Chapter Index

Mo Lan started practicing with a few leaves, then moved on to levitating objects in the Dormitory—from light to heavy, from few to many, from small to large. She didn’t rush or get greedy, practicing steadily and methodically.

It wasn’t until she tried levitating the wardrobe and the clothes inside it that Mo Lan felt she was reaching her limits.

At only the Apprentice level of magic, the amount of mana she could simultaneously channel into the Levitation Spell was limited—not enough to lift the entire wardrobe and all the clothes inside at once.

Still, this level of ability was more than sufficient for her daily task of fetching ingredients.

Mo Lan checked the time—it was already four in the afternoon.

She hadn’t gone to attune her Broomstick Grass today, and she still hadn’t picked up ingredients for tonight and tomorrow. Mo Lan floated a large basket out the door with her.

She planned to swing by the Breadfruit Grove on her way back from collecting ingredients to pick some Breadfruit as well.

She’d been practicing Culinary Magic recently and was eating less Breadfruit Cake, but she still needed plenty of Breadfruit juice.

She’d been practicing magic all day, and her remaining mana was dropping below half of her total capacity. She’d need to drink Breadfruit juice to replenish what she’d used.

Vasida, who was squatting in her vegetable garden tending to her seedlings, heard the door open and turned to look: “⊙0⊙!”

Needless to say, Mo Lan had gone and learned the Levitation Spell too.

“Normal! This is perfectly normal!” Vasida closed her mouth, which had formed into an “O” shape.

Mo Lan was passing by her yard when she heard the muttering and looked over, spotting the little witch squatting in her vegetable garden counting mushrooms. “Vasida, what’s normal?”

“Nothing, nothing…” Vasida glanced at the weeds in her hand and deflected, “I was just saying it’s perfectly normal for weeds to grow in the vegetable garden.”

“Mine has weeds too! I just sprayed herbicide potion yesterday,” Mo Lan said.

Vasida, who had been pulling weeds by hand: “???”

“Herbicide potion? Where did you get it? After planting magic class and Broomgrass Cultivation class ended, didn’t the Headmistress stop providing herbicide potion? She said we should learn to brew potions and make our own!” Vasida said.

Why else would she be out here pulling weeds by hand!

“During planting magic class, we saved so much herbicide potion that the supply in the potion cabinet was never used up. I just took a few bottles home, and the Headmistress didn’t stop me. It should last until the end of first year without any problems,” Mo Lan said. “There should still be some in the potion cabinet. Why don’t you go check?”

Vasida, who had been pulling weeds by hand for two hours, shot to her feet in an instant. “I’m going!”

She could manage the weeds in the Dormitory yard, but if she had to pull all the weeds in the farmland by hand too, she felt she’d wear herself out completely.

She’d taken barely two steps before turning back to grab the handful of weeds she’d just pulled and stuff them into the Devouring Stomach. She didn’t forget to grab her vegetable basket either—since she was making a trip to the Planting District anyway, she might as well pick up some vegetables on the way.

Mo Lan went with Vasida, stopping by her own farmland to take a look and cast the Fertile Soil spell and Lush Flourishing spell.

“There really is some left!” In the tool shed that hadn’t been visited by any little witch in quite some time, Vasida actually found leftover herbicide potion that hadn’t been used up! It was exactly what had been left over from planting magic class.

Back when Lady Amisha had said the herbicide potion wouldn’t be provided after the course ended, Vasida had assumed these leftovers had been taken away too!

Vasida was overjoyed, but she didn’t take more than she needed. Potions class had already started—once they finished learning about magical plants, they’d be taught how to brew basic potions. Two bottles would be enough to get through this period, and the rest could be left for the other little witches to use. Everyone’s fields were right next to each other, and she wasn’t the only one dealing with weeds.

While Vasida was enthusiastically spraying herbicide potion, Mo Lan had already finished checking her farmland and headed to the Herb Garden.

After several days of Attuning, the Broomstick Grass was growing at about the same rate as ordinary weeds, but it no longer looked anything like a weed.

Setting aside the energy aura that swirled around it like that of a magical plant, its leaf veins had turned multicolored.

Moreover, each little witch’s Broomstick Grass had slightly different vein colors, matching the color distribution of their own energy aura exactly.

Alba, who had outstanding talent in light-element magic, had Broomstick Grass with leaf veins that were primarily a bright white. Mo Lan’s Broomstick Grass veins were similar to Sylph’s and Vasida’s—all multicolored.

According to 《A Guide to Cultivating Broomstick Grass》, this was because the continuous process of Attuning strengthened the bond between the Broomstick Grass and the little witch over time.

However, all these leaves would eventually be stripped away, leaving only the main stem and branches themselves.

In the end, everyone’s finished broomsticks would look much the same as ones made from ordinary weeds.

Placed among a cluster of brooms, even an ordinary person might not be able to tell which one was a broomstick capable of flight.

Of course, once decorated and processed with Alchemy Magic, they would look quite different again.

After thoroughly Attuning her Broomstick Grass from top to bottom, Mo Lan finally left.

She picked up ingredients at the Ingredient Collection Station, went to the Breadfruit Grove to pick Breadfruit, and floated the whole pile of things back to the Dormitory.

    Effortlessly. Without the slightest strain.

Mo Lan had never felt that fetching ingredients and picking Breadfruit could be so easy.

And floating everything along the way back hadn’t consumed much mana at all.

It saved time, and she didn’t have to exert herself.

The only downside was that she hadn’t yet perfected the Levitation Spell—casting it required fairly intense concentration to maintain the levitation state, so she couldn’t read while walking along the way.

At most she could spare a sliver of attention for walking, but reading or Attuning objects was out of the question.

Fortunately, without the burden of carrying anything, she could walk much faster, so it didn’t cost her much time.

Now that she’d learned the Levitation Spell, all that remained was further practice and raising her magic level.

That evening, Mo Lan continued reading 《Household Magic: Cleaning, Tidying, and Repair》.

She’d already learned the Cleaning spell from this book.

The Tidying spell and Repair spell were still left to learn.

Once she mastered these two spells, she would have completed all the magic that first-years were expected to study on their own.

Among the three great Household Magic spells—Cleaning, Tidying, and Repair—the Cleaning spell was for cleaning and sanitation, the Tidying spell was for organizing belongings, and the Repair spell was for fixing damaged household items.

With these three spells alone, a witch could keep her home in perfect order.

After finishing the remaining sections of the book, Mo Lan discovered that the casting methods for the Tidying spell and Repair spell were quite similar to the Cleaning spell she normally used for washing dishes.

When washing dishes, she converted her mana into water elemental force to clean—all she needed to do was remember what clean bowls, plates, and utensils looked like.

The difference was that the conversion to water elemental force was skipped entirely.

Neither the Tidying spell nor the Repair spell required converting mana or magical power.

The core lay in remembering an object’s original position and state, then using mana and magical power to restore and mend it.

For Mo Lan, this couldn’t have been simpler.

She finished the book at midnight. She mastered the Tidying spell and Repair spell at a quarter past twelve.
