Chapter 215 – Double Speed
by spirapiraThe other young witches quickly snapped back to attention, rewinding their videos and starting over from the beginning.
Mo Lan hadn’t moved a muscle.
For language class videos, most of the time you only needed to listen with your ears.
Her brief moment of distraction just now hadn’t affected the ear wearing the earphone from following the lesson.
Once her full attention returned to the course, Mo Lan actually felt the lecture pace was a bit slow, and adjusted the video playback speed.
She first set it to 1.5x speed. After listening for a while, it still felt slow, so she switched to 2x speed.
At 2x speed, Mo Lan’s thinking speed still had capacity to spare, but Lady Amisha’s voice in the video wasn’t quite as clear anymore.
This was a language class, and considering the importance of word pronunciation, she didn’t increase the speed further. Instead, she flipped through the 《Angelic Dictionary》 while listening to the video lecture, only watching the screen during demonstration segments.
When it came to teaching Angelic pronunciation, she would slow it down slightly, listening at normal speed and quietly repeating after it.
When Mo Lan opened her mouth to read the words aloud, Amisha glanced at her, then leisurely strolled among the young witches with her wine glass in hand.
When she caught a glimpse of the playback speed on Mo Lan’s video, Amisha nearly thought she was drunk.
She hadn’t understood before why the projector tablet even had such a feature.
Now she knew.
As one of the rare Omnipotent Witches, Amisha was often praised by other witches for her diligence and love of learning.
Lady Traci had even said that while her natural talent wasn’t the best, she was the hardest worker through sheer effort.
Before becoming Headmistress, she had only Magic. After becoming Headmistress, she finally had a life.
But now, Amisha declared that the title of “hardest worker” was changing hands.
Fortunately, she had already achieved her goal of mastering All-Element Magic, so she didn’t need to compete with her students anymore.
Better have a couple more sips of wine to calm her nerves!
The other young witches heard Mo Lan’s voice and knew her video had gotten ahead of theirs.
But since they weren’t familiar with the later content, they didn’t know how far ahead she was.
When the ten o’clock bell rang, Lady Amisha tapped the desk to stop them:
“If you haven’t finished listening, you can find time after class to finish on your own.”
“Also, make sure to record yourselves reading the vocabulary words and listen back to compare with the video to check if your pronunciation is standard.”
“Before the next Angelic class, I will check your pronunciation.”
“Language can’t be learned well with just the little time we have in class. You need to spend more time on your own after class.”
“Class dismissed! In ten minutes, same classroom, Demonic class.”
“I’m heading out then!” Alba stored the tablet projector back into a card and left the classroom.
“I still have a little bit left to watch, I’ll keep going!” Lilith said.
Hearing this, Sylph and Vasida also pressed play again.
Mo Lan, however, got up and went to find Lady Amisha, who was waiting for the next class to begin. “Headmistress, are there any more Angelic class teaching videos? I’ve finished watching them all.”
“There aren’t any more.” Amisha was well and truly impressed.
She had stayed up late last night using multiple clones to record teaching videos, recording two lessons’ worth at once, precisely so that any young witches eager to study ahead would have materials to work with.
But she never expected to produce a little Sorceress who watched videos at double speed.
“There are also second-year elective course videos. Would you like copies of those in advance?”
“Yes!” Mo Lan said without a moment’s hesitation.
A minute later, she returned to her seat satisfied, holding tapes with fourteen new lessons added. She put away the 《Angelic Dictionary》, took out the 《Demonic Dictionary》, and opened the first Demonic lesson teaching video. Same as before—double speed.
Today was also the first time she had studied a foreign language while possessing superhuman memory.
She had to admit, the feeling was absolutely incredible.
She truly learned everything she encountered. Once something passed through her mind, it became hers.
The Angelic letters and vocabulary she memorized were as firmly rooted as the witch language that had been infused into her mind through her bloodline at birth.
If she mastered this, without looking at wings, who could even tell her apart from an angel!
Without a shred of difficulty or frustration in studying, filled entirely with the sense of accomplishment from knowledge entering her brain, learning was practically addictive.
After finishing the two one-hour teaching videos, she still felt like she wanted more.
Fortunately, while the Angelic teaching videos had run out, there were still Demonic ones left.
Just as Mo Lan was about to press play, three heads squeezed in front of her tablet projector screen.
One red, one black, one green.
“Oh my goodness! Double speed!”
“No wonder we couldn’t even finish our one-hour, one-lesson video, while you’ve already watched two, Moira!”
“That fast—can you actually understand it?”
Three faces, all shocked.
“Of course!” Mo Lan said. “You can try gradually increasing the speed too. Obviously, you need to be able to understand it first. If it’s too fast for new lessons, you can at least use it when reviewing!”
Lilith, Vasida, and Sylph were half-convinced, half-skeptical as they went back to continue playing their unfinished first Angelic lesson video.
1.2x speed—hey, not bad!
1.5x speed—no, no, too fast!
When listening to pronunciation, they had to slow it down even more.
Then they looked over at Mo Lan, who was listening to a video at double speed while still having the mental bandwidth to read through a dictionary.
The three young Sorceresses: “…”
“I seriously suspect that above witches and Sorceresses, there exists a transcendent being with a third awakening, and it probably looks exactly like Moira. And I have evidence!”
Vasida declared with absolute conviction: “Human women awaken into witches and gain magical bloodlines. Witches awaken into Sorceresses and gain Manifested Gifts. Sorceresses awaken again and gain transcendent memory and cognitive abilities.”
“I feel like what you’re saying actually makes sense!” Lilith said, stroking her chin. “Only an awakening could explain this.”
Sylph looked puzzled. “Didn’t Moira say that her transcendent memory might be a gift from the world consciousness of her previous life? Some Souls from Another World do come with special talents.”
Vasida and Lilith turned to stare at her in unison.
This really wasn’t the time to go blurting out inconvenient truths!
“Friendly reminder—five minutes until Demonic class starts!” Mo Lan said, eyes glued to her book, one ear wearing an earphone, sparing a moment to give them a heads-up.
The three young Sorceresses: “!!!”
Not another word—back to watching immediately.
If the discomfort of having a little bit left unfinished when class ended earlier was a one, then the discomfort of knowing Mo Lan had finished two entire lessons while they hadn’t even completed one was a hundred!
They were all companions who had promised to venture into foreign races’ lands together someday. They couldn’t very well all play mute and leave Moira to do all the talking, could they?
A mute adventure party? Ugh—that would be way too weird!
After finishing the first lesson video, Lady Amisha hadn’t even said anything yet when the young Sorceresses checked the time.
Good grief—five minutes of class time had already passed.
“No other young witches chose this elective, so same rules as before—just keep watching on your own!”
Amisha said in passing while opening a wine bottle.
The young Sorceresses: “…”
These classes really were getting more and more casual.
