Chapter Index

“As of today, we have finished covering the basic characteristics and study recommendations for all eighteen schools of magic: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth, Wind, Thunder, Ice, Light, Dark, Healing, Blessing, Curse, Prophecy, Summoning, Space, Mind, and Necromancy.

I trust that everyone now has a certain understanding of each school and knows how to pursue deeper study of magic.

However, there is one thing I must remind you of! Never forget that the ability to cast magic of every school is our advantage as witches.

While specializing in your magic, do not neglect the other schools.

Beyond just the eighteen spells covered in class, other spells within each school have their own unique qualities as well.

Even if your talent is insufficient to reach mastery, sometimes just learning a little can prove tremendously useful.

    Especially support-type magic.

    Understood?”

    Amisha reminded them.

Five months into the second academic year, the All-Element Magic introductory course had finally reached its conclusion.

Seeing the young witches obediently nod, Amisha said with satisfaction, “Then class dismissed! Starting tomorrow, the afternoon magic practice sessions will be replaced with Alchemy introductory classes.

You can check the schedule update tonight for specifics.”

The moment Lady Amisha left, the young witches immediately burst into cheers!

“Magic class is finally over!” Iris said. “I am truly sick of those silly Training Dummies!”

Cheryl replied, “Even though magic class is over, we still need to keep practicing magic! We can’t get away from the Training Dummies. Besides, the Training Dummies are so cute!”

“Isn’t the real highlight the upcoming Alchemy introductory class? It’s completely different from the first-year Alchemy course!

I’ve looked through the textbook table of contents for the Alchemy introductory class. While most of it covers magic circles and runes, there are also several lessons on crafting magical items.

The very first one is golden bird stationery—you all know about golden bird stationery, right?” Vasida said expectantly.

Who didn’t know about golden bird stationery! Every other Sunday, golden birds delivered mail to the Academy.

Having been enrolled for so long, everyone had received letters from their families, yet none of them had been able to send a single reply.

Even after learning the Golden Bird spell and being able to summon golden birds, it was the same.

All because they didn’t have golden bird stationery.

Many times, a golden bird would answer their summons only to find there was no letter to deliver, and it would leave in a huff.

It was Lady Amisha who taught them to offer a little magical power as compensation, which appeased the golden birds enough that they wouldn’t stop showing up after being summoned pointlessly so many times.

Golden birds were elemental creatures, and when delivering mail, they often traversed between the Elemental Plane and the Material Plane.

Ordinary stationery couldn’t be carried by golden birds.

Only specially made golden bird stationery could travel with them.

All the young witches were looking forward to the upcoming Alchemy class—all except Mo Lan, who wore a look of melancholy.

“Moira, what’s wrong? Once you learn to make golden bird stationery, you’ll be able to write to your family. Aren’t you happy?” Sylph asked.

“Of course I’m happy!” Mo Lan said. “But without magic class anymore, from Monday to Friday I’ll only have evenings to practice magic, which means even less time for reading.”

    The young witches: “…”

It was a good thing they hadn’t started their in-depth magic studies yet, or else wouldn’t they also have to practice magic in the evenings after a full day of classes?

As for the spells they’d learned in the All-Element Magic introductory course, most weren’t in schools matching their innate talents.

As everyone knew, no matter how much you practiced, it was extremely difficult to raise a spell’s level beyond your innate magical talent level.

For the spells in the schools they were actually talented in, they’d only learned one or two at most by now, and practicing on weekends would be sufficient.

“Ah, forget it! I’m done talking with you all—I’m going back to preview the Alchemy introductory course textbook,” Mo Lan said.

Not being able to practice magic during class time anymore was disappointing, but the Alchemy course was important too! Alchemy Magic was also part of her study goals for this year, and she had been reading alchemy-related books in her spare time.

She had just finished reading the Mo-Pic book 《The Witch’s Complete Alchemy Compendium》 on the library’s sixth floor last month. Recently, she had been reading various alchemy recipe books compiled after 《The Witch’s Complete Alchemy Compendium》 to enrich her understanding and knowledge of runes.

As for the course textbook, 《An Overview of Runes, Magic Circles, and Alchemy》, since it had been compiled before 《The Witch’s Complete Alchemy Compendium》, Mo Lan had assumed everything in it would already be covered in 《The Witch’s Complete Alchemy Compendium》, so she hadn’t read it yet.

With the Alchemy class starting tomorrow, she needed to at least get a general idea of what the course would cover.

The other young witches who had been looking forward to the Alchemy class heard this and lost all desire to chat.

They all prepared to go back and read the Alchemy course textbook as well.

Mo Lan had originally assumed that 《An Overview of Runes, Magic Circles, and Alchemy》, given its title, would cover some foundational knowledge of runes and magic circles. To her surprise, while the book did discuss some runes, rune combinations, and magic circles, it wasn’t presented in any proper theoretical manner at all.

All the runes, rune combinations, and magic circles only had instructions for how to draw them—theoretical knowledge was minimal, practically nonexistent.

Rather than calling it an alchemy introductory book, it would be more accurate to call it a quick-start recipe book for low-level magical items.

Even the rune-drawing instructions only covered the portions used in the magical items described in the book.

Besides low-level golden bird stationery, the book also contained recipes for a low-level magical clock, a low-level magical stove, a low-level Magical Lamp, a low-level magical seal, a low-level invisibility cushion rune combination, and a low-level constant-temperature magic circle.

Magical items and magical plants were graded on the same scale as magic levels.

However, since the Apprentice level corresponded to ordinary items and plants without any magic, the grading for magical items and magical plants generally started from low-level.

Above that came Intermediate, Advanced, Peak level, and so on.

Mo Lan had already seen all the alchemy schematics in this book within 《The Witch’s Complete Alchemy Compendium》 and had long since memorized them.

Most of the items weren’t particularly needed, but the low-level golden bird stationery and the low-level invisibility cushion were different.

One could be used to write letters to Shana’s mother, and the other could be used to modify her broomstick and improve its comfort.

With an invisibility cushion, she would no longer have to wear shorts made from crocodile-bull back leather every day just to dare ride her broomstick.

Mo Lan had wanted to learn to make these two items for a long time. The only reason she hadn’t attempted it was that her understanding and familiarity with individual runes wasn’t flexible enough yet. So instead of jumping in, she had been studying various rune combination and magic circle schematics to broaden her understanding of runes from multiple angles.

Currently, her accumulated knowledge of alchemy runes was still only at about eighty percent. Moreover, even after finishing those alchemy books, she would still need to systematically analyze and organize her understanding of individual rune functions and effects in her mind before she could consider her foundation solid enough to formally begin studying alchemy.

Fortunately, the Alchemy introductory class seemed to require no understanding of individual rune meanings at all, focusing purely on the end goal of producing finished items—which had no real impact on her.

The golden bird stationery Mo Lan wanted to learn was right there in the first chapter of the textbook, and she would get to study it in tomorrow’s class.

This made even her unable to hold back a sense of anticipation.
