Chapter 1024 – Mo Lan’s Lazy Daily Life 8
by spirapira“Goodbye, big sister Moira! Goodbye, Zhizhi! Goodbye, Clack! Goodbye, Sentai! I’ll come visit you all in a couple days! Wait for me, okay!”
Little Leila’s tender farewell was brimming with boundless anticipation for her upcoming visit.
The flying carpet was summoned once more, and Sentai’s vines slid away from little Leila’s waving hand, coiling back around the carpet’s edge.
In front of the treehouse, Dayla held little Leila, who was still vigorously waving her small hands.
The sweeping arc of those little arms—Mo Lan could still see them even after the flying carpet disappeared beyond the treetops.
“We’re going to have a little guest,” Mo Lan said softly, her voice full of anticipation. “We’d better prepare properly.”
She was already making mental plans: she needed to set up a more comfortable and fun children’s room for little Leila, prepare some entertaining things and snacks suitable for a child, and map out several safe yet fun routes for walks and play around the Sea of Roses and the hollow tree…
Perhaps she could even prepare some children’s items in advance and carefully infuse them with Magic!
“Master! We can help!” Zhizhi declared, thumping its chest.
The three of them were far more reliable than anything produced through Magic Infusion!
“Great!” Mo Lan agreed with a smile. “I’ll be counting on you all to help me look after little Leila when the time comes!”
*
A few days later, on a clear morning, Mo Lan was on the platform atop the mutant hollow tree, enjoying a simple breakfast while watching the Sea of Roses awaken in the morning light.
Zhizhi hung from the railing nearby by its tail, swinging back and forth. Clack stood quietly to one side. Sentai’s vines spread along the platform’s wooden structure, its leaves looking especially verdant in the morning glow.
Just then, a crisp shout came from the direction of the forest:
“Big sister Moira—! We’re here—!”
The bright voice cut through the still morning air, startling several early birds from the nearby bushes.
Mo Lan looked toward the sound and saw, at the forest’s edge, Grandma Dayla holding little Leila’s hand, walking at an unhurried pace along a path through the woods.
Dayla wore a more formal Witch’s robe, while little Leila bounced along like a bird freed from its cage, her chestnut curls bobbing with every hop.
Today she wore a brand-new powder-blue tutu dress—one of the gifts Mo Lan had given her last time.
At her waist hung a small crossbody bag embroidered with Wind Chime Flower patterns, stuffed plump and full.
“They’re here,” Mo Lan said with a smile, standing up and waving down below.
Zhizhi immediately let out excited squeaks, scurrying down the outer wall of the hollow tree at top speed to be the first to greet the guests.
Sentai and Clack hurried after it.
Mo Lan descended the spiral staircase briskly. The moment she opened the archway formed by living roots, a small figure threw herself impatiently into her arms.
“Big sister Moira! I missed you so much!” Little Leila hugged Mo Lan’s legs tightly, her upturned face beaming brighter than the sunshine. “I came with Mama! Look, I’m wearing the new dress you gave me!”
She let go and twirled proudly, her fluffy skirt flaring out around her.
“I see it—you look beautiful! Like a little princess,” Mo Lan praised sincerely, then looked up at Dayla, who was approaching with a warm smile. “Grandma, was the journey smooth? How come you walked here?”
“Very smooth. The forest is lovely for a walk in the early morning.” Dayla drew near and gazed up at the tall, extraordinary hollow tree and the dreamlike Sea of Roses surrounding it. “The scenery here… it really is stunning!”
“Mama! Look! It really is the tree’s belly!” Little Leila’s attention had already been completely captured by the hollow tree’s interior. She let go of Mo Lan, ran to the doorway, and peered inside with her little head poking through, exclaiming in wonder. “Wow—it’s so bright inside! And there are stairs! They go round and round!”
“Welcome to my treehouse, little Leila.” Mo Lan made an inviting gesture. “Would you like to come in and see your room? Zhizhi and the others helped decorate it for you.”
“Yes!” Little Leila burst with excitement, but still turned back to grab her mama’s hand first before walking into the treehouse together.
The interior of the treehouse was warm and bright, the air carrying a faint, clean scent of wood.
Everything was neat and orderly, yet with added touches of childlike charm prepared especially for the little guest.
Mo Lan led them up the spiral staircase to the upper level. She pushed open an arched doorway naturally formed by branches. “Here—this is your room.”
The room was small but decorated with great care.
A low, cozy little bed made up with cloud-soft bedding was placed against the wall, with a small magical nightlight hanging at the headboard that emitted a gentle starlight glow.
Beside it was a charming little round window that looked directly out onto the Sea of Roses. Right now the sunlight was just right, filling the room with warm, cheerful light.
Next to the bed stood a short, adorably shaped tree-stump table and a small cushion.
What delighted little Leila the most was a small “toy corner” in one corner of the room, bordered by soft dried moss and colorful pebbles. Inside were several brand-new plush toys—miniature versions of Zhizhi, Clack, and Sentai—along with a tiny tea set and several new picture books.
“Do you like it?” Mo Lan asked.
Little Leila was already staring in awe. She let go of her mama’s hand, slowly walked into the room, and nodded vigorously. “I love it! I super-duper love it! Thank you, big sister Moira!”
She ran over and hugged each of the new plush toys in turn. “Hello there, little Zhizhi, little Clack, little Sentai—I’m little Leila!”
Dayla surveyed the thoughtfully prepared room, her eyes full of warmth and gratitude. “Moira, you put so much care into this—even setting up a whole room!”
“It’s nothing!” Mo Lan smiled. “Little Leila, why don’t you get familiar with your room first, or let Zhizhi and the others give you a tour of the whole treehouse? Grandma and I will chat downstairs for a bit, okay?”
“Okay!” Little Leila was immediately captivated by the idea of a treehouse tour.
Watching her daughter quickly hit it off with Zhizhi and the others, Dayla headed downstairs with Mo Lan, at ease.
Sitting down in the Living Room, Dayla handed Mo Lan a small cloth bag. “Here—fresh berries and edible magical herbs I picked in the forest. They taste quite nice. And this.”
She produced a slim notebook wrapped in soft leather. “These are some notes I kept over the years about handling common little situations with young witches. They might be of some help to you.”
Mo Lan accepted them solemnly, especially the notebook. “Thank you so much, Grandma. This is exactly what I need!”
“Little Leila is an easy child overall, but she is still young—curious, full of energy, and she can’t be left unsupervised.”
Dayla gave careful instructions. “She usually wakes up early in the morning and needs a hearty breakfast. She has a good napping habit—usually about an hour after lunch, sleeping for an hour and a half to two hours. She goes to bed early in the evening too, but likes to hear stories before falling asleep. She’s not picky about most foods and especially loves sweets—just remember not to let her have too many at once…”
