Chapter Index

Mo Lan couldn’t help but laugh at the egg baby’s sudden mischievous antics. She reached out and gently tapped the eggshell.

“What a naughty little one! No bullying Sentai, okay!”

The egg baby lay there perfectly still, not moving a muscle, as if the nimble rolling egg from moments ago had nothing to do with her.

Seeing this, Zhizhi’s curiosity was piqued. Eager to try it herself, she extended a tiny paw and ever so lightly poked the other side of the eggshell with her fingertip.

    “Gururu—”

The egg baby immediately pulled the same trick, rolling with the force across the cushion for nearly half a turn, almost crashing into the railing.

Zhizhi: “!!!” Her eyes went perfectly round as she looked at her own paw, then back at the “innocent” egg, her face full of disbelief.

Then her eyes darted sideways toward the quietly sitting Clack, and she egged her on: “Clack! You try! Just give her a gentle touch!”

Clack hesitated for a moment, but under the watchful, amused gazes of both Zhizhi and Mo Lan, she slowly extended a single smooth finger bone and touched the eggshell with a contact so light it barely had any force at all.

    “Gudong.”

The egg baby didn’t hesitate for a second, rolling with the momentum once more, this time making a small circle.

    “…”

Mo Lan pressed a hand to her forehead, laughing in spite of herself.

She opened her communication bracelet, switched to the “Sorceress’s Home” group chat, and with a few taps shared the whole hilarious episode of the egg baby’s chain-rolling antics and how she’d teased Sentai, Zhizhi, and Clack. Her tone carried that helpless yet sweet amusement.

【Moira: Status report — my little one just ‘arrived’ and she’s already restless. One touch and she rolls, and every roll is a full somersault. She scared Sentai right off. [facepalm]】

The message went out and immediately sparked enthusiastic responses from her friends.

【Vasida: Hahaha! What a naughty little thing — she hasn’t even hatched yet and she’s already playing tricks on people! Sounds like she’s got an active personality. She’s definitely not going to sit still in the future!】

【Sylph: Behavioral patterns during the egg baby stage can indeed reflect innate personality to a certain degree. Moira, your future days are going to be very, very ‘lively.’ [snicker]】

【Lilith: Oh my god! How do you all have time to laugh! Come save me! Mine absolutely refuses to stay on her cushion — she keeps rolling toward the Sea of Roses, and now she’s gotten herself wedged in the gap between the railings on the treetop platform.】

【Vasida: I guess ours is the most ‘well-behaved’ so far? At least she’s willing to hang on the tree obediently… Wait, no! She moved! She’s starting to sway!】

【Vasida: She came down! My egg baby finally came down from the tree! [image]】

The photo had been taken in her front yard.

The egg baby lay peacefully on the soft cushion that had been prepared, looking perfectly normal.

But radiating outward from the egg baby, the lawn beneath her… displayed ring after ring of uniformly deep, elliptical grooves!

The grass along the edges of the grooves was bent flat in neat rows, the soil slightly upturned, as if some heavy, round object had rolled over it repeatedly.

【Moira: …What happened to your yard? Those grooves…】

【Sylph: Obviously rolled out by the egg baby.】

【Vasida: [losing it] That’s exactly what she did!!! Thank goodness I reinforced the yard fence back then! After she fell off the tree, she couldn’t stop at all! Like a top with a perpetual motion spell cast on it, she was spinning and rolling around my yard like crazy! I tried to block her with magic, and she actually dodged — turning, accelerating, even bouncing briefly to avoid it! She rolled for a full ten-plus minutes and literally ‘plowed’ up my entire front lawn. It wasn’t until she was apparently exhausted from all the rolling that she finally settled down! I was this close to thinking she was going to smash through the fence and roll all the way into the woods!】

The group chat was instantly flooded with “HAHAHAHA” — even Lilith, who had just been fretting over her own egg baby, couldn’t resist joining in the laughter.

The four newly appointed witch-mothers chatted eagerly in the “Sorceress’s Home” group, sharing the bizarre and wonderful “exploits” of their respective egg babies, finding it all both hilarious and exciting.

For the egg babies to accumulate enough strength and complete their final internal adjustments before hatching, it typically took quite a considerable amount of time.

During this period, the little ones’ personalities were already beginning to show.

Vasida’s little Tessa was clearly an unstoppable plowing champion with boundless energy.

Unless she was absolutely exhausted, she would never stop. Her favorite activity was spinning in circles while rolling at high speed.

At first it was on the front lawn, where she forcibly “plowed” ring-shaped furrows into the smooth green turf.

After repairing the lawn several times, Vasida finally accepted reality.

Competing with an energetic egg baby was futile.

With a wave of her hand, she converted most of the front yard into a soft, thick bed of fine golden sand, free of any obstacles.

“Fine then, sweetheart. From now on, this is all yours — roll to your heart’s content!”

Little Tessa seemed very pleased with her dedicated “sandbox.” Every day she tirelessly traced all sorts of complex circles and wavy lines in the sand, occasionally even attempting to “bounce” over small sand dunes, having the time of her life.

Lilith’s Dorella couldn’t bear to be apart from flowers for even a moment.

From the very beginning, her obsession had been the Sea of Roses — whenever she wasn’t “contained,” she would roll determinedly in the direction of the flower sea.

Once Lilith brought her to the flower sea, she immediately calmed down.

Fortunately, she wasn’t exclusively attached to roses. Left with no other choice, Lilith undertook a major “floral renovation” of her home.

She carved out multiple vertical flower walls inside the hollow tree, arranged mobile flower planters on the treetop platform, and even used magic to maintain a ring of perpetually blooming miniature flowers around the cushion where Dorella usually rested.

From then on, Dorella finally settled down. As long as she was surrounded by flowers, she was the most “well-behaved” egg there could be.

Sylph’s Evelyn was the undisputed “model student of the egg baby world.”

Every day she lay quietly on Dunmu, letting Dunmu carry her around everywhere. She had never once rolled off a cushion or off Dunmu on her own.

By comparison, Mo Lan’s Sylvia was an unassuming “stealth trickster” with an insatiable curiosity.

On the surface, she was very “well-behaved.” Whenever someone — Mo Lan’s gaze — was watching her, she would lie in the center of her cushion like the most textbook egg baby model, perfectly still and proper. The thoughts she transmitted were innocently harmless: “I’m fine, everything’s good.”

However, the moment Mo Lan’s eyes shifted away even briefly, Sylvia would immediately reveal her true colors!

In no time at all, she would roll off the cushion and curiously roll around exploring everywhere.

The moment Mo Lan “caught her in the act,” she would instantly revert to her “frozen” state.

But no matter how far she roamed, she never left the yard — as if she instinctively knew where was safest for her.

Once she had toured every nook and cranny of the wooden house and its little courtyard, inside and out, top to bottom, satisfying her curiosity, she was no longer content with mere “jailbreaks” anymore. (End of Chapter)
