Chapter 658 – The Close Friend Invitation
by spirapiraAfter Mo Lan learned that arriving at the Well of the Sky didn’t mean immediately setting off to explore other worlds, and that she could rest at the Explorer’s Camp first, she had taken the opportunity to use the cross-world version of the Communication Card to contact Lilith, Vasida, and Sylph, recommending that they try answering the Well of the Sky’s summoning pull.
So Witch Camp sites 334, 335, and 336 belonged to the three of them respectively.
The remaining three sites likely belonged to Witch Explorers who had newly arrived at the Well of the Sky in recent years.
Mo Lan gently knocked on the door of the neighboring tent at site 335.
After two soft taps, the door cracked open slightly, and Vasida poked her head through.
The instant she saw who it was, her eyes lit up: “You’re finally here!”
Before she even finished speaking, a well-toned, powerful hand shot out and yanked Mo Lan into the tent.
Vasida’s tent still retained its original layout. The only change was a Spatial Tent placed near the entrance.
“Come in, quick! We’ve been ready and waiting for you this whole time!” Vasida eagerly pulled her inside the Spatial Tent.
The moment she stepped inside, a rich aroma hit her. At the long dining table, Lilith and Sylph were materializing cards one after another.
Hearing the commotion, both looked up simultaneously.
Lilith raised an eyebrow, her tone certain: “Moira, don’t tell me you read through every last piece of material available in the Otherworld Archives before you were willing to come out.”
“Not yet, actually.” Mo Lan shook her head with some regret. “Crafting Origin Mana Crystal Cards is far too costly. There are still some magic materials that require Origin Mana Crystals to unlock that I haven’t read.”
Lilith immediately tilted her chin triumphantly toward the other two: “See! I told you she’d insist on reading everything she could before coming out.”
“Moira, do you have any idea how many years have passed?” Vasida couldn’t help asking.
“How long has it been?”
In the brightly lit Otherworld Archives, Mo Lan had been completely immersed in the sea of books, deliberately ignoring the passage of time. This allowed her to study with single-minded focus, undisturbed by the march of time.
Sylph spread her hands in an exaggerated gesture: “Flora and Tiana graduated two years ago, and all three of us have reached Peak level across all our Witch Magic disciplines, my dear Lady Moira!”
“Twenty years?” Mo Lan widened her eyes in slight surprise.
“That’s right!” Lilith picked up the conversation. “If you’d come out any later, we might not have all been able to gather. We’ve already started preparing for otherworld exploration. Vasida even got an invitation from Lady Traci and is getting ready to set off for the Gourmet World.”
They had actually come to the Well of the Sky twenty years ago at Mo Lan’s suggestion, though at the time they had only transcribed portions of the books from the 《Essential Reading List for Well of the Sky Exploration》 to take back and study.
Back then, they had agreed through Communication Cards that Mo Lan would definitely notify everyone before departing for another world, so they could all get together.
No one had expected the wait to stretch to twenty years—so long that they had nearly put otherworld exploration on their own agendas.
Mo Lan was also taken aback by how quickly time had flown, but she didn’t regret it: “I couldn’t help it. With all those materials sitting right there, I just wouldn’t feel right until I’d read them all.”
“That’s so like you—still as relentless as ever!”
Vasida floated a steak over to herself and said while eating: “Besides the books on the 《Essential Reading List for Well of the Sky Exploration》, I only read the reference materials related to the ‘Guru Guru World’ I’m heading to next, and even that took me ages. I had to use Speed-Memorization Spell just to retain all the important information! If I tried to read everything like you, even a few hundred years might not be enough!”
“The Guru Guru World? Is that the world with the most flourishing culinary magic among all documented worlds?”
The benefits of extensive reading showed themselves immediately—information about the Guru Guru World surfaced in Mo Lan’s mind at once.
“Yes, yes, yes!” Vasida nodded repeatedly, saying with some excitement: “Lady Traci told me that in the Guru Guru World, there’s a rare magical beast called the Giant-Stomached Rainbow Whale! If you cook it using a special method, you can obtain the magic seed for the culinary magic ‘Rainbow Siphon.’ If I master this magic and combine it with my Devouring Stomach…”
She suddenly opened her mouth wide in an exaggerated swallowing motion. “I could swallow an enemy whole and digest them!”
Mo Lan couldn’t help but laugh: “If I recall correctly, the Giant-Stomached Rainbow Whale can swallow an entire island in one gulp. In the future, if anyone crosses you, you could swallow their whole home! That magic truly couldn’t be more suited to you.”
The Guru Guru World was a world brimming with all manner of rare and exotic ingredients, where anything and everything could end up on the dining table.
There, the entire population were spellcasters, because simply eating food was enough to gain culinary magical energy and culinary magic, increasing one’s strength.
A place like that was paradise for every food lover.
When Mo Lan had been reading about that world’s culinary materials, even she couldn’t help salivating profusely. That was the day she first visited the café inside the Archives.
There were actually quite a few culinary-type worlds documented in the Otherworld Archives, and the Guru Guru World was considered the cream of the crop among them.
It was just that: “If I remember correctly, the Guru Guru World’s world level is five levels higher than Valen’s, isn’t it?”
The universe classified worlds into different levels based on their magical tiers and danger levels. The higher a world’s level, the more powerful its creatures, the stronger its magic, and the more abundant its resources.
The Guru Guru World was a level-10 world, where the upper limit of magical energy a spellcaster could wield within the world was 999,999,999 Mana.
Valen, on the other hand, was only a level-5 world, where the upper limit of magical energy a spellcaster could wield was a mere 9,999 Mana.
“Higher level means higher rewards, but it also means higher risk.”
Mo Lan’s tone turned serious: “With your mana tier, among the Guru Guru World’s native spellcasters, you’d probably only rank in the upper-middle range. You absolutely must be careful about everything there!”
“Actually, Lady Traci suggested that I go to some of the lower-level gourmet worlds first to build up my strength before attempting it…”
Vasida said, looking a bit sheepish: “But the Guru Guru World invitation that Lady Traci gave me only has fifty years left before it expires. I’m worried that if I go to other worlds for quests, I’ll miss the deadline. Guru Guru World invitations are incredibly hard to come by, and this one is the most precious kind—an anonymous Realm-friend Invitation…”
“A Realm-friend Invitation!” Mo Lan understood a bit better why Vasida was willing to take this risk.
Realm-friend Invitations were the highest tier of invitation. Anonymous ones that could be transferred to others were even rarer.
Using this kind of invitation to enter the corresponding world meant you didn’t need to complete any world-assigned quests, had no restrictions on how long you could stay, and could choose to leave the world at any time.
Furthermore, it allowed you to randomly match with the most compatible recently deceased native intelligent being, inheriting their identity and their life memories—stripped of all emotions and sentiments.
