Chapter 909 – The Headmistress’s Golden Chalice
by spirapiraAfter Anita left in her usual whirlwind fashion, the centennial assembly at Starault Hall drew to a close.
The Witches teleported away one after another, hurrying off to prepare for the upcoming operation.
Amisha walked slowly up to Sylph and produced an ornate golden chalice of classical, stately design:
“Sylph, during this time, I’ve taught you everything a Headmistress needs to know. As per our prior agreement, from today onward, you are the new Headmistress of the Witch Academy. The Headmistress’s Golden Chalice will now be entrusted to your care. Once you imprint it with your Mana signature, you’ll be able to use the chalice’s avatar function. You can then send some of your avatars to watch over and teach the young Witches, while the others handle your personal affairs.”
By tradition, the Headmistress of the Witch Academy typically served a term of only one hundred years, though stepping down required first finding and training a qualified successor.
Amisha had originally taken the position to leverage the Headmistress’s Golden Chalice’s avatar function, allowing her to more efficiently raise her Magic proficiency and advance further on the path of the Omnipotent Witch—so as not to waste the All-Element Magic aptitude she had worked so painstakingly to develop.
But she had already served consecutive terms spanning over two hundred years, and every form of Magic she commanded had been elevated to the highest level currently achievable.
For her now, advancing her Mana tier was the most pressing priority. She had long been searching for a successor, eager to explore other worlds and acquire Source Mana crystals.
So when Sylph expressed interest in becoming Headmistress, Amisha was overjoyed. She spared no effort in mentoring her and completed the handover.
Now only the Headmistress’s Golden Chalice remained.
At this moment, Amisha practically couldn’t wait to press the Headmistress’s Golden Chalice into Sylph’s hands. “Do a good job! If there’s anything you don’t understand, contact me anytime with a Communication Card. I shouldn’t be leaving Valen before everyone departs for the Immortal Realm.”
Then, as if terrified Sylph might chase after her, she teleported away at lightning speed.
In the blink of an eye, only four people remained on the meadow—Sylph, Vasida, Lilith, and Mo Lan—along with Traci and Carmela, who lived here to begin with.
Sylph held the weighty Headmistress’s Golden Chalice in both hands, momentarily lost in silent thought.
“That Headmistress role! I’d say Amisha didn’t want to serve a single day longer!” Carmela looked toward the spot where Amisha had vanished and couldn’t help but laugh and shake her head.
“Now that Sylph has become Headmistress, she can’t leave Valen for the time being, right?” Vasida asked with concern. “Then this Immortal Realm campaign…”
“Yes, I’m afraid I won’t be able to go.”
Sylph nodded.
“But it’s alright. Once you’ve all successfully rescued those worlds, I can still select suitable Hybrid Magic Cards and list them on the corresponding Card Shops.
Although the Mana earned won’t be as much as going in person, it’s still a considerable return. More importantly, I’ll have gained more free time to focus on cultivating magical plants and studying Magic.”
For her, compared to that one percent commission from Card Magic revenue, the wondrous plants in her care awaiting cultivation held far greater appeal.
This arrangement suited her perfectly—she could use her avatars to help manage the Academy and tend to her plants, while simultaneously earning Mana from other worlds through the Card Shop. It was truly the best of both worlds.
“I plan to wait a while longer and accumulate more disposable Mana before commissioning Moira to custom-build a larger mirror space that better suits my needs,” Sylph added. “After all, now that I’ve become the Headmistress of the Witch Academy, the Witch Academy Semi-Plane has vast tracts of land and countless spatial greenhouses where I can cultivate plants. The mirror space isn’t urgent—I might as well save up more and have an even better one made.”
“Fair enough!” Lilith and Vasida expressed understanding. Their requirements for a mirror space weren’t as demanding as Sylph’s.
Though they hadn’t yet fully accumulated enough disposable Mana for their custom mirror spaces either, they weren’t far off.
In order to make it in time for this rare group expedition, they planned to scale back some of their requirements slightly and reallocate part of their budget to upgrade their custom mirror space cards directly into the more comprehensive, space-travel-suitable mirror space card—Star Sea Voyager variant.
They would place their orders with Mo Lan as soon as the departure date was confirmed.
This approach would save far more time and effort than obtaining a basic mirror space and retrofitting it themselves afterward.
Sylph glanced at her Magical Pocket Watch. “It’s almost six o’clock. I need to head back to the Headmistress’s Lounge to arrange the Guardian Headmistress duties!”
She explained that although today was a weekend and the young Witches in the Academy’s core area were perfectly safe, many senior students would venture into the inner zones or even the dangerous outer region, requiring the Guardian Headmistress’s constant watch.
Mo Lan’s eyes immediately lit up at this, brimming with curiosity. “Sylph, can we come along and watch?”
Ever since her student days, she had always been deeply curious about the Headmistress’s mysterious avatar ability.
As for the Knowledge Cards awaiting study, the newly transcribederta 《Cosmic Travel Journal》, and the Magic books she’d acquired through trade? She could always adjust her mirror space’s time flow to the extreme when she got back and go into intensive seclusion.
Besides, the journey to the Immortal Realm’s star region would be long, and there would be plenty of time to study.
Right now, satisfying this long-held curiosity and witnessing the Headmistress’s Golden Chalice’s wondrous power firsthand was clearly more important.
Vasida and Lilith immediately chimed in: “We want to go too!”
How the Headmistress used her avatars to handle numerous tasks simultaneously in daily life was equally fascinating to them.
Seeing the eager anticipation in her three friends’ eyes, Sylph smiled warmly and readily agreed. “Of course, follow me.”
She had already learned how to use the Headmistress’s Golden Chalice from Madam Amisha, and prior to this, Madam Amisha had already transferred partial Headmistress authority to her.
With a mere thought, she opened a teleportation portal leading to the Headmistress’s Lounge.
However, upon seeing the portal before them—an archway of emerald-green vines naturally intertwined, dotted with a few peculiar little flowers radiating a soft luminous halo, through which the faint green magical energy revealed a glimpse of the Headmistress’s Lounge on the other side, the whole passage brimming with natural vitality and a sense of safety—Mo Lan, Vasida, and Lilith all wore expressions of utter disbelief.
“This… this is a teleportation portal?” Lilith couldn’t help but ask for confirmation.
Their reaction was entirely warranted. Back when they were students, every teleportation portal Madam Amisha opened was, without exception, a minimalist-to-the-point-of-brutal dark swirling vortex of space—the kind that gave you the terrifying feeling you’d never come back out once you stepped in. The contrast with what stood before them now was simply too vast!
Seeing their astonished expressions, Sylph smiled a little sheepishly.
“The style of the teleportation portal is just the Headmistress’s personal flair! I think this looks nicer and helps the young Witches feel more at ease.
As for Madam Amisha’s style, apparently it was to minimize teleportation comfort to the absolute lowest, so everyone could get used to the sensation of spatial teleportation. That way, whether casting teleportation Magic themselves or traveling via someone else’s teleportation in the future, they’d adapt quickly.”
