Chapter Index

“I’ve already signed — do whatever you want!”

Jenna had already picked up the quill pen that Greta had casually set on the table, written her name on the invitation, and was now holding the trial card in her hand.

“Me too.” Fira finished her last stroke and passed the pen to Mayne beside her.

“???” Yurian was the one who panicked instead. “Greta, do you have another pen?”

    “…” Greta shook her head.

Fortunately, there were only five people total, and writing a name didn’t take long.

In the blink of an eye, all five had signed their invitations.

When the invitations in their hands transformed into Dawn Society Trial Cards, they began to believe that this society wasn’t some hollow organization set up by fraudsters who might not even be as capable as them.

Magical items like these weren’t something just anyone could create.

There probably wasn’t a single alchemist mage in the entire Lance Mage Tower who could craft such magical items.

Why would a noble alchemist mage bother scamming a few lowly apprentices?

“Trial Task One: Read the 《Dawn Society Resource Catalog》, 《Dawn Society Mission Statement》, and 《Dawn Society Confidentiality Regulations》, then pass the exam to become an official trial member of the Dawn Society. Passing the exam rewards a one-time redemption for assorted flavors of Food Card — Instant Noodles?”

Jenna read out the trial task. “Instant noodles — Greta, is that the kind of noodles you just ate?”

Greta nodded while leaning over to look. “Your task reward is instant noodles?”

How come hers had been Magic Card — Remove Death Force, Item Card — Compass, Food Card — Black Bread, and Food Card — Drinking Water?

“It’s only a redemption right though…” Greta mused, then asked the others. “What are your rewards for Trial Task One?”

“Mine is gold coins… Magic Gold Coins!” Yurian said, his voice trembling.

“A good score on the exam grants a one-time redemption for Item Card — Magic Gold Coin.

I’ve been working for years and I still don’t have a single Magic Gold Coin.

Theoretically, a hundred ordinary gold coins can be exchanged for one Magic Gold Coin, but in practice, even a hundred and twenty ordinary gold coins might not be enough to get one!

And the techniques for transcribing scrolls can only be bought with Magic Gold Coins… This… this Dawn Society — they really aren’t scammers, are they?!”

“They’re not scammers!” Greta said. “I’ve already passed the trials and become an official member. Every reward they promised me, they delivered. It’s just that everyone’s trial rewards seem to be different — they might be based on what each person wants most at the time.”

Hearing this, Yurian looked at Trial Task Two and immediately cried out in astonishment. “Find suitable spellcasters and present them with a Dawn Society Invitation. It counts as a success when the other party accepts. Successfully invite ten spellcasters within three months to pass the trial early, become an official member of the Society, and receive a one-time redemption for Knowledge Card —《Transcribing Magic Scrolls》!”

Right now, he only hoped that what Greta said was true — that as long as he completed the tasks, these rewards would really be his!

If he learned how to transcribe magic scrolls, he could earn even more on the side, then save up to buy more spell structures!

Jenna, who had just been thinking of nothing but that bowl of noodle soup, was deeply vexed. “If I’d known, I would have been thinking about rare magical resources instead!”

“Don’t worry. The trial rewards can all be obtained through other means once you become official members. Take a look at the 《Dawn Society Resource Catalog》 from Trial Task One and you’ll see — the Dawn Society’s reserves are beyond anything we could imagine!” Greta said.

More than that, though, she was curious. “Don’t you have any locked trial tasks? Just these two?”

“That’s it!” Jenna said. “Was it different for you?”

Greta shook her head. “Perhaps it was because my circumstances were different at the time.”

Yurian and Jenna had fewer tasks than she’d had, but the difficulty was considerably higher. If her trial tasks had been like theirs, she probably wouldn’t have been able to complete them at all, much less make it to Lance City.

“At least we don’t have to worry about the Dawn Society being a scam organization anymore,” Mayne said. “I don’t think any scam organization would just ask us to read some materials and take an exam before giving us rewards.”

“And no scam organization would bother writing a mission statement for itself!” Fira added.

“Greta, is the exam hard?” Rachel was already thinking about how to complete Trial Task One as perfectly as possible.

Her Trial Task One had tiered levels, with corresponding rewards issued based on her score.

“If you read the materials carefully, you should all be fine,” Greta said. “And you have plenty of time, so don’t rush.”

Accepting the invitation was only the first step. Only when all of them passed the trials and became official members would she receive her contribution points.

Five mage apprentices meant five contribution points.

From Mr. Aramir, that would be at least ten contribution points.

Enough for her to become a Level 2 Night Mist Apprentice.

Yurian, Jenna, and the others left Greta’s room and went back to study the materials the Dawn Society had given them.

That night, up in the attic of the Gold Globe Flower Inn, the lamps in several small partitioned rooms stayed lit the entire night.

Only when it was nearly time for work did the apprentices finally meditate for a bit, rousing their spirits before heading off to their shifts.

But even while working, their minds kept drifting back to what they had read the night before.

They were even going to the washroom far more frequently than usual.

The contents of the 《Dawn Society Resource Catalog》 had ignited their hope for the future.

While her colleagues slacked off at work, Greta was exceptionally diligent today. She needed to perform well, try to befriend a few more mages, and invite them to join the Society!

She was still a long way from reaching Night Observer!

In the dining room of Number 21, Apprentice Lane.

The four Sorceresses, in the middle of their meal, pulled out their Dawn Society Management Cards to check on the new members’ progress.

Then: “Greta’s already invited five mage apprentices, and they’re in the middle of their trials?”

Last night, after watching Greta accept the invitation and become an official member, they had gone off to attend to their own business without worry.

Yet after just one night, the number next to “Members in Trial” had gone from “1” to “6.”

All five of the new additions had been invited by Greta.

“Jenna… I think I’ve seen someone called by that name at the Gold Globe Flower Inn’s restaurant. She’s probably one of Greta’s coworkers,” Lilith said.

“As expected of the first human we chose as a contract holder — her ability to recruit is quite impressive!” Mo Lan said with satisfaction.

She had a feeling that her permanent Mana was about to experience explosive growth.

The Duchy of Lance alone had nearly thirty thousand mage apprentices!

As long as five hundred people became official members, her Mana level could immediately surpass Peak level!
