Chapter 344 – Uninvited Guest
by spirapira“My luck absolutely exploded today — there’s no way I’ll draw anything good after this! I’ll use the rest of my magical power to write letters!”
Shana pulled out a thick stack of golden bird stationery and began writing.
“Mama Dayla! I spent just 1 Mana and drew an Intermediate spatial ring! Hahaha! Mama, has your Blessing Magic gotten rusty? How come you never drew a card this good?
Oh! I forgot — my dear Mama, little Moira said that for the sake of fairness in card drawing, the card pool drop rates are calculated entirely through mathematics, and even luck spells don’t work!”
“Olivia! Guess what card I drew today? You’ll never guess — it’s a {Spatial Ring Card}! Hahaha!
Me! At 39! I now own a spatial ring!”
“Gloria, I’ve already arrived in the Duchy of Lance. You mentioned in your last letter that you wanted me to bring you some specialty products from the Duchy of Lance — what was it again?
I drew a spatial ring from the card pool, and it has a hundred cubic meters of space! I can bring back a lot more specialties for you now.”
……
She wrote a huge pile of letters in one go, contacting every witch friend she had a magical seal connection with, grandly announcing the good news to all of them.
Only at the very end did she get to her dear daughter.
“Oh! Moira, my darling daughter, the lucky Elf suddenly smiled upon me today, and I accidentally drew a {Spatial Ring Card} worth 1 Red Gold Coin — 100,000 Gem Coins.
With just this one card, all the Gem Coins I’ve lost on card draws before have been earned back, with some to spare.
Your mama got rich in a single draw today! From now on, all my excess Mana will go to padding the card pool for you…”
Mo Lan had no idea that a card she’d casually given away had sent Mama Shana on a frenzied bombardment of her social circle. The golden birds near the Duchy of Iris were getting so many delivery orders they could barely keep up.
At this moment, she was locked in a staring contest with a group of monkeys that looked vaguely familiar yet strange.
After she had arranged the {Spatial Ring Card} and put the new spatial series cards up in the pool, she had started digging upward toward the surface.
The Rock-Crushing Spell didn’t work on soil, though, so she switched to the Earth-Turning Spell.
Although her Earth-Turning Spell was at a lower level, she wasn’t far from the surface at this point.
The digging speed was still quite fast.
But before long, she caught a faint scent of wine emanating from the soil.
At first, she thought she was just craving alcohol and imagining things.
But as she kept digging, she hit yellow jade, and that jade was exuding an incredibly rich wine fragrance.
This time, Mo Lan was certain she wasn’t mistaken.
She was puzzled — she had never heard of yellow jade that carried a wine fragrance!
She even used the Fortune-Telling Spell to divine the situation, and the result came back as minor fortune.
Only then did Mo Lan use a Rock-Crushing Spell to break through the yellow jade.
What followed was thick wine paste and rich wine liquid cascading down over her head.
She poked her head up from the middle of a fruit wine pool.
And came face to face with a golden-armed ape scooping wine at the pool’s edge and a white-furred great ape nearby directing a group of long-armed gibbons to drop large peaches into the pool.
The white-furred great ape and the long-armed gibbons were old acquaintances — they were the group from Tall Peach Tree Grove.
The golden-armed ape looked much smaller than the white-furred great ape, only about the same size as the long-armed gibbons, but it was a genuine Advanced magical beast.
It could instantly inflate its body and coat its arms with massive metallic elemental force, making them virtually indestructible.
Among Advanced magical beasts, its combat power was formidable indeed.
Now Mo Lan had become the uninvited guest who’d blundered into the golden-armed ape’s wine pool. And she had accidentally punched a hole through their jade brewing vat.
Though she had reacted quickly — the moment she realized something was wrong, she hurriedly plugged the tunnel she’d come through with crushed yellow jade to minimize the damage. Otherwise, the entire pool of wine paste and wine liquid would have drained down through the tunnel into the deep Underground.
But by now, she was completely exposed in the wine pool, locked in a staring contest with a bunch of monkeys.
Mo Lan wasn’t particularly afraid of this Advanced magical beast. Even if her magic level might not be quite enough to handle an Advanced magical beast, she still had her cards.
In a war of attrition, she wouldn’t necessarily lose.
And even if she couldn’t win, she could at least run away.
It was just that having punched a hole through someone’s wine pool made her feel rather embarrassed.
Seeing that the old golden-armed ape and the white-furred great ape before her had only frozen with wide, round eyes, their fists quietly clenching but not immediately attacking her —
Mo Lan immediately cast a confusion spell on herself with the Wand hidden in her sleeve, reducing the hostility the monkeys felt toward her. Then she used Heart Speech:
“Sorry, I dug in the wrong direction! I’ll compensate you for the lost wine liquid and wine paste!”
“Rude witch, how could you possibly compensate us!” the old ape barked angrily.
Mo Lan was startled — it wasn’t the translated meaning from Heart Speech; the ape had actually spoken in human language! She had long heard that ape-type magical beasts possessed extremely high intelligence, and sure enough, it was true! Moreover, he wasn’t speaking Witch language but Valen common tongue.
In a place full of young witches where everyone spoke Witch language, a monkey speaking in common tongue was quite remarkable indeed.
Surprised as she was, she didn’t forget the matter at hand.
“Don’t worry, I’ll definitely restore everything for you.”
She first climbed out of the wine pool, then transferred all the wine paste and fruit wine from the pool into her kitchen waste bin.
“What are you doing?” The golden-armed ape had been somewhat wary of the witch, but when he saw her make his entire pool of wine — paste and all — vanish, his eyes nearly split with rage. His body instantly began to inflate as he prepared to enter combat mode.
Mo Lan quickly said, “I came up through this wine — it’s been contaminated. I’m replacing it and making you a whole new pool!”
As she spoke, she swiftly used Stone Shaping to reshape and smooth the pool floor.
Just as the old golden-armed ape and the white-furred great ape were about to erupt and pummel her, with the long-armed gibbons shrieking in alarm, she summoned the Book of Cards and directly crafted an {Ape Wine Paste Card} and an {Ape Fruit Wine Card}, filling the pool back up.
The reference material was the wine paste and fruit wine that had just splashed all over her, so it was a perfect one-to-one recreation.
Looking at the pool of wine — now even slightly fuller than before — the old golden-armed ape stood there with muscles bulging, his massive fist wreathed in metallic elemental force hovering in midair, looking rather awkward.
The white-furred great ape beside him hurriedly put his hands behind his back and shooed away the chattering, shrieking long-armed gibbons.
“Consider this an apology gift. Sorry for disturbing you all — I’ll be on my way now.”
As she spoke, Mo Lan materialized two bottles of Cat Carry Wine and floated them over to the golden-armed ape with the Levitation Spell.
She even “helpfully” popped the caps off.
Sure enough, the two apes sniffed the air, and then their eyes locked onto the wine bottles, unable to look away.
Mo Lan breathed a sigh of relief — it seemed this incident could be put behind them now.
She finally had time to use the Cleaning spell and properly clean the wine residue off herself.
She didn’t forget to down a bottle of sobering potion either.
The wine smell in this stone cave was far too strong — she was afraid that if she kept breathing it in, she’d get drunk.
