Chapter 670 – Dreamweaver World 8
by spirapiraA pale blue light screen projected from the watch face, flickering slightly before stabilizing.
Since it was an older model, even at maximum size the projected screen was only about as large as an open magazine. Pixels were faintly visible along the edges, and the clarity couldn’t compare to the latest communication watches.
Mo Lan quickly tested a few basic functions. The electrical grid connection was stable, the account system was working normally, and both the online shopping platform and the Dream Forum were functioning properly.
“Good enough if it works.” She tapped into the payment interface, scanned the shop owner’s account code on the counter, and transferred a thousand Federation coins.
Dream Fulfillment Community was a good seven or eight kilometers from the second-hand shop. She couldn’t use Super Speed, and she didn’t want to waste time walking back.
As for riding her broom while invisible — she’d had no choice before, but now that she was operating under “Sina’s” identity, she felt it was better to follow the behavioral rules that came with it.
Only by truly immersing herself in this world could she learn what was actually valuable here.
With a balance of 100 Federation coins, a single ride on the cheapest public flying vehicle cost only 0.5 Federation coins. She could certainly afford that.
Mo Lan headed toward a public flying vehicle stop on a nearby rooftop.
A light touch of her wrist against the sensor area, and the turnstile opened with a click.
The wind at the rooftop stop was a bit chilly, tousling the ponytail tied behind her head.
A handful of people stood scattered across the platform, their communication watches all flickering with colorful light, holographic screens projected before them.
The scene reminded Mo Lan of Earth. People on Earth always looked down at their phones while waiting for buses, but here in the Dreamweaver Federation, people held their hands in front of their chests, watching the screens projected from their communication watches.
Ten minutes later, a boxy, square-nosed flying vehicle arrived right on schedule.
Its body was painted in the Dreamweaver Federation’s blue-and-white stripes, with an electronic screen on the side scrolling route information.
Mo Lan confirmed the vehicle’s number — it would pass through Dream Fulfillment Community — and followed the crowd up the stairs. Bypassing the comfortable seats of the enclosed lower cabin, she headed straight for the open-air upper deck.
Mo Lan didn’t sit down. Instead, she stood at the railing near the front, her fingers resting lightly on the cold metal bar.
The slight sensation of weightlessness as the vehicle lifted off reminded her of riding an elevator. Once airborne, the comfort and stability weren’t much worse than her flying carpet.
The only downsides were that the public flying vehicle’s levitation system was rather noisy, and its speed was far inferior to the flying carpet’s.
The vehicle glided along its fixed route, skimming past rows of low-rise buildings.
Her gaze swept over several private flying vehicles of various designs. They looked much faster and more comfortable than the public one. Mo Lan mentally noted their features.
Before leaving the dream realm, she absolutely had to acquire a few different models of flying vehicles as reference materials.
She already had a broomstick, but this type of vehicle — one that relied entirely on tourmaline energy and could fly without a mage continuously channeling energy into it — could prove extremely useful in certain special worlds.
The worlds out there were endlessly varied. Worlds where a caster’s magical energy became uncontrollable upon leaving the body were not unheard of.
Fifteen minutes later, the flying vehicle came to a smooth stop at the Dream Fulfillment Community platform.
Mo Lan followed the chime prompts down the stairs and passed through the automatic sensor turnstile.
The platform connected directly to an elevated skybridge along the community’s perimeter. Through the reinforced glass floor, she could see the community’s main gate below.
She quickened her pace, swiped her wrist at the fixed gate-access robot at the community entrance, and a gap just wide enough for one person opened up.
She walked briskly toward Building 13, where a dedicated elevator outside the building went directly to each unit’s front door.
Once again, she pressed her wrist against the door lock scanner.
“Welcome home~” With the cold electronic voice of the digital lock, the door opened automatically.
Mo Lan stepped inside.
The apartment was small — a one-bedroom, one-living-room layout. The kitchen sink gleamed with a cold metallic luster, and the bathroom mirror was coated in a thin layer of dust.
There was no furniture in the apartment, making the already small space feel even emptier.
She locked the door behind her, pulled the blackout curtains shut, and the room plunged into darkness.
Summoning the Book of Cards, she browsed through the card collection. Soon, one softly glowing Furniture Card after another was drawn out.
As the furniture inside the cards materialized, pieces in the Dreamweaver World style gradually filled the room.
“Finally looks like a livable place.”
Mo Lan nodded with satisfaction, unzipped her backpack, and let Zhizhi out.
The little creature burst out excitedly, darting from room to room before finally stopping beside the dining room’s wine cabinet, gazing up at her with eager eyes.
Mo Lan smiled and took out a few bottles of wine for it, not forgetting to select several gourmet cards for herself and materialize them as well.
In an instant, a table full of steaming delicacies appeared on the dining table.
After a hearty meal, Mo Lan immediately activated the communication watch on her wrist.
A pale blue light screen projected before her, and she quickly logged into the Dreamweaver Federation’s network to research information about the dream realm.
Other Explorers who came to the Dreamweaver World focused most of their energy on hunting Dream-Eating Tapirs.
This was because anything discovered in the dream realm — whether magic or treasures — had to be converted to the real world using a Fruit of Materialization before it could be taken out of the Dreamweaver World as spoils.
Explorers who used the Key of Dreams provided by the Dreamweaver World to enter the dream realm generally only did so after hunting at least five Dream-Eating Tapirs and obtaining Fruits of Materialization.
Most of the time, it wasn’t even to explore the dream realm itself, but to find a material called “Dreamwood” within the dream realm.
The “Knowledge Infusion — Dream-Eating Tapir” had mentioned that “Dreamwood,” which was quite common in the dream realm, emitted a fragrance detectable only by Dream-Eating Tapirs when roasted with fire-element energy.
Explorers converted Dreamwood to the real world specifically to use it as bait to attract Dream-Eating Tapirs, enabling them to hunt the creatures in large numbers and reap the hunting rewards.
At most, they would also use the Dream Chronodisks awarded for every ten Dream-Eating Tapirs hunted to enter solo dream dungeon instances in the dream realm, taking advantage of the time dilation to practice their magic.
The Fruits of Materialization rewarded by the Dreamweaver World were inherently low-grade, only capable of converting ordinary magical materials of little use to Explorers, or magic with mediocre effects.
For the Explorers, the Well of the Sky contained so many other worlds where magic and magical materials could simply be taken upon acquisition — there was absolutely no need to stubbornly grind away at the Dreamweaver World’s dream realm.
This was why the Dreamweaver World dream realm materials she had previously seen in the Otherworld Archives were truly sparse and vague, mostly consisting of information about the Dreamweaver World’s real world instead.
Now she could finally obtain firsthand information. Nobody understood the dream realm better than the Dreamweaver World’s native humans.
The Dream Forum was a fully real-name-registered forum under Dreamweaver Federation oversight. It might not have the most information about the dream realm, but what it had was absolutely reliable.
Posting misleading or false information on the Dream Forum could result in being held accountable by the Federation.
Mo Lan opened the Dream Forum and began reading from the posts bearing the Dreamweaver Federation’s official verification seal. (End of Chapter)
