Chapter 854 – Learning Magic
by spirapira“Truly a race favored by the world…” Mo Lan watched the White Crystal People in the valley, a genuine twinge of envy rising unbidden from the depths of her heart. “The rumors really are true — the world consciousness always shows special favor to the magical races native to its world. It’s the same for Witches and Sorceresses, and the same for the White Crystal People…”
The White Crystal People’s high racial potential meant more magical energy available for expenditure, which was also good news for Mo Lan, who was preparing to promote Card Magic here.
To test just how strong the light liquid’s boosting effect on Heart Light truly was, Mo Lan remained hidden in the shadows even after all the White Crystal People’s Heart Light had recovered to a full state, not revealing herself immediately.
However, as she waited, she noticed that the White Crystal People had stopped drinking the light liquid altogether. Instead, they were carefully transporting all newly collected light liquid to the crystal-stone pool beside the altar, storing it with great care.
“Hm? Why did they stop?”
This unusual behavior caught Mo Lan’s attention. She quietly cast mind-reading magic, capturing their inner thoughts at that moment.
A wave of emotions — a mixture of satisfaction, slight discomfort, and even a sense of being “stuffed” — flowed into her perception.
“So full! I can’t drink another drop!”
“So this is what it feels like to be full!”
“Let’s store these away and save them for later!”
…
These inner voices brought Mo Lan sudden clarity. They hadn’t stopped because they didn’t want to continue — they simply couldn’t drink any more.
“It seems there’s a digestion limit to how much light liquid the White Crystal People can absorb.” Mo Lan mused thoughtfully, then deactivated the flying carpet’s invisibility function.
The dazzling white crystal tree-leaf mount materialized out of thin air once more. The Light-Gathering Fairy seated upon it radiated a soft glow all around her, as if she had never left.
Her sudden appearance startled the White Crystal People who were carefully storing the light liquid. But they quickly set down what they were doing and bowed respectfully.
“No need for formalities.” Mo Lan’s voice transmitted warmly into their minds. “It seems your Heart Light has fully recovered. Then now, I shall fulfill my promise and teach you the first Light Magic —”
She raised her right hand, palm facing upward, and twelve stable, gentle orbs of light rapidly coalesced above her palm.
“The Light spell!”
At her mental command, the light orbs slowly drifted away from her palm, hovering in midair, radiating a warm and reassuring glow. They echoed the enormous orb of light at the top of the farm, though much smaller in scale — only about the size of a fist.
“Did you see clearly?” With a wave of her hand, the twelve small light orbs flew before the White Crystal People, illuminating their crystalline bodies, allowing them to sense and observe at the closest possible distance.
“Feel the light orb before you. Observe its form. Hold its clearest image in your mind. Then channel the Heart Light flowing within your bodies, concentrate all of your attention, issue a command to it, transform it into light-element force, and then condense it into a stable light orb of your own!”
The White Crystal People gazed at the hovering light orbs before them, their eyes blazing with fervor.
To people from other worlds, the Light spell was merely a trivial illumination magic. But to the White Crystal People, the Light spell was the key that could utterly change their race’s destiny and break the shackles of their survival!
They began trying immediately, following the method Mo Lan had described, unable to contain their eagerness.
Yet even the simplest Light spell was far more complex and difficult to cast than merely converting Heart Light into light-element force. Either the converted light-element force was insufficient or unstable, or their observation and understanding of the light orb was inadequate, or the casting command wasn’t clear enough to precisely guide the light-element particles into gathering together. After too many failures, shifts in mentality would cause their concentration to waver, making success even harder.
For a time, problems erupted across the farm one after another.
The light in Xinhen’s palm flared violently — she had converted far too much light-element force all at once, lost control, and it immediately dissipated.
Yingyu learned from Xinhen’s mistake, but the light-element force she converted was far too little. Only scattered specks of light flickered before her, utterly unable to coalesce into an orb capable of illumination.
The amount of light-element force Jingchen converted was neither too much nor too little, but his observation of the light orb was insufficient and his casting command was chaotic. The light-element force scattered in every direction and quickly dissipated.
The others were the same — if it wasn’t one problem, it was another. Their just-recovered Heart Light was depleted completely, and not a single one of them succeeded.
Mo Lan observed each person’s problems clearly but offered no reproach. Instead, she calmly pointed out each of their issues and how to resolve them, one by one.
“On the path of magic, there is never a smooth road. Achieving precise control on your very first attempt — that is the stuff of legends. True progress comes from summarizing and adjusting after countless failures.”
She looked at their bodies, dimmed once more from the depletion of their Heart Light. “Now, go drink the light liquid and restore your strength. Practice the Light spell.
While you still have my Light spell for illumination, collect as much light liquid as you can and store it away! Once you’ve learned the Light spell, you’ll need to sustain yourselves. I won’t stay on White Crystal Star forever.”
Give a little and earn gratitude; give too much and breed resentment. Mo Lan understood this principle well. She could serve as a guide and a temporary protector, but she would never become a provider who gave without limits. True rescue meant bestowing upon them the ability to stand on their own, not creating permanent dependence.
Moreover, there was still something she needed to verify.
The white crystal trees in this valley could only produce light liquid without interruption under the illumination of her Sixth Rank Light spell.
Whether a White Crystal Person who had just learned the Light spell could cultivate high-yield white crystal trees using their own self-produced light, and whether the resulting light liquid output could even offset the Heart Light consumed by daily practice and spellcasting — that remained an open question.
Her words gave the White Crystal People a moment’s pause, but then expressions of even greater earnestness appeared on their faces.
The Light-Gathering Fairy would leave one day. In the end, they would have to rely on their own hands to sustain themselves.
When they had been in despair, they could calmly embrace death. But once hope appeared, they wanted to fight a little harder. After all, who didn’t want to go on living?
The White Crystal People began drinking the light liquid in an orderly fashion, restoring their Heart Light, then threw themselves even more wholeheartedly into a new round of practice. When they could drink no more, they went into the forest to collect light liquid, preparing for future self-sufficiency.
This time, after activating the flying carpet’s invisibility shield, Mo Lan did not remain where she was. Instead, she teleported directly back to the Witch’s home mirror space.
The White Crystal People learning the Light spell was only a matter of time. Now it was time to develop a White Crystal People version of Card Magic.
The Light spell could already free the White Crystal People from emotional energy, allowing them to cultivate white crystal trees and solve their survival resource problem.
For the subsequent transmission of magic, Mo Lan planned to integrate it with the White Crystal People version of Card Magic.
She hadn’t forgotten — the reason she had come seeking zero-level worlds and endangered worlds was to promote Card Magic and earn more permanent Mana!
