said.
“I did consider it, but unfortunately, the larger tools require more Mana during Attuning. I can’t quite maintain control when Attuning two at once,” Mo Lan said with genuine regret.
“You actually considered it!” Iris was already numb to it.
If they hadn’t witnessed Mo Lan casting multiple spells simultaneously today, they would surely have thought she’d lost her mind.
But now — shocked as they were, once the shock wore off, they couldn’t help but come around to it. After all, it really was useful! Simultaneous casting was just too cool.
That evening, after the second-year witches returned to their rooms, they all renovated their own dormitories.
Simultaneously Attuning several items was beyond what their Mana could sustain, but Attuning one item each night was perfectly manageable without affecting their sleep.
Friday morning brought another round of elective classes.
Three sessions: Angelic, Demonic, and Draconic.
Each session lasted one hour.
Mo Lan, Sylph, and Vasida got up early, leaving time to go fetch Lilith.
This time, Lilith agreed the moment they called for her.
“Coming, coming!” Lilith came out the door clutching her broom, her face full of exasperation. “Are you afraid I’ll run away or something?”
She’d agreed to study — she knew perfectly well to go to class on her own.
“Yes, yes, yes! We were just worried you might accidentally oversleep, weren’t we?” Mo Lan said.
The Angelic classroom was a bit livelier than yesterday’s Alchemy theory class.
Besides Lilith, Alba had also come.
“My talent in light-element magic is exceptional. 《Continental History》 says that angels are the true experts in light-element magic, so I figured learning some Angelic might be useful,” Alba said.
Mo Lan glanced over at Lilith.
Look at Alba — now there’s someone with real awareness!
Lilith: “???”
While they were chatting, Lady Amisha arrived. “Is everyone here?”
“Should be. The other witches all preferred the Imperial Language elective. This class should just be us,” Alba said.
However…
“What time is it? My watch says there are still ten minutes until nine. How is the Headmistress already here? Is my watch wrong?” Alba asked Mo Lan.
Mo Lan checked her own watch. “The time is right. The Headmistress came early.”
This was strange indeed. Lady Amisha had never made mistakes when it came to class times — she always arrived at the very last moment.
“Stop guessing! I came early today because there’s prep work to do,” Amisha said, then turned to Mo Lan. “Put the Projector Card and the Videotape Card (Witch Edition) up for sale! The Camcorder Card can go up too, but purchases must be restricted for witches within the Academy. Recording inside the Academy risks leaking Academy secrets.”
Mo Lan was startled. “The Witch Council approved them? No changes needed?”
Amisha nodded.
Lilith and Alba were completely lost. “What cards?”
Mo Lan swiftly listed all three cards on the Card Magic shop per Lady Amisha’s requirements. “Done!”
Amisha immediately used Card Magic to purchase five Projector Cards and five Videotape Cards (Witch Edition), then distributed one of each to all five of them. “This elective class will be piloting a new video-based teaching format. These two cards are teaching equipment, funded by the Witch Council, and I’m purchasing them on their behalf.
“Note: you only have usage rights to these cards. When you graduate and leave the Academy, they must be returned.
“If you want to copy the teaching videos to take with you upon graduation, you may purchase your own Videotape Cards — but you must use the witch-encrypted special edition.
“Of course, after graduation, you can also make copies at the Witch Council library.
“Regardless of whether this pilot succeeds, the teaching videos will be synchronized to both the Witch Council and Academy Library going forward. You’ll need to provide your own Videotape Cards for that as well.”
Lilith: “???”
She had just attended a third-year elective yesterday, and it wasn’t taught like this at all!
What video-based teaching format? She didn’t understand a word of it. Was there something special about second-year electives? It wasn’t as if she’d never been a second-year!
After receiving the cards, she hurriedly read the card descriptions.
Projection, video — she recognized every word, but had no idea what they meant.
Only after seeing the demonstration images on the cards did she understand. “Something like a Mo-Pic?”
“Everyone, materialize your cards. I’ll teach you how to use them,” Amisha said. “Moira, come help me.”
Five minutes later, each little witch had a tablet-style projector set up on her desk.
The videotapes inserted in the projectors already contained the first and second Angelic lessons, copied from Amisha’s originals.
“Put on one earpiece! That way you can hear both the video and me when I speak.”
The little witches did as instructed.
The moment the nine o’clock bell rang, they immediately pressed play as Lady Amisha directed.
The Lady Amisha on the projector screen began her lecture.
Meanwhile, the real Lady Amisha sat down not far from them, watching them study while also…
Mo Lan’s eyelid twitched. She squinted for a better look. “Good heavens — is that cat’s cradle liquor?”
Lady Amisha was drinking hard liquor during class!
Lilith kept stealing frantic glances at Mo Lan. “What have you done this time that I don’t know about?”
Mo Lan spread her hands with an innocent expression. “Making things easier for everyone’s studies — it’s my duty and I won’t shy from it.”
“Wow! Moira, the picture is so clear! It’s like there’s a tiny Headmistress trapped inside this little box!” Alba marveled.
Their fascination with the projector and video temporarily outweighed their interest in the actual content.
“If you didn’t catch something or zoned out, you can rewind and listen again,” Amisha reminded them while pouring herself another drink.
Even if the elective couldn’t fully adopt the video teaching format, just having everyone watch together in class like this would take a huge load off her shoulders.
In the past, she would never have dared drink anything this strong during a lesson.
