Chapter 650 – Impressive, Mo Lan!
by spirapira“All these years, you’ve worked so hard.”
Carmela gazed at the four young Sorceresses before her, a rare trace of tenderness surfacing in her golden eyes.
“The Artifact Spirit race’s concept of time is vastly different from ours. This time, Anita has entered slumber to receive her inheritance — it could last as briefly as several decades or as long as over a century. However, before she fell asleep, she specifically instructed us that we only need to place her within the defensive magic formation of the Wilds. The Firework Blasts there will continue to trigger automatically as they always have, continuing to guard this wilderness.
Traci and I have returned this time to stay in the Wilds for a while and study the art of life-forging that Anita risked her life to bring back.
With us here in the Wilds, there’s no need to fear incursions from other races. From now on, you can all go about your own affairs with peace of mind.”
Traci, who had been quietly leafing through the Omniscient Book nearby, slowly raised her head. Her silver-gray eyes shimmered with an all-perceiving light. “I believe the other races won’t be coming to attack again.”
Her fingertips still rested lightly on the faintly glowing pages. Just moments ago, through the Omniscient Book, she had already discerned all the upheavals that had swept through the world of Valen during this time.
The BeastmanProphet’s prophecy about Anita, the Demons’ machinations from the shadows, the Angels and Dragons’ cold indifference, the human empire’s restless ambitions — and then there was Mo Lan, who within the Dawn Society she had built over many years, had suddenly unveiled a “friendship system” that completely transformed the balance of power.
The very scenarios she and Carmela had feared most — Anita’s secret being exposed, the Wilds facing threats — had indeed come to pass.
But what astonished her was that these crises had been defused by Mo Lan with seemingly effortless ease.
A simple concept of “friendship” had bound every race in all of Valen to the Witches’ cause, and she had even used the opportunity to temper the abilities of Valen’s Witches.
Seeing that Carmela still looked puzzled, Traci gently pushed the Omniscient Book forward.
Its pages turned of their own accord without any wind, and countless characters shimmering with golden light leaped from the paper, wrapped in a stream of silver energy that flowed like a river of stars toward the space between Carmela’s brows.
Carmela was long accustomed to this. She composedly closed those pale golden eyes of hers and let Traci’s knowledge flow into her mind like a clear spring.
Moments later, when she opened her eyes again, they were brimming with incredulous amazement. “Impressive, Moira!”
Over a decade ago, Mo Lan had sworn with absolute conviction that she had a way to protect the Wilds.
But no one had imagined at the time that this newly-adult young Sorceress could resolve the Witch race’s millennia-old crisis in such an unexpected way.
Unlike Anita’s approach of military deterrence through overwhelming Firework Blasts, Mo Lan had chosen a gentler yet far more ingenious path.
Her “friendship system” was like an invisible net, weaving every spellcaster in all of Valen into a community of shared interests with the Witches.
Now, every spellcaster who relied on the Dawn Society’s cards had become one of the Witches’ most steadfast supporters.
In the past, the other races feared harming Witches because it would incur Anita’s wrath. Now, what they feared more was that harming Witches would get them expelled from the Dawn Society.
This shift from “coercion” to “incentive” was a masterful display of wisdom at its finest.
Carmela couldn’t help but think: when news of Anita’s peril had spread, only the Witch race had been heartsick with worry, while the other races had eyed the Wilds like hungry wolves.
But if one day Mo Lan were to face danger, every spellcaster in all of Valen would likely be shaken to their core — after all, given how widely the Dawn Society’s cards had spread throughout the spellcasting world, who would be willing to lose the magical treasure created by this Card Sorceress?
Looking at the young junior before her, Carmela’s golden eyes were filled with wonder.
She recalled how she, Traci, and Anita — the three of them at that same age — could only carefully conceal their identities and quietly accumulate power from the shadows.
Yet Mo Lan could already stand in the sunlight. Through her wisdom, she had bound her own safety and the safety of the Witch race to the interests of every spellcaster.
Being praised so highly by her seniors, Mo Lan tried her best to maintain composure, but the smile at the corners of her lips simply refused to be suppressed.
Her deep violet eyes danced with joyful light, and like a student receiving a teacher’s commendation, her pride was tinged with a touch of bashfulness.
These were the legendary Sorceresses she had idolized since birth!
As a child, the magic volume of the Mo Lan had read most often.
Back then, she had yearned with all her heart to become like her seniors — powerful Sorceresses who could turn the tide and protect an entire race.
Now, the very Sorceresses she had idolized were praising her.
She had finally become like them — a powerful Sorceress capable of turning the tide when her people faced crisis.
All those years of effort had been worth it!
Going forward, she would have to work even harder.
“In my previous life’s world, there was a warm custom,” Mo Lan said, her eyes sparkling with nostalgia as her hands gestured unconsciously. “When someone who’d been away returned home, their family would always prepare a grand welcome feast. Witches are a loving family too. Our seniors have been traveling all these years, and now that you’ve finally made it back, why not rest here for a while and try some of the food we’ve prepared?”
Afraid they might decline, she quickly added, “Besides, I’m planning to explore the Well of the Sky, and I’d really love to hear your advice!”
Lilith, Vasida, and Sylph immediately crowded in to help make their case, four pairs of bright, sparkling eyes gazing up at the two seniors like little animals waiting to be fed.
They had their own little calculations — nothing brings people closer together quite like sharing a good meal!
And besides, they had so many questions they wanted to ask their seniors.
Carmela and Traci exchanged a smile and agreed with barely a moment’s hesitation.
After all, the Wilds were safe now, and there was no rush to set up Anita’s Fireworks Wand.
Moreover, though they were well-traveled and experienced, they also knew how to enjoy life’s pleasures.
As seniors, offering guidance to the younger Sorceresses was simply part of their duty.
The moment the two seniors nodded, the four young Sorceresses sprang into action as if struck by a haste spell.
They carefully selected all manner of gourmet cards from the Card Shop, each one representing their favorite delicacies.
Sylph even brought out the mutant fruits she had painstakingly cultivated — fruits that emanated an irresistibly sweet fragrance.
As a large picnic blanket was spread across the grass, it was covered in the blink of an eye with a dazzling array of food.
Watching small cards transform into so many exquisite dishes, even the worldly Carmela and Traci couldn’t help but marvel at the convenience of these magic cards.
Carmela suddenly remembered something and pulled out a long-neglected Management Card – Carmela.
When she saw the accumulated Gem Coin figure displayed on the card’s face, those golden eyes that were always so calm and composed went perfectly round in an instant. “Good heavens! This… these earnings are absolutely staggering!”
