Chapter 360 – Defensive Application Techniques
by spirapiraThis was Mo Lan’s first attempt at using Teleportation to transport non-physical “force.”
None of the various magic books on Teleportation contained any precedent for transporting force, either.
While maintaining the Teleportation spell, Mo Lan could feel it was far more taxing than when she had teleported the Serpent Chicken Beast’s feather arrows. Before long, the spell collapsed.
Yet Mo Lan felt joy rather than worry.
Because she saw that on the outermost Iron Stone Monster at the teleportation endpoint, a few chips had crumbled off the rock shell it used as camouflage.
It wasn’t much, but clearly, teleporting “force” was viable!
The Teleportation spell hadn’t collapsed because the target was non-physical, but because the innermost Iron Stone Monster — which wasn’t the teleportation target — had squeezed the origin point, destroying the spell from the outside.
Teleportation was, after all, just teleportation. While the spatial power maintaining stability in the teleportation channel did possess some ability to resist external attacks when the channel was still open, that ability was clearly quite poor — far too easy to disrupt.
There was no way to improve Teleportation’s defensive capability either, but since she could now teleport non-physical “force,” she could simply use Teleportation to intercept ranged attacks from now on.
If “force” could be teleported, then magic attacks could very likely be teleported too.
In that case, Teleportation could serve perfectly as a defensive spell that simultaneously redirected damage back at the enemy.
As for melee attacks, she could just teleport herself away to dodge them.
There was no way to conduct further experiments on teleporting magic attacks using these Iron Stone Monsters, so Mo Lan simply put them out of their misery.
Iron Stone Monsters had high defense, their bodies as hard as iron and stone.
Fire, wood, water, light, dark, and lightning offensive magic — all useless against iron and stone — were equally useless against Iron Stone Monsters.
However, certain earth and metal support spells were surprisingly effective against them.
For example, the Rock-Crushing Spell, Purification spell, and Mining Magic.
The Rock-Crushing Spell could easily shatter the outer rock layer of an Iron Stone Monster, and then the Purification spell could extract certain metals from its body as impurities, directly damaging its physical structure.
Once their bodies were completely paralyzed, she could use Mining Magic to extract their magic crystals as easily as reaching into a pocket.
These Iron Stone Monster slaughtering techniques came from a senior Orange Witch who had contracted all the Iron Stone Monster ranch slaughtering operations across the entire Durin Dwarf Empire.
Mo Lan tried it, and sure enough, it worked beautifully.
Vast numbers of Iron Stone Monsters were reduced under her magic to metallic magical materials and earth-element magic crystals.
The metallic magical materials and earth-element magic crystals alone filled several Spatial Cards before they could all be stored.
She kept only one, using Psychic Magic’s Mind-Devouring technique to slowly eradicate its sentience bit by bit, then fed the entire Iron Stone Monster to the Book of Cards as material.
The large rocks in the rocky terrain suddenly decreased by more than half, and all that remained were genuine rocks.
Mo Lan looked at the small Iron Stone Monsters that had been hiding with their heads buried in piles of round stone “droppings,” and decided not to bother with them. She took Zhizhi and flew toward the other side of the rocky terrain.
Zhizhi was excitedly describing in monkey-speak the scene of Mo Lan waving her little stick and making the big stone monsters crash to the ground. She had already become Mo Lan’s little fan-monkey.
Mo Lan reached into her bag with an amused smile, stroking the chattering little monkey from head to toe.
“I still need to find a magical beast that can use magic attacks to test this. Once that’s done, I can summarize and record this discovery…”
Just as she was speaking, a raindrop landed on her face with a splat.
“It’s raining?”
Mo Lan hurriedly channeled mana into the wind-and-rain-protection runes on her broomstick, activating the protective shield.
On the other side of the rocky terrain lay a grassland rich in water resources, somewhat similar to Emerald Creek Plains. In places like this, flying magical beasts tended to be slightly more numerous.
Mo Lan first landed on a hillside, took out her Tent Card, set up the tent, and arranged her magic circles.
“Let’s wait until this rain stops before we continue!”
“Zhee!”
“It’s a shame I couldn’t find a magical beast with ranged magic attacks to test Teleportation on,” Mo Lan sighed.
Otherwise, she could have finished her final magic experiment while sheltering from the rain.
“Zhee zhee zhee!” Me, me, me!
Zhizhi patted her belt. “Biu~ biu~ biu~ pilipala~”
“Oh right! The Electric Net in your belt counts as ranged attack magic too!” Mo Lan’s eyes lit up. She went to roll up the tent window and stood by it. “Come on! Zhizhi, try firing an Electric Net at me! A small one — this is just a test.”
Zhizhi pressed the purple magic crystal activation button.
A tiny electric net flew out of the belt accompanied by Zhizhi’s “biu~,” shooting straight toward Mo Lan.
Midway, Mo Lan caught the electric net with Teleportation and redirected it to the grass outside the tent.
“It really works!” Mo Lan’s heart settled with certainty. She ran to her study and used the Transcription Spell to quickly organize her findings into a volume titlederta《Defensive Application Techniques for Teleportation》.
“Headmistress! Please take a look and see if this book can be added to the Witch Council and Academy Libraries!”
No. 69 Amisha had been waiting for this moment ever since Mo Lan had begun her Teleportation experiments.
She directly opened a teleportation gate, came through, and took the materials.
“It’ll definitely be accepted into the collection. The value shouldn’t be low either — just wait for the Witch Council’s discussion results!”
“Safe travels, Headmistress!” The prospect of adding another work of her own to the Witch Council Library made Mo Lan absolutely thrilled.
She had read so many books, and every time she saw a senior witch’s name on the inner pages, she couldn’t help but look twice.
Just thinking about how someday a young witch would hold a book she had written and read it carefully filled her with an incredible sense of accomplishment.
This time it wasn’t copied from Earth — it was a magic book she had genuinely summarized herself, one that truly represented her magical ability!
After the Headmistress left, Mo Lan looked out the window. “Why hasn’t this rain stopped yet!”
It seemed she wouldn’t be able to set off for a while, so she took out the several Spatial Cards containing the metallic magical materials from the Iron Stone Monsters and began processing the materials.
An Iron Stone Monster’s body was layered. The outermost layer was a shell of ordinary rock used for camouflage, followed inward by magical iron and magical copper.
A small number of Iron Stone Monsters even had a piece of magical silver in their innermost layer.
At the very center was the magic crystal.
There was no flesh or organs — magical ores and magic crystals were the Iron Stone Monster’s flesh and organs.
Now it had all fallen into Mo Lan’s lap. After sorting and organizing everything, her stockpile of magical materials had become quite impressive.
She could now try her hand at making many alchemical items.
Since there was no rush to leave, she decided to practice Alchemy Magic right here.
She was even planning to advance her Alchemy Magic to the Advanced level before graduation, and give both her broomstick and wand a complete makeover!
While she worked on her alchemy, Zhizhi entertained herself in the living room — watching videos on the tablet projector, or drinking and sleeping — never coming to disturb her.
When she got really bored, she would run outside for a bit and then come back.
Occasionally, Mo Lan would even summon the white-haired giant ape to keep her company.
