Chapter 519 – Green Phantom Hotel
by spirapiraVasida drove the carriage to the hotel’s parking shed.
Lilith was the first to step down, negotiating with the parking shed attendant.
Upon hearing the manager mention that the hotel offered deep cleaning and scented lacquer maintenance services for carriages, she immediately turned to Mo Lan for approval: “Instructor, should we have the carriage cleaned and maintained?”
Mo Lan nodded.
They couldn’t very well use a Witch’s Cleaning spell on the carriage right now, so they could only rely on manual cleaning and maintenance.
After handing the carriage over to the manager, Mo Lan and the others practically couldn’t wait to leave the parking shed.
Not a single carriage in the Inner City had escaped being baptized by the filthy chaos of the Outer City. Although they were all rinsed off when entering the Inner City, the memory still triggered unpleasant associations.
Even the fragrant-smelling parking shed made one suspect it might be masking something.
Only after entering the hotel did they breathe a slight sigh of relief.
It was worthy of being a hotel named after the precious Green Phantom Fruit — the hotel lobby was exceptionally grand and imposing, making one feel as though they had arrived at a palace.
The spacious interior lifted everyone’s spirits somewhat.
But when it came time to book a room, things turned unpleasant.
“What? A small suite costs 100 gold coins per night?” Lilith’s voice rose a pitch. “That expensive? You might as well rob us!”
Having traveled all the way from Green Forest Town to Lance City, and then from Lance City to here, they had a reasonable understanding of human hotel prices.
The mage apprentice manning the front desk was practically rolling his eyes to the back of his head, wishing he could usher these penny-pinching guests out the door before they dirtied the hotel’s meticulously polished floor tiles.
But the dazzling advanced mage badge on Mo Lan’s mage robes kept him from acting rashly. He offered an awkward smile and said: “Our Green Phantom Hotel is the most upscale establishment in all of Green City. The décor is luxurious and the service impeccable — it’s absolutely worth the price. Noble mages are all regular guests here. How about this: if you book one small suite, I’ll take it upon myself to include complimentary meal vouchers. You can enjoy the daily set menu for four at the first-floor restaurant, free of charge.”
“For as many days as we stay?” Vasida asked. After she finished, Sylph and Lilith also fixed their gazes on the attendant named Park, looking very much like they wouldn’t let it go if the answer was no.
Whether it was Mana or gold coins, their desire to hoard was now overwhelmingly strong. They didn’t even need to act — Park felt the pressure deeply.
“Free meals for every day you stay… that’s a perk reserved for our most distinguished VIP guests. But of course, this esteemed advanced mage deserves nothing less. May I have the honor of knowing your name…”
Park’s gaze passed over the three aggressive, penny-pinching apprentices and landed on the Instructor standing behind them.
“Mo Lan,” Mo Lan said in Mage Empire language.
“Lady Moira! Welcome to our hotel!” Park said eagerly.
If he could have had an advanced mage as his Instructor, would he still be stuck here dealing with all sorts of riffraff?
Lilith opened the money chest and counted out a hundred gold coins for Park. “One night for now — we’ll extend depending on the situation!”
The magic carriage was already undergoing deep cleaning and scented lacquer maintenance in the parking shed. No matter how expensive it was, they couldn’t leave now. At least they could eat at the restaurant for free — the only question was whether the chef’s skills here matched the price.
Park stared at the chest brimming with gold coins, among which were quite a few Magic Gold Coins, and fell into a deep silence.
So that was it — an advanced mage’s apprentices couldn’t possibly be that poor! They weren’t poor at all, just stingy!
Once inside the small suite, Lilith, Vasida, and Sylph went to inspect the doors, windows, and the room’s interior. After confirming there were no issues, they pushed all the furniture to one side and set up a tent.
Only after entering the tent, where sound wouldn’t carry outside, did they feel comfortable talking.
“This hotel is luxurious, sure, but it’s way too expensive. We need to hurry and hold the experience-sharing seminar, then leave as soon as possible!” Lilith said.
Vasida and Sylph shared the same sentiment.
“In a bit, let’s go check out the hotel restaurant. There are bound to be plenty of mages there. If the conditions are right, we’ll use Mo Lan’s identity as an advanced mage to negotiate and put up promotional posters for the experience-sharing seminar in the restaurant,” Vasida said.
“This hotel has quite a lot of interior space. We could even hold the experience-sharing seminar right here in the hotel,” Sylph said.
Lilith nodded. “I already took the opportunity to flash our wealth just now. When we distribute the Dawn Society Trial Invitations after the seminar, we can tell them that we earned our money through the Dawn Society in Lance City. That way, people will definitely want to give it a try.”
“Once someone tries it, it’s only a matter of time before the Dawn Society spreads throughout Green City,” Vasida said.
…
The three of them were deep in heated discussion, and Mo Lan found she couldn’t get a word in edgewise.
When they finished their discussion and were preparing to go scout out other areas of the hotel, Mo Lan finally couldn’t help but ask: “What about me?”
“A distinguished advanced mage certainly can’t be seen running around handling these trivial matters! We apprentices will take care of it. We’ll bring lunch back for you later!” Lilith said.
“Exactly! You carry important responsibilities now. Leave these small tasks to us!” Vasida and Sylph chimed in.
The three of them left the room together, leaving Mo Lan alone.
Mo Lan shook her head with an amused smile, summoned the Book of Cards, and began preparing the cards she needed to send to the Witches.
One Card Magic Contract card in Witch language, one Dawn Society Promotional Guidance Plan in Witch language, and one Dawn Society Trial Invitation card in the common tongue — all completed and sent to Madam Amisha’s card album.
Before long, Madam Amisha sent her a message.
【Amisha: All letters have been sent.】
【Mo Lan: Received!】
【Amisha: Have you gotten in touch with Lady Carmela?】
【Mo Lan: No. Carmela might be unavailable at the moment. I’ll try again tomorrow.】
【Amisha: Alright. Let me know if there’s anything I can help with.】
…
Not long after finishing her chat with Madam Amisha, Lilith and the others returned.
A large bundle was plopped onto the table.
“Instructor! The experience-sharing seminar is all set — tomorrow night at eleven o’clock in the hotel restaurant! Fifty people have already signed up. Here are the entrance fees. I spent two Magic Gold Coins to rent the late-night time slot from the restaurant manager.”
“That fast?” Mo Lan asked in surprise.
“The hotel restaurant is huge, and there’s even a small stage with ongoing performances. We took your advanced mage badge up to the stage and announced that we were organizing an advanced mage experience-sharing seminar. Lots of mages wanted to attend!” Lilith said.
“I also sold the guest room manager a front-row seat at the seminar. Our room is now covered through tomorrow night. Once the seminar is over, we leave — no need to pay for a second night!” Vasida said.
