Chapter 221 – Teaching Videos

Architectural Magic class? Simple?
Mo Lan suspected Lady Amisha was trying to fool her.
If it were really that simple, then why did so many upperclassmen who had just advanced to fourth year end up sleeping on bedrolls in the small plaza outside the Castle after every enrollment ceremony?
But Lady Amisha refused to issue her a pass to transcribe Architectural Magic books no matter what.
Mo Lan had no choice but to give up on that for now and focus her efforts on Elemental Magic and Spatial Magic first.
Following Lady Amisha’s advice, she started with the theory sections.
《Metal Witch Spellbook》, 《Green Witch Spellbook》, 《Blue Witch Spellbook》, 《Red Witch Spellbook》, 《Orange Witch Grimoire》, 《Cyan Witch Spellbook》, 《Purple Witch Spellbook》, 《Snow Witch Spellbook》, 《White Witch Spellbook》, 《Black Witch Spellbook》, 《Alchemy Witch Grimoire》, 《Potion Witch Spellbook》, 《Spatial Witch Spellbook》.
This series of grimoires—each set comprised many volumes—provided detailed and systematic explanations on how to deeply study each branch of magic and earn the corresponding witch title. They were essential reading for every young witch after choosing her area of focus.
The Second-Year Reading Room only carried the Apprentice to Beginner level portions of each set.
The Intermediate and Advanced portions were all kept in the third-year reading room.
This set of grimoires was definitely not something she could afford to skip.
Beyond those, there were also books on magical analysis and magical applications that were equally important.
After taking stock, these books turned out to account for a full fifty percent of the Second-Year Reading Room’s entire collection.
Fifty percent might not sound like much, but the sheer quantity exceeded all the books in the First-Year Reading Room combined.
Finishing all of them within this year would be an enormously daunting task.
But reading alone wasn’t enough either. Theory was important, but so was practice—she needed to pair her studies with magic training.
On top of that, she still had classes and daily life to balance.
She hadn’t finished the Mo-Pic books yet either, and she couldn’t put those off—they wouldn’t be accessible after fifth year, and she couldn’t transcribe them to take with her after graduation.
Mo Lan tried to map out her schedule, only to find there was simply no way to fit everything in. She gave up on planning altogether—she’d just use every available moment to study.
As for magic practice, she’d just coordinate it with her study progress, using up half her Mana each day as the benchmark.
She’d barely touched today’s Mana yet!
Mo Lan hopped on her broomstick and flew to the Magic Training Grounds.
Indoor Training Ground No. 1 was occupied by third-year upperclassmen, so Mo Lan found an empty training ground and began practicing the Elemental Magic spells from her All-Element Magic introductory class.
Only after she’d burned through half her Mana did she ride her broomstick back and start reading the first volume of 《Metal Witch Spellbook》.

On Monday of the second week of the second academic year, Mo Lan and her classmates attended their first mandatory language class: Valen Common Tongue.
Watching Lady Amisha stand at the podium lecturing from the textbook 《Introduction to Valen Common Tongue》, Mo Lan felt deeply uncomfortable.
She desperately wanted to adjust the playback speed.
Unfortunately, this was a mandatory course—there were no teaching videos for it.
She persevered for three hours before the dismissal bell finally rang.
Mo Lan fixed her eyes on Lady Amisha, ready to rush up and ask whether there were teaching videos for the Valen Common Tongue course the moment she said class was dismissed.
Learning Valen Common Tongue was similar to the elective languages like Angelic and Demonic—perhaps even a bit easier, since it wasn’t a magical language, just pure knowledge that anyone could learn.
After experiencing the efficiency of double-speed teaching videos, Mo Lan found it nearly unbearable to sit through a lecture at this pace.
But then Lady Amisha stopped lecturing—without any indication that class was being dismissed. Instead, she produced some very familiar-looking cards and began distributing them to everyone.
“These are newly issued learning aids from the Academy: Projector Cards and the encrypted witch edition Videotape Cards. Corresponding teaching videos have been recorded for your use during your time at the Academy.
Now, I’ll take a few minutes to use today’s lesson as an example to show you all how to use these two cards. First, take a look at the card information, then materialize the cards…”
Mo Lan sat up straight. Were they rolling out the Projector Cards and Videotape Cards to everyone?
The young witches who had attended elective classes on Thursday and Friday naturally already knew what these cards were about.
Over the weekend, the other young witches had heard about them too.
They had assumed the cards were only for elective courses and had been planning to sit in on those classes next week just to get their hands on the cards!
They hadn’t expected them to be distributed so soon.
Following Lady Amisha’s instructions, they copied “Valen Common Tongue Teaching Video 1” and used it to experiment with the various functions of the Projector and Videotape cards.
“Headmistress, does this mean we can take classes in our Dormitory now? This video doesn’t seem much different from what you just taught us,” Cheryl asked.
Amisha shook her head.
“The learning standards for mandatory courses are quite high. The teaching videos are primarily for preview and review purposes. Regular classes will continue as normal, and you’ll need to attend them at the Castle on schedule.
If you score 95 or above on a monthly exam or midterm, you may apply to self-study via teaching videos for the following month without having to attend class on schedule.
Even if you’re self-studying via video, you must still sit for all exams on schedule.
If you can pass the course’s final completion exam early, then you’re excused from attending the remaining sessions of that class.
As for elective courses, the depth of study is up to you—self-directed learning is the primary approach.
You may watch the videos on your own, or you may come to the classroom during the scheduled class time to watch them there. I will be present during class hours to answer any questions.
Which approach you choose is up to you.
All of the above applies specifically to theory courses. For magic practicum courses, whether elective or mandatory, in-person attendance is required.
The specific rules have been added to the 《Academic Year Plan》. You can review them in your Grimoire after class.”
The young witches listened in a daze. When they opened their Grimoires, the 《Academic Year Plan》 had indeed been updated with a notice about integrating video instruction into the Witch Academy’s teaching system.
“Please take good care of these two cards. They must be returned when you graduate and leave the school. If they are damaged, you will need to pay for replacements at full price.
The library and reading rooms have set up dedicated Videotape shelves. You may copy videos as needed after class.
Class dismissed!”
Lady Amisha walked out of the classroom. The young witches stared at the projectors in front of them, taking quite a while to process everything.
It wasn’t until a purple figure burst out of the classroom that they finally snapped back to reality.
Vasida and Sylph hurriedly gathered their things and chased after her. They spotted Lady Amisha disappearing around a corridor corner, and Mo Lan standing at the doorway examining her cards.
“Moira! Why did you run out so fast?”
“I returned the Projector Card and Videotape Card to the Headmistress and bought two new ones of my own. It’s not like the Mana cost matters much, and this way I won’t have to copy the videos once now and then copy them all over again before graduation.”
Mo Lan waved the cards in her hand. “I’m heading to the reading room to copy videos. Coming?”
