Chapter 1033 – Mo Lan’s Lazy Daily Life 17
by spirapiraThe moment Vasida saw how effortlessly Mo Lan controlled the red Dragon’s breath, her eyes lit up.
With a loud clang, she dragged out another identical large magical barbecue grill and deftly set it up beside Mo Lan.
“Perfect! This way the two of you can each have your own grill — full firepower, double the efficiency! We’ll get to eat that much sooner!” Vasida clapped her hands, her tone brimming with satisfaction at having two fire-tenders at her disposal.
Lilith, who had just wiped away her sweat and thought she might finally catch a breather — or at least not have to man a grill alone — froze on the spot at the sight of two grills standing side by side: “…”
Mo Lan took in every detail of Lilith’s instantly crumbling expression, undisguised mischief dancing in her eyes. She even deliberately used Heart Speech to tell her: “That’s what you get for dragging me into this. Now we can shine together in front of the grills!”
Lilith continued breathing Dragon fire onto the meat without complaint, all while “arguing” furiously with Mo Lan through Heart Speech.
Just then, the sea nearby parted with a splash as Sylph burst through the surface, returning from her dive into the deep.
With a sweep of her arm, a large bundle of deep-sea magical plants appeared on the beach — not only the ones Vasida had specifically requested, but several bonus finds as well.
The moment Lilith spotted her — and especially heard her bright, energetic voice — her eyes lit up as brilliantly as the coals beneath the grill.
After setting aside the freshly grilled meat, she darted forward in a flash, warmly draping an arm around Sylph’s shoulders, her tone radiating enthusiasm:
“Sylph! Back when we were in Thelan, we shared Dragon heritage memories with each other, remember? You can use Blazing Breath too, right?”
Sylph, caught off guard by this sudden burst of affection, nodded somewhat bewilderedly: “Yes, why?”
“That’s wonderful!” Lilith’s face blossomed into an incredibly “sincere” smile as she gently steered Sylph toward the grills. “Quick, come help me with…”
Before she could finish saying “help me grill for a bit,” Mo Lan immediately called out:
“Vasida! Quick, bring out another grill! Sylph can use Blazing Breath too — we can add another star player to our barbecue assembly line! The sooner we finish grilling, the sooner we eat!”
“Really? You can too, Sylph? That’s fantastic!”
Vasida didn’t even look up. She was busy squeezing juice from freshly harvested tidal lemongrass to marinate the meat. Overjoyed at the news, she didn’t hesitate for a second — with a wave of her hand, a third identical large magical barbecue grill “materialized” from her kitchen storage space and landed with a clang beside the others.
“Come, come, come, Sylph, this one’s yours! Perfect spot, good wind direction too!” Vasida beckoned enthusiastically, as if assigning the most critical station on a production line.
Fire-tender squad — plus one!
Mo Lan wore the radiant smile of a successful prankster: “That’s what good friends are for — sharing the blessings and sharing the ‘burdens’!”
“…” Lilith opened her mouth, then looked at Sylph, who had already been half-pushed, half-guided by Vasida to the third grill and was staring blankly at the brand-new grill and the mountain of ingredients piled beside it. She shook her head with an amused laugh: “Well, no one’s slacking off now.”
And Sylph, who had been so neatly conscripted, stood before the third grill. Feeling the waves of heat rolling off the two grills beside her and the “welcome to the team” gazes from Mo Lan and Lilith, she finally came back to her senses.
“Alright then…” Sylph took a deep breath, recalled the essentials of red Dragon’s breath from the heritage memories, converted her Mana into the power of the red Dragon bloodline, and — mimicking Mo Lan and Lilith — aimed at the grill and puffed out her cheeks.
A stream of Blazing Breath every bit as fierce came roaring forth!
Flames flickered as the aroma of grilling meat and spices mingled with the sea breeze, wafting across the entire beach.
With three “top-tier fire-tenders” working in full force, the pace of food preparation skyrocketed. By the time the grilling was mostly done, Vasida had directed her enchanted cookware to finish all the other dishes in sync.
In an instant, the fragrance on the little island’s beach reached its peak, as all manner of indescribably delicious aromas intertwined and collided, as if even the air itself had become appetizing.
The extra-long “dining table” — carefully woven by Sentai and covered with smooth, broad leaves — was now laden with a dazzling spread, like a deep-sea delicacy exhibition.
In the center sat a mountain of mixed grilled meat platters: sea dragon eel tenderloin strips with lightly crisped skin and pink, juicy interiors; hammerhead shark “live meat” chunks so silky and springy they seemed to dance on the tongue; and snow-white Armored Crusher Worm meat strips grilled to perfection — firm yet delicate.
Beside them, in enormous shell bowls, sat a rich, milky-white Armored Crusher Worm essence soup, its surface sprinkled with emerald-green shreds of tidal lemongrass and flecks of luminescent sea fennel, its fragrance irresistible.
The translucent cap of the Ghost Jellyfish King had been expertly sliced into thin sheets and drizzled with a sweet-and-sour sauce Vasida had prepared from Abyssal black pepper vine and several varieties of tart berries.
There were also stir-fried seasonal vegetables made from other parts of the Rift-Tooth Hammerhead Shark, luxurious pâté crafted from sea dragon eel liver served with toasted bread slices, and an assortment of dipping sauces and small dishes prepared with fresh deep-sea spices…
And a bucket of specially mixed cocktails radiating icy chill, along with several pots of warm, palate-cleansing herbal tea brewed from tidebell flowers and moonlight grass.
“All done! Time to eat!” Vasida placed a final dish of gold-dusted crispy roasted seaweed chips at the center of the table, clapped her hands, and declared the late-night feast officially open.
Mo Lan and the others had long since been tempted beyond restraint by the aromas.
All the food sat in specially made serving dishes that preserved the fresh-off-the-flame flavors, with no worry of anything going cold.
Sylph took a seat on a stool woven by Sentai, while Mo Lan and the others simply sat down on the soft sand.
“To this hard-won deep-sea feast, and to our rare reunion — cheers!”
“Cheers!”
“Cheers!”
Crystal glasses clinked gently in the air, producing a crisp, melodious ring.
Everyone laughed as they drained their glasses of the ice-cold, refreshing drink in one go.
“Dig in, dig in! No need to be polite!” Vasida set down her glass and couldn’t wait to pick up a piece of perfectly seared sea dragon eel tenderloin, dip it in the special sauce, and pop it into her mouth. She immediately narrowed her eyes and let out a contented sigh:
“Mmm—! That’s the flavor! Crispy outside, tender inside, rich with fat — the subtle bitterness of the power of shadow balances the richness perfectly, and with this sauce… perfection!”
Lilith had fallen head over heels for the stir-fried hammerhead shark live meat. One bite in, and the silky, springy flesh burst with savory juices in her mouth. She nodded repeatedly:
“This meat lives up to its reputation — and the heat is just right. A moment more and it’d be overdone, a moment less and it’d be raw!”
Sylph scooped up a spoonful of the milky-white soup, blew on it gently, and sipped. She was immediately conquered by its supremely rich, sweet depth — her eyes brightened several shades.
Mo Lan savored the translucent Ghost Jellyfish King sashimi, its crisp and bouncy texture paired with the sweet, sour, and subtly spicy sauce creating wonderful layers of flavor in her mouth. She smiled in praise:
“Vasida, this sauce of yours is truly the finishing touch that brings it all together.”
