Chapter Index

Clara obtained twelve {Fragment Cards – Green Phantom Fruit}.

In her godmother’s office, following the instructions on the cards, she synthesized the twelve fragment cards into a single {Material Card – Green Phantom Fruit}.

Then she used the card, and a fresh Green Phantom Fruit, as if just picked, appeared in her hand.

    “Godmother! It’s actually real!”

The last time Clara had seen a Green Phantom Fruit was at the auction in the Imperial Academy city. The magical energy of this Green Phantom Fruit was identical to the one she had seen back then.

“Try it! I’ll bless you with Magic!” Dayla encouraged.

    Clara nodded firmly.

Ever since advancing to Peak level, she had clearly felt that meditation was becoming less and less effective at training her psychic power.

She was already fifty years old this year. Humans only lived for a hundred years, and lifespan did not increase with one’s Magic level. To break through the racial lifespan limit, one had to reach Beyond Peak level and go to the Well of the Sky.

The older one got, the worse meditation’s effects became. If she didn’t find some other method, she would barely manage to advance to Beyond Peak level mage before her lifespan ran out — if she managed it at all.

The Green Phantom Fruit could stimulate the activity of psychic power, awakening more dormant psychic power into an active state. For her, it was an invaluable treasure that could accelerate the accumulation of psychic power.

After confirming that this truly was an unprocessed Green Phantom Fruit, she couldn’t hold back any longer.

She ate the Green Phantom Fruit and immediately began meditating.

She could clearly feel that deep within her soul, quite a bit of the sluggish psychic power had been stimulated into greater activity.

She hurried to meditate and consolidate the gains.

It had been a long time since she’d felt meditation be this efficient.

After finishing her meditation, Clara could feel the progress she’d made this session, and a sense of reverence for the Dawn Society rose within her. “The Dawn Society really delivers on its promises!”

The Green Phantom Fruit she had emptied her savings trying to win at the auction — and still failed to obtain — had just ended up in her stomach this easily.

Thinking of certain magical resources listed in the 《Dawn Society Resource Catalog》, if all of those could be redeemed as well, even Clara, with an entire duchy backing her, felt her heart stir.

After all, some resources simply couldn’t be bought with money.

Even Magic Gold Coins were the same.

As a Grand Duke, her thoughts went further — if these resources could be used by the mages in her duchy, then the duchy’s strength would certainly rise to new heights.

“If the Dawn Society truly only requires a one-time payment of magical energy, then I’ll send an invitation letter to every mage in the country.”

Clara no longer cared which race was behind the Dawn Society.

Regardless of which race it was, as long as it was genuinely useful and genuinely bore no ill will, that was enough.

Raised under Dayla’s guidance, her views were more open-minded. She harbored little hostility toward other races — the only ones she despised were the Yala Empire, who were still deceiving their own people to this day.

“A 《Prerequisite Contract》?” Clara was momentarily stunned. “Another secrecy contract! It seems the Dawn Society really doesn’t want to reveal its origins!”

Dayla turned her back to avoid Clara being judged in violation of the contract, and simply said, “Someone who possesses this much wealth not wanting to expose themselves — that’s perfectly normal, isn’t it?”

Clara nodded. A secrecy contract was nothing she was afraid to sign.

After signing the 《Prerequisite Contract》, the 《Dawn Society Membership Contract》 finally appeared.

There was nothing wrong with the contract’s contents. Even exchanging permanent active psychic power equivalent to 6 Mana worth of Mana for the right to use the special Magic “Dawn Society” didn’t seem like much to Clara.

Beyond Peak level powerhouses were quite fond of using permanent active psychic power as payment in exchange for exclusive magical knowledge obtained from the Well of the Sky — this was no secret.

In 《History of Magic》, quite a few lost spells had once been the exclusive magical knowledge of some Beyond Peak level powerhouse, and with that powerhouse’s demise, had vanished without a trace from Valen.

The Heritage faction mages in the Imperial Mage Council frequently used these lost spells as justification, demanding that mages leave a copy of their exclusive magical knowledge at the Imperial Magic Academy so that the knowledge could be passed down.

However, mages who possessed exclusive magical knowledge were no longer under the Imperial Mage Council’s control, so this had never been truly enforced.

But as for the name written in that unfamiliar language — Clara would certainly not make the same mistake as Greta and assume it was Draconic.

Witch language and Draconic — though humans could learn neither and read neither, anyone who had actually encountered both languages could easily tell them apart.

This was Witch language. Clara was absolutely certain.

    She glanced at her godmother.

If her godmother knew, she would surely be shocked!

The Dawn Society was the work of Witches! Truly worthy of the outstanding race that evolved from human female bloodlines!

Unfortunately, she had signed the 《Prerequisite Contract》, so she couldn’t discuss this with anyone who wasn’t a Dawn Society member.

The moment she saw the Witch language, Clara lost all reservations and doubts about the Dawn Society.

Back when the three great Sorceresses had bombarded the various major races, the power they displayed was absolutely sufficient to dominate all of Valen and bring every race to its knees.

But they hadn’t done that. They had merely claimed the Wilds — the uninhabited land south of the Mainland where no intelligent races dwelled — and designated it as Witch territory.

In all the years since, the Witch race had never once waged war against any other race in the name of their people.

If it had been humans, Angels, Demons, Dragons, or any other race on the Mainland that possessed such power, none of them would have let the others off so easily.

Even the Elves — who had always secluded themselves in forests and were not inclined toward conflict — were no exception. When the Elves first descended upon Valen, countless humans had been targeted by them for felling trees and clearing farmland. It was only the later arrival of the Angels, Demons, and Dragons that forced them to retreat into the forests.

No race possessed the tolerance of the Witches.

And this was after they had once been persecuted by other races.

This was why Clara liked and trusted the Witches.

Witches never repaid kindness with malice. Being friends with Witches meant never having to worry about betrayal.

Clara had once even skipped the exclusive magical knowledge auction for Beyond Peak level mages organized by the Imperial Magic Academy, and instead begged her godmother to obtain the Sorceress Magic contract books of the Book Witch and the Sorceress for her!

The only pity was that the Fireworks Witch’s 《Fireworks Magic》 was not sold to anyone outside of Witches.

The Witches’ Dawn Society possessed so many resources she needed — Clara thought to herself, she had no reason to refuse.

Clara put pen to the contract and wrote her name.

It was only 6 Mana worth of permanent active psychic power — what she had gained from meditating under the effects of that single Green Phantom Fruit just now already exceeded that amount.

This time, there was no doubt whatsoever in her heart — only anticipation for the items on the Dawn Society’s resource catalog.

She didn’t forget to tell Dayla, “Godmother! Hurry and read through the Society’s materials and complete Trial Task One — you’ll never guess where the Dawn Society comes from!”
