Chapter Index

As Mo Lan channeled her Mana into it, milky-white mist began to churn inside the transparent crystal ball.

The mist swirled and coiled as if alive. After roughly half a quarter-hour, it gradually coalesced into a clear human silhouette—a young Witch who looked very lively, with dark green curls carefully braided into two pretty little plaits, and azure eyes as pure as the finest gemstones.

Vasida’s eyes went wide, her gaze darting back and forth between the crystal ball and the crib.

She clamped a hand tightly over her mouth, afraid of disturbing Mo Lan’s Divination Magic, but a storm was already raging in her heart: “It’s Flora, all grown up!”

The little bundle of flesh babbling away in the crib would actually turn out so spirited!

Lilith’s attention, meanwhile, was firmly captured by the ancient book floating before the girl.

That large tome radiating a faint magical glow was none other than the 《Witch Clan Book》 avatar—something every Witch knew all too well.

In the vision, Flora placed her palm solemnly against the book’s pages. Before long, a yellowed piece of Parchment leaped lightly from between the pages—this was the scene of the talent test during the Witch Academy entrance ceremony.

Everyone present was well familiar with this process; it was exactly how their own talent tests had been conducted at their entrance ceremonies!

“Did it succeed?” Sylph’s heart sank.

According to Mo Lan’s earlier reasoning, the fact that the divination could produce a clear vision at all likely meant Flora was not a Sorceress.

Mo Lan maintained an outward air of composure, but inwardly she was just as turbulent.

Still, she kept her Divination Magic steady without letting her emotions show. What if this happened to be a lucky exception? Until she had a definitive result, she would not give up.

Mo Lan’s gaze locked onto the Parchment in the girl’s hands as she silently repeated to herself: “Let me see the test results! Let me see the test results!”

As if sensing her determination, the viewing angle within the crystal ball began to shift subtly, gradually rotating to behind Flora.

At last, the contents of that decisive Parchment appeared one by one in the divination’s vision.

    【Flora】

    【Age: 13】

    【Necromancy Magic Aptitude: Unlimited】

    ……

(Aptitude caps, from lowest to highest: Apprentice, Low, Intermediate, Advanced, Peak, Beyond Peak, Unlimited)

The unbroken string of “Unlimited” ratings filled Mo Lan with elation, causing a slight fluctuation in her Mana. The divination’s image quickly began to blur.

Her heart clenched and she hurried to steady her emotions. Fortunately, she reacted quickly enough—the divination wasn’t interrupted, and the image in the crystal ball sharpened once more.

【All-Element Magic aptitude Unlimited. Matches Sorceress characteristics. Confirmed as Sorceress.】

“Wonderful!” Sylph couldn’t help letting out a quiet cheer, her emerald eyes brimming with joy.

Vasida threw her arms around Lilith in excitement.

Only Mo Lan, still staring at the Parchment, had her expression suddenly freeze.

The test information recorded on the Parchment had taken an unexpected turn.

    【Mana test in progress】

    【Test failed】

    【Manifested Gift summoning in progress】

    【Summoning failed】

“How can she have unlimited aptitude in all magic types but possess neither Mana nor a Manifested Gift?”

The joy in Mo Lan’s heart evaporated completely, and she nearly lost control of the Divination Magic.

It wasn’t until she saw the final lines of text that the tension in her chest eased slightly.

【No Mana detected. No Manifested Gift detected. Does not match first-generation Sorceress characteristics.】

【Magical power fluctuations detected. Initiating magical power test.】

    【Magical power test in progress】

    【Test successful】

    【Magical power: 488 Mana】

【All-Element Magic aptitude Unlimited. Initial magical power exceeds 100 Mana. Matches second-generation Sorceress characteristics. Confirmed as second-generation Sorceress.】

Only after the last line of text appeared on the Parchment did Mo Lan end the divination. She then used the divination crystal ball’s replay function, setting it to loop the portion of the vision that displayed the Parchment’s contents.

After their initial excitement, Sylph, Vasida, and Lilith wanted to see what Flora’s Manifested Gift was. When they turned back to watch the crystal ball’s replayed vision, they finally noticed those alarming test anomalies.

In an instant, their mood plummeted as sharply as a broomstick suddenly spiraling out of control.

“How could the Mana test fail?” Vasida stared in confusion at the frozen image in the crystal ball, as if trying to wrench the answer from those words by sheer force of will.

Lilith’s brow furrowed deeply. “How can she have no Manifested Gift? Every Sorceress is supposed to have a unique Manifested Gift!”

Sylph stared at the words “does not match first-generation Sorceress characteristics,” her eyes flickering with shock and uncertainty. “What does ‘first-generation Sorceress’ mean?”

Instinctively, she turned to Mo Lan—the most knowledgeable among them—for answers. “Mo Lan, have you ever come across the term ‘first-generation Sorceress’?”

Mo Lan shook her head. She was certain she had never seen this term in any existing Witch texts. And yet, looking at these words, she felt an uncanny sense of “familiarity.”

“Hm? Why did it test for magical power too?” Vasida pointed at the text that appeared afterward, and Lilith’s and Sylph’s gazes were immediately drawn to the remaining content.

Lilith leaned closer to the crystal ball. “Her initial magical power is actually quite high! Over four hundred—much stronger than most young Witches!”

She tried to lighten the tense atmosphere with a breezy tone, but the tremor in her voice betrayed the unease in her heart.

“Second-generation Sorceress? What is that?” Sylph noticed the final line of text. “This is too strange. What on earth happens in the future?”

Mo Lan’s expression turned subtly complicated. That eerie sense of familiarity had returned. “Second-generation Sorceress”—she felt she knew this term as well…

But rummaging through every corner of her memory, she found absolutely nothing related to either term.

Not present anywhere in her memories, yet it felt familiar… What could it be?

Mo Lan racked her brain but couldn’t find an answer. She even began to wonder if something had gone wrong with her memory.

“Could the segment about the Abyss that I previously deleted from my memories have left behind some adverse effects? Has my memory become scrambled?”

She carefully reviewed her memories once more, only to grow more puzzled. “Everything seems perfectly coherent and normal!”

She shared her feelings with Sylph, Vasida, and Lilith, but none of them could offer an explanation either.

“Could it just be your imagination?” Vasida said. “When it comes to Sorceresses, how could there possibly be something the four of us don’t know about?”
