Chapter Index

“I already gave her those books to look at ages ago!”

Mo Lan let out a soft sigh, somewhat helpless. “She was quite interested at first, but after quickly flipping through all the illustrated volumes once, she refused to look at them a second time.

It’s not that she doesn’t like books, it’s just… the world inside books, no matter how brilliantly illustrated, doesn’t seem as real or appealing to her as seeing things with her own eyes.”

“She refused to look again after just one read-through?” Vasida thought of something and looked at Mo Lan in shock. “Sylvia couldn’t possibly have… a photographic memory like you, could she?”

    Mo Lan shook her head.

“I specifically tested her — she doesn’t have a photographic memory. She didn’t fully understand the contents after reading them, let alone memorize them. She just browsed through once and picked up some shallow, vague concepts.

When I tell her the stories and knowledge from the books, she listens well enough, but her interest clearly can’t compare to her longing for what lies on the other side of Spring Sight Lake.

What she loves is witnessing different landscapes with her own eyes.

So I thought, before she formally enters the Academy to study magic systematically, I’d take her out to see more of the world, let her experience its vastness and diversity firsthand, and along the way, teach her to identify dangers and learn how to respond to them.

That way, by the time she’s old enough for school, she might be able to settle down and truly understand the meaning of learning.

It’s about following her nature, satisfying her interests, and then converting all of that into motivation for her future studies!”

“Following her nature… satisfying her interests…” Vasida repeated these phrases thoughtfully, her eyes gradually brightening as though a new train of thought had opened up. “By that logic, could I also use a Dietary Fortification Card on my Little Tessa and then ‘spar’ with her for fun, while teaching her some basic self-defense techniques along the way?

She spends all day tumbling and roughhousing anyway — instead of letting her flail around on her own, wouldn’t it be better if I taught her something useful!”

“Exactly,” Mo Lan affirmed with a smile. “That’s not rushing things at all. Just like how Dorella loves flowers, so we create an environment for her to interact with plants and learn simple gardening; or how Evelyn prefers quiet, so we give her a peaceful, comfortable space — perhaps later we can guide her toward a mage’s meditation technique.

We’re observing and respecting their natural inclinations, helping them cultivate their interests so they can develop better.

Travel, for Sylvia, is the ‘interest’ that satisfies her curiosity!”

Sylph and Lilith couldn’t help but fall deep into thought as well.

Though neither of them wanted to join Mo Lan’s traveling party, that didn’t stop them from creating better conditions for their own daughters’ interests and hobbies.

Mo Lan herself had a clear travel plan in mind, but she knew well that the most important participant in this upcoming journey was her daughter.

Therefore, before making any formal preparations, the first thing she needed to do was solemnly ask for Sylvia’s opinion.

That evening, Mo Lan took out a map of the Valen world drawn on parchment, emanating a soft, gentle glow, and spread it flat across the thick plush carpet in the center of the Living Room.

“Sylvia, come here.” She called to her daughter. Sylvia pattered over, her purple eyes immediately drawn to the vibrant colors and winding lines on the map.

Mimicking her mother’s posture, she leaned her little head close to the map, curiously studying the unfamiliar place names and symbols.

“Sylvia,” Mo Lan said, pointing to the vast forests, rolling mountain ranges, meandering rivers, and scattered town markers on the map.

“Mommy wants to ask you — would you like to… go on a journey with Mommy?

We could explore forests, watch the sunrise by the sea, eat delicious food in unfamiliar towns, and see all kinds of different landscapes.”

Sylvia’s little face instantly lit up with delight. She almost nodded in agreement right away, but the very next second, the contents of 《Young Witch’s Primer: Safety Edition》rang like a tiny alarm bell in her mind.

She remembered very clearly — the book had emphasized that little witch babies should stay inside the homes protected by their mothers’ magic, and should not venture out alone or carelessly leave familiar areas, much less leave the Witch’s Wilds. Out there, unknown magical creatures, complicated environments, and even people with ill intentions could all pose dangers to them.

She lifted her small face, her eyes a mix of longing and worry, her little hand unconsciously clutching the hem of Mo Lan’s clothes.

“Mommy, will traveling… be dangerous? The book says that outside… outside there might be bad things.”

Hearing her daughter consider safety concerns even at a moment like this, Mo Lan felt both gratified and tender.

She reached out, gently gathered her daughter into her arms, letting her lean against her, then pointed at the map and made a promise in the most resolute tone.

“Sylvia, Mommy promises you — as long as we’re together, as long as you promise Mommy not to wander out of my sight, Mommy will never let you encounter any real danger.”

Her voice was steady and full of strength. “Mommy will always be by your side to protect you. And before we set out, Mommy will prepare some special magical items suited for you. They’ll help and protect you in case I’m not paying attention, or if we accidentally get separated.

There will be new and exciting things on our journey, and there will be challenges too, but Mommy will be fully prepared. We’ll face them together, okay?”

These words were like a reassuring balm, dispelling the last trace of worry in Sylvia’s heart.

After all, 《Young Witch’s Primer》 had said it clearly — Mommy Mo Lan was one of the First-Generation Sorceresses, the great Card Sorceress, the most powerful being in the entire world!

Her absolute trust in her mother, combined with her irrepressible curiosity and longing for the outside world, made her little head bob up and down like a chick pecking at grain, her voice crisp and bright.

“Then I want to go! I want to go traveling with Mommy! To see the ocean! To see the tall, tall mountains! And… and towns with lots and lots of people!”

Seeing the spark ignite in her daughter’s eyes, Mo Lan smiled. “Alright, then it’s a promise! After your third birthday, we’ll officially set out! But before that, we need to make thorough preparations for our journey together.”

“Preparations?” Sylvia blinked. “What do we need to prepare? Doesn’t Mommy have the Book of Cards? Can’t you just go ‘whoosh’ and make all sorts of cards appear?”

“There’s actually quite a lot to prepare!” Mo Lan explained patiently, straightening her daughter up to face the map.

“On my end, I need to design and build a ‘mobile magical home’ that can carry us comfortably while keeping us safe. It needs to fit us and Zhizhi and the others, and be able to fly through the sky, run on the ground, and ideally even swim through water…”
