Chapter 625 – Witches Are Not Weak
by spirapiraEven Mo Lan, the “Culinary Witch” who had only stayed on Delicacy Island for a month, was contacted by dragons from her friends list — to say nothing of other witches who actually knew dragons.
The new messages on Vasida’s Communication Card hadn’t stopped coming in.
Mo Lan looked on and could only count her blessings: “Thank goodness the Communication Cards I use for hiding my identity and interacting with other races outside are all alt accounts!”
The Communication Card she’d used on Delicacy Island had long since been tossed aside with new message notifications muted.
“Moira, Krotack is asking me whether the ‘Moira’ in Mo Lan’s Dragon Cookbook is the same ‘Moira’ as Card Sorceress Moira,” Vasida suddenly said.
“Tell him the truth!” Mo Lan said. “I can pretty much strut around Valen sideways at this point anyway.”
Vasida nodded and looked down to reply to the message.
“Moira, he’s asking whether the witch-exclusive version of the Card Shop has more gourmet cards that aren’t available in the Dawn Society Card Shop.”
“Um…” Of course there weren’t any.
Even magical cuisine had no real strategic significance, so the gourmet cards were synchronized on both sides.
But after thinking it over, Mo Lan still said, “Just tell him yes!”
At worst, she could just develop some specialty dishes and list them exclusively in the witch version of the Card Shop.
“He says he’s willing to suppress his power level to match ours and challenge us!” Vasida said in surprise.
“I have no plans for that at the moment.” Mo Lan refused without hesitation. She was fairly confident in her combat instincts — after all, she had her memories from Earth! She had no desire for actual combat practice for now.
“I’ll accept! I want to try fighting him!” Vasida said. “Once Lady Carmela and the others return, I’ll go!”
“Some Elf friends have contacted me too, but they’re not into fighting — they want to compete with me in music and plant cultivation,” Sylph found this quite novel.
Even the three of them, Sorceresses whose social circles were far from extensive, had received challenge letters from afar — to say nothing of the other witches.
The witches at the Iron Stone Monster ranch in the Dwarven Kingdom were approached by their own clients — not to order magical metal materials harvested from Iron Stone Monsters, but to challenge them.
Outside the residences of witches in the Land of Chaos, the line of adventurers wanting to arrange duels was longer than the queues outside taverns and clinics.
In the homes of witches serving as godmothers in the Duchy of Lance, challenge letters fluttered in like snowflakes.
Even the witches beneath the sea were sought out by Merfolk and giant trolls.
The Beastmen Court quietly executed the old Prophet’s disciple, and the various tribes grandly invited nearby witches to participate in their warrior tournament, promising that the winning witch could pick one young Beastmanfrom the tribe to keep as her familiar.
The Beastmen Court’s territory had the most Summoning Witches, and no Summoning Witch could resist the temptation of a new familiar.
Across all of Valen, whether on the surface or in the Underground World, in every marketplace where Goblins and witches coexisted, the Goblins were doing their utmost to swindle the witches. After cheating them, they would even reveal exactly how they’d cheated, then issue a challenge letter to the enraged witch.
The witches who voluntarily patrolled the borders of the Wilds also encountered members of other races who stood just beyond the border calling out for a fair fight.
Even Amisha, stationed at the Forest Veil Ironthorne Tree Wall Barrier, received an invitation from a certain old Alchemy mage.
【Bradley: What level are you at now? Come out and fight!】
【Amisha: Thanks for the invite, but I’m busy!】
【Bradley: I heard the witch-exclusive Card Shop even has Star Marrow and Holy Silver. Buy a few cards for me, would you?】
【Amisha: Can’t proxy-buy even a single one!】
【Bradley: If that’s how it is, then maybe those witches at our Alchemy Branch…】
【Amisha: Do whatever you want. Just be careful your friendship rating doesn’t drop into the negatives.】
【Bradley: …】
Amisha muted his messages without hesitation, then burst out laughing. “Old geezer! Serves you right! Hmph!”
Although the witches found the direction things had developed somewhat unexpected, they all seized this opportunity to fight opponents from other races at equivalent power levels.
Witches, who spent their entire lives pursuing independence and freedom, had always walked the path of self-empowerment. Even under the protection of the Sorceresses, they had never slackened in improving themselves.
Opportunities for combat like this — even if they were life-or-death battles, the witches would not fear them, much less duels that wouldn’t cost anyone their life.
In the group chat that belonged to all witches, they popped up one after another.
【Amelia: Victory.】
【Grace: Victory.】
【Gurira: Victory.】
【Shana: Victory.】
【Alba: Victory.】
【Cheryl: Victory.】
…
The members of other races who had challenged the witches suddenly realized that these witches — whom they had only regarded warily because of the Fireworks Witch’s powerful magical protection — were not the weaklings they had assumed.
Every witch’s magical prowess and survival ability left them in awe.
At the same power level, in fair combat without schemes or tricks, very few could defeat a witch.
Many began to reassess the witch race as a whole.
Their potential might not match that of supremely powerful races like Angels, Demons, and dragons, but it was certainly no less than that of natural spellcaster races like the Elves.
And their spirits were stronger than every other race in Valen — only the Sorceresses, who were themselves born from witches, could compare.
“Perhaps the emergence of the Sorceresses merely accelerated the pace of the witches’ rise.” This statement quickly spread like wildfire across all of Valen.
Mo Lan, who had been quietly monitoring public opinion among Valen’s spellcaster community through Dawn Society member chat logs, let out a soft sigh of relief:
“If things keep going this way, even if one day all the Sorceresses are gone, the other races won’t gang up and come storming into the Wilds, right?”
The witches themselves were not weak.
In the past, being persecuted by the Churches of the Angels and Demons, being captured by mages for experiments — all of that happened only because the witches were still figuring out the magical abilities of their bloodline.
Now, the witches’ magical system had long since matured.
Even without the Sorceresses, the number of Beyond Peak level witches was no fewer than those of any other race in Valen.
The crisis of the Witch’s Wilds was, at this point, truly and fully resolved.
Across all of Valen, the only race Mo Lan still couldn’t feel at ease about was the Demons.
After the friendship rating system went live, when friendship scores were assessed, no other race — whether as individuals or as a group — started with a friendship rating of -100.
But the Demon race sat firmly at the bottom of the racial friendship ranking, with a racial friendship rating of “-100.”
Achieving a racial friendship rating of “-100” was far more difficult than an individual friendship rating of “-100.”
This meant that over ninety percent of all Demon Dawn Society members had individual friendship ratings of -100, and the remaining members also had negative ratings — not a single exception.
An entire race of villains — that was all there was to it.
The consequence of a racial friendship rating of “-100” was that all Demon members were stripped of their Dawn Society membership, and lost their qualification to use cards as well.
