    Chapter 684 – Dreamweaver World 22

After lying back down in bed and falling asleep, Mo Lan’s first action upon entering the dream realm was to check the 《Professional Skill Book – White Cat Transfiguration》 in her mental sea.

The book was still floating there, completely intact.

This meant that the White Cat Transfiguration she had studied on her own in the real world was still far from reaching the standard level presented in the skill book.

Outside the window, the dream realm was still shrouded in night, pink moonlight filtering down through gaps in the leaves.

Mo Lan didn’t rush to go out. Instead, she sent her psychic power one by one into the 《Special Skill Book – Trailing Orchid Transformation》, the 《Special Skill Book – Shadow Cat Transformation》, and the 《Professional Skill Book – Titmouse Transfiguration》 floating in her mental sea.

Titmouse Transfiguration was manageable enough — she could create the corresponding card for it in the real world too.

But the Trailing Orchid Transformation and Shadow Cat Transformation had been learned directly after the tribal conversion ceremony. She hadn’t been able to present them to the Book of Cards as samples, so she could only study them here in the Dreamweaver World.

It was also a good opportunity to test whether there were any restrictions on learning knowledge from skill books in the dream realm.

Reading the knowledge within the skill books posed no problems at all. After reading, converting her own Mana into the power of animal transformation to cast spells also worked without issue.

Mo Lan could even use the corresponding skill books to personally experience the biological instincts of the trailing orchid, shadow cat, and titmouse forms. This was a hundred times more intuitive than simply practicing based on the knowledge in the skill books — even Earth civilization’s memory transfer technology couldn’t compare to this kind of immersive learning method.

While strolling through the village in shadow cat form, Mo Lan encountered several dream citizen children playing together.

These little ones all maintained partial transformation states — some had fluffy beast ears on their heads, others swished puffy tails, and one girl had several small flowers blooming among her hair.

It was then that Mo Lan realized that the dream citizens with the Beast Speaker profession also mastered their transformation methods step by step, following the sequence of “partial transformation — complete transformation — perfect transformation.”

They could clearly make skill books, so why didn’t they use them themselves?

Mo Lan’s curiosity was thoroughly piqued. She leaped lightly down from the treetop and silently approached the little girl with pink flowers blooming atop her head.

Her paw pads made not a single sound on the soft grass, and the girl didn’t notice the cat beside her until Mo Lan was standing right in front of her.

“Can you tell me why you don’t use skill books to learn Magic?” Mo Lan asked, using her Human Speech skill.

The little girl was startled at first. Her lips puckered in a pout, her eyes instantly reddening. She first looked at Mo Lan with envy, then her expression shifted to one full of resentment.

“I want to know too — why the God of Dreams only gave us the ability to make skill books!”

She tugged at the hem of her skirt indignantly. “If we could use skill books too, I wouldn’t have to spend every day here studying pink petal flowers. Plant transformation is just so hard!”

This answer made Mo Lan’s cat ears perk up instantly.

So the dream citizens could create skill books but couldn’t use them directly like adventurers?

But she quickly noticed a contradiction. “Don’t the Dryad innately possess two special transformation abilities? One plant and one animal — can’t those be mastered directly either?”

She deliberately glanced at the little girl’s status — the girl indeed had no profession level, and didn’t look like she was in the process of learning professional transformation skills.

“Of course not!” The little girl stomped her foot, the petals atop her head trembling along with the motion. “Everyone just knows which two special transformation abilities they’ve awakened — actually mastering them is still a long way off!”

She squatted down dejectedly and drew circles on the ground with her finger. “My mom says that since it’s taken me this long just to learn pink petal flower transformation, my Forest Warden talent is probably pretty mediocre. I’ll most likely end up as just a Beast Speaker.”

Mo Lan gazed thoughtfully at the crooked, lopsided pink petal flower atop the little girl’s head — clearly a failed transformation attempt.

So the professions of Greenwood Village’s dream citizens weren’t freely chosen like adventurers’ were — they too had natural aptitudes for certain professional paths!

“Here, this is for you. Thank you for answering my questions. I hope you master your pink petal flower transformation soon.” Mo Lan pushed a dream copper coin toward the girl.

“!!!” The little girl’s eyes lit up. “Thank you, kitty adventurer big sister! I can use this to buy a little pot and grow a pink petal flower to study!”

She grabbed the copper coin and skipped away. The pitiful little flower atop her head went “poof” and reverted to ordinary hair as she ran.

Mo Lan was deeply moved, and decided to follow the dream citizens’ example of grounded, hands-on learning.

Although she had the shortcut of knowledge from skill books, truly mastering the essence of transformation Magic required experiencing the nature of each form firsthand, just as the dream citizens did.

Only by truly learning to use real plants and animals as study templates could she eventually break free from the limitations of skill books and learn to transform into any plant or animal that interested her.

When transforming into the dark purple shadow cat, she was no longer satisfied with simple form mimicry. Instead, she truly integrated herself into Greenwood Village’s cat population.

Her fluffy dark figure nimbly wove between rooftop vine bridges, sniffing and playing with the other feral cats.

By observing how real cats angled their grooming, and how their muscles engaged when pouncing from ambush, she continuously refined the details of her transformation.

After transforming into a titmouse, she bravely joined the flocks in the treetops.

At first, the other titmice were wary of this “freak” — her feather sheen was too perfect, and her calls carried an unnatural rhythm.

But Mo Lan persisted in her mimicry, and eventually an elderly titmouse flock leader accepted her.

From the flock, she learned how to use tail feathers to fine-tune diving angles, and which wingbeat frequency was most energy-efficient.

The most unexpected discovery was finding that several dream citizens had also transformed into titmice and were practicing among the birds. One clumsy novice who nearly crashed into a branch looked exactly like Mo Lan had when she’d first transformed into a titmouse using her own abilities.

And when she took the form of a trailing orchid, Mo Lan no longer stayed in the flower pot on the inn’s balcony. She found a spot in a sunlit flower bed in the forest and planted herself there, experiencing the unique sensory perception of plant life.

As Mo Lan extended her root system, she discovered she could sense the vibrations of underground insects crawling, and her petals could distinguish the temperature differences of sunlight at various times of day.

Some of the plants in the flower bed had root systems arranged in obviously disordered patterns — they were clearly not real plants.

Yet those “plants” were also watching this strange adventurer with surprise.

Through this kind of immersive practice, Mo Lan’s transformation abilities improved at an astonishing rate.

By the third day in the dream realm, all the transformation skill books in her mental sea had disappeared.

According to her original plan, reaching this level of proficiency in transformation Magic would have counted as meeting the benchmark, and she could move on to learning other transformation skills.

As it happened, after mastering trailing orchid, shadow cat, titmouse, white cat, gale wolf, Human Speech, and Soothe Animal, she had earned 1 skill point reward for each. Now she could learn seven skill books at once.
