    Chapter 313 – Sprite Blessing

The next day at six o’clock, Mo Lan woke naturally right on time. The other five young witches were still dead to the world. She tiptoed out of bed, prepared breakfast, then walked back to the bedside and shouted with an Amplification Spell:

“Time to get up and eat!”

The young witches who had been sleeping soundly: “!!!”

They were scared half to death!

“Get up and eat! If you don’t get up now, we’ll be late getting to Sylph’s house!” Mo Lan said.

Four sleep-deprived faces stared at her, their expressions frantic.

“Why do you all look like that? Not used to the beds? Didn’t sleep well?” Mo Lan asked, puzzled. “Oh, and where’s Alba? Why are there only four of you in bed?”

“It’s all because of your ghost stories!” Vasida said huffily.

Sylph gave Mo Lan a weightless glance. “You sure slept soundly last night.”

“I didn’t dare stick my head out of the covers all night! I nearly suffocated!” Iris stood with hands on her hips in protest.

“I put my Grimoire over my head last night and memorized common language vocabulary for a long time before I finally fell asleep,” Cheryl said.

Alba’s voice came from behind Mo Lan: “I had it the worst. I needed to use the bathroom last night but didn’t dare go to the washroom alone. I held it in all night. It wasn’t until you got up that I half-consciously woke up and went to the bathroom!”

“???” Mo Lan said. “The aftereffects were that strong? It was all made up!”

“But you also said that maybe other worlds might have them, and that the senior Sorceresses might have brought some back to the Academy,” Iris said.

“Didn’t you all say I was talking nonsense? How come you believe it now?” Mo Lan was confused. “I really was just making things up!”

“I’m feeling my magical power surging with the urge to give a certain someone a beating!” Alba knew full well she couldn’t beat Mo Lan in a fight, but right now she wasn’t alone. “How about you all?”

    Vasida: “To be honest…”

“Hey! Wait! Wait! Save your magical power—we still have a long trip ahead today! And besides… I got up first thing this morning and worked so hard to prepare a heartfelt breakfast for all of you. Do you really want to do this?”

Mo Lan hurried to salvage the situation.

Vasida slid her Wand back into her pocket. “A heartfelt breakfast?”

“Is there meat?” Iris asked too.

“There’s meat, vegetables, and fruit!” Mo Lan said.

At the mention of fruit, Sylph’s expression softened. “Then let’s hurry up and eat! We still have a long trip after.”

Cheryl spread her hands at Alba. “Nothing we can do—the two of us can’t beat her either.”

    Alba: “…”

Her teammates had defected on the spot. What else could she say? She could only channel her grief and indignation into appetite and eat a big meal!

Mo Lan quietly let out a breath of relief. That was close!

After finishing breakfast, they prepared to set off for Sylph’s place.

“My home is here. Take a look and mark it so we don’t get separated later,” Sylph said, pulling out her Academy map.

Mo Lan leaned over to look and felt a sense of familiarity. “Don’t tell me your home is on top of a huge oak tree!”

Sylph nodded. “You’ve been there before?”

“That was the first habitable spot I discovered!” Mo Lan took out her own map to show her. The same location had a mark on it too, labeled “Old Oak Tree Dwelling.”

“Then why didn’t you choose that spot? The old oak tree has very high spiritual sensitivity! It gets along great with Bi’er,” Sylph said.

“Wait! Bi’er?” It had been a long time since Mo Lan had heard that name.

The Sprites had always been in the core region’s Planting District, tending to the Academy’s plants. Why would one come to the Inner Region?

Previously, Bi’er had been assigned to Sylph’s greenhouse because Sylph’s Manifested Gift was special—unresearched mutant plants carried a certain degree of danger. But now that they were in the Inner Region, this was supposed to be a preliminary test of everyone’s survival abilities. Why would the Headmistress agree to let Bi’er follow Sylph to the Inner Region?

Then there was only one possibility. “Bi’er gave you the Sprite’s Blessing and signed a contract with you?”

“That’s right!” Sylph said. “I forgot to tell you.”

Among those present, only Vasida had known about this for a while. It was also because of this that she felt her own dwelling probably couldn’t compare to Sylph’s—after all, having a Sprite really could be an enormous help.

Mo Lan and the others all looked at Sylph with envy.

    But it was understandable.

Everyone knew how much Bi’er yearned for the outside world—every year at the start of term, she would appear in the fields on her own initiative to greet the young witches and ask to hear their stories.

But the Sprites had signed a contract with Witch Academy. Only by giving out a Sprite’s Blessing and acknowledging a witch as their master could they follow that master and leave.

So as long as one earned her approval, one could receive the Sprite’s Blessing.

Everyone had been approached by Bi’er, but only Sylph had persisted.

Mo Lan and Vasida knew best just how much time Sylph had spent on Bi’er.

Bi’er loved hearing about things that didn’t exist within the Academy. Every time Sylph finished a history class and heard a new story, she would rush to tell it to Bi’er.

She genuinely, purely loved Sprites as creatures.

Mo Lan suddenly realized that it seemed like a very long time since she’d heard any new students mention Sprites!

It seemed Bi’er had long since stopped seeking out young witches to chat with in the fields.

The younger witches probably didn’t even know the Academy had Sprites!

Bi’er must have decided long ago to follow Sylph.

No, she was still so envious!

Mo Lan felt herself turning sour enough to become a lemon.

A person blessed by a Sprite could gain a lifespan as long as that Sprite’s without paying any price at all.

And Sprites were a Race even longer-lived than Elves!

Not to mention, giving the Blessing also meant that Bi’er and Sylph had signed a magical familiar contract. From now on, Bi’er could accompany her as she grew, assisting her in all manner of plant cultivation!

Senior Lilith had spirited away the Vampire Vine, and Sylph had spirited away Bi’er.

Mo Lan had long since mastered Summoning Magic, yet to this day all she had to show for it—thanks to the senior witches—was a single Ally Summoning messenger spell for summoning golden bird messengers.

As for a magical familiar? Not a trace in sight!

When would she ever have an adorable, sweet little familiar of her own!

The more Mo Lan thought about it, the more she craved a familiar, until finally she came up with an idea.

She slowed her flying speed slightly and cast a spell on herself.

“Moira, what are you doing?” Vasida noticed her movements and slowed down a bit as well.

“I’m casting a confusion spell on myself! To increase my charm,” Mo Lan said.

“What good would that do?” Vasida asked.

“I’m hoping some cute little animal or plant will feel an instant connection with me and want to become my familiar,” Mo Lan said.

The Mind Magic confusion spell could not only alter other creatures’ impressions of oneself.

When cast on oneself, the targets affected were all creatures that came into contact with her. When cast on someone else, it could specifically alter that person’s impression of oneself.

“Would that actually work?” Vasida was tempted.

“Of course!” Mo Lan said. “First impressions can determine a lot of things.”
