Chapter 235 – Golden Bird Delivery

    “Sigh! Let’s just keep trying!”

The young witches ultimately decided to put in more effort during their remaining two days, and they all walked to their seats, preparing for extra practice.

“Good luck, everyone!” Mo Lan grabbed her satchel and headed for the classroom door.

“Moira, you’re leaving already?” Vasida asked in shock.

Mo Lan leaving after class faster than the rest of them—this was a first.

“Mm. I need to get to the training grounds to practice magic, otherwise I won’t burn through even half my mana today,” Mo Lan said.

Her mana reserves kept growing, and completing her daily training goals took longer and longer. She needed to pick up the pace.

“I knew it! So you’re heading to the training grounds!” Vasida felt this was more like it—this was the Mo Lan she knew!

Mo Lan spent four or five hours at the training grounds before finally depleting her mana to half.

She rode her broomstick back to the dormitory under the night sky, read for a while, and then went to sleep.

The next morning, she woke up and continued reading.

In the afternoon, Mo Lan rushed to attend half an hour of Magic Q&A class before leaving. She switched to a different empty training ground and practiced magic for several more hours.

After burning through roughly two-thirds of her mana, Mo Lan headed to the Alchemy laboratory to continue making golden bird stationery.

This was her first time writing back to Shana’s mother, and she had quite a lot to say. She needed to prepare extra stationery, and it was also good practice for her Alchemy Magic.

The process of converting mana into runic force and inscribing runes was itself a form of practicing Alchemy Magic.

Saturday followed the same pattern—half the day reading, half the day practicing magic.

But she deliberately set aside the evening.

She was going to write a letter to Shana’s mother.

Heaven knew how long she had been waiting for this day!

“Dear Mom, it’s been a whole month since your last letter. Did you get a new boyfriend again and forget about your poor daughter slaving away at the Witch Academy?

But I’ve finally learned how to make golden bird stationery, so I can write back to you now!

Hehe, you’ll never guess—I’ve awakened as a Sorceress~ A Sorceress! The kind that punches angels and kicks demons!”

Just as Mo Lan was writing and laughing out loud, Lady Amisha’s voice appeared:

“I must remind you—revealing your status as a Sorceress to a witch outside the Wilds is not a wise decision!”

Mo Lan froze. “Can’t only witches see the golden bird messengers?”

“But once the letter is delivered, that’s no longer the case. Your letter is only the most basic grade of stationery.”

Mo Lan sighed. She did take her own safety seriously.

She had no choice but to crumple up the stationery and incinerate it, then take out a fresh sheet.

“…so I can write back to you now.

Life at the Academy has been rich and colorful, and I’ve gained a great deal.

The witches here have developed a kind of magic card that can display your magical power values and magic level progress. Every young witch has one, and so do I.

In my previous life, kids had to show their parents their report cards. The Witch Academy doesn’t have report cards, so I’ve copied down my magic stats for you to see!

It’s a bit long, so I’ve written it all on the next sheet. Mom, please remember to destroy it after reading.

The Witch Council Library has added several new types of magic, and they’re very easy to learn. Mom, you absolutely must come back and see when you have time! It will definitely, definitely, definitely surprise you!”

After writing this, Mo Lan waited for a moment. No voice from Lady Amisha came from the air, so she knew this approach was acceptable.

If she couldn’t directly tell Shana’s mother that she had awakened as a Sorceress, she would just lure her back to the Witch Council Library.

Once at the Witch Council Library, after seeing the Card Magic inheritance tome, she would understand everything.

Besides, what ordinary young witch could learn so many spells by their second year? Only a Sorceress could!

Perhaps Shana’s mother wouldn’t even need to return to the Witch Council to figure out the good news that she had become a Sorceress.

Just imagining the expression on Shana’s mother’s face when she learned the news made Mo Lan bubble with excitement.

She scribbled rapidly, filling three sheets of stationery, plus an additional sheet with a copy of the magic section from her Status Card. After blowing the ink dry, she carefully rolled them up.

The next morning, Mo Lan kept losing focus while reading, glancing repeatedly at the watch on her wrist. She had never felt time pass so slowly.

When the watch hands reached twelve-twenty, Mo Lan immediately tossed her book aside, snatched up the stationery, grabbed her broomstick, and dashed out the door.

She rode the broomstick up above her dormitory and hovered in place.

In ten more minutes, the Academy’s mail channel would open, and the golden bird messengers would arrive.

The sky above the dormitory district was especially lively at this moment.

Nearly all the second and third-year witches had come out to wait.

Only the first-years, still unaware of this event, were startled by the upperclassmen hovering in the sky above them.

After asking a nearby third-year, the first-year witches grew excited too.

They couldn’t fly yet, so they could only stand in the courtyard and along the paths, craning their necks upward.

Anna and Annie watched this scene with envy.

All their classmates were looking forward to letters from family, but for the two of them, the only family they had left was each other.

“Moira! Is that… a letter in your hand?” Lilith had gotten bored waiting, and when she turned to glance at the younger students, she immediately noticed something unusual.

“That’s right! I can make my own golden bird stationery now!” Mo Lan said with a radiant smile.

“If I remember correctly, you only started Alchemy class this Thursday?” Lilith asked suspiciously. “Don’t tell me you learned it in a single lesson!”

“I had some carving and drawing experience from my previous life, so I picked it up quickly,” Mo Lan said.

    Lilith: “…”

She glanced at the other young witches.

Thankfully, their hands were all empty.

It seemed Mo Lan was the only exception.

If they had all been like Mo Lan, it would have made her—someone who had taken a whole week to learn—look completely useless!

“They’re here!” Mo Lan spotted golden light appearing in the sky—the telltale sign of golden birds arriving!

The young witches stopped chatting, all staring intently at the golden lights above, each hoping that one would fly into her arms.

Mo Lan had gone two consecutive deliveries without receiving a letter, and just thinking about it made her clench her teeth.

This had already happened five times over the past year!

Every single time, Shana’s mother would mention a new “code name” in her following letter.

Those were all her new boyfriends.

So Mo Lan strongly suspected that Shana’s mother had gotten yet another new boyfriend and was too preoccupied to bother with her daughter for the time being.

Based on her understanding of Shana’s mother, a boyfriend stayed exciting for one month at most before the honeymoon phase wore off.

    Within three months—guaranteed breakup!

By now, the honeymoon phase should be over, and she would remember she had a daughter.

Mo Lan watched the sky, and sure enough, one streak of golden light drew closer and closer to her.

    It finally stopped before her.

Mo Lan reached out with practiced ease. The golden bird delivering the letter fluttered its wings on her hand, and a thin sheet of stationery settled into her palm.
