Chapter 140 – Sewing Magic Class

More importantly, Senior Lilith had said that Sewing Magic class would only continue until all the young witches learned basic sewing.

The Sewing Magic portion would be left for the young witches to self-study outside of class.

After all, they already had the learning experience from Culinary Magic.

The Academy really took the concept of “letting go” to the extreme — only teaching what hadn’t been taught before, only covering introductory content and study methods.

As for the rest: self-study, self-study, and more self-study!

After selling the Sewing Tool Cards, Mo Lan went to the Academy Castle to watch Mo-Pics again.

Thinking about the Sewing Magic class that was about to start, she dug out the Mo-Pics from《The Witch’s Complete Sewing Compendium》 to watch.

She was very familiar with Earth’s fashion culture, but she knew very little about Valen’s fashion culture.

Aside from the Academy’s standard-issue school robes, Shana’s mother’s daily outfits, and Lady Amisha’s everyday attire, Mo Lan had only seen some clothing illustrations and production methods in 《Clothing Culture of the Continent of Valen》 and 《The Complete Guide to Fashion》.

They were all text with accompanying illustrations — still a long way from actually knowing how to make anything.

But after watching two Mo-Pic videos from 《The Witch’s Complete Sewing Compendium》, Mo Lan felt confident again.

She was brimming with confidence for the upcoming Sewing Magic class.

The Sewing Magic classroom was located in the Academy Castle.

The young witches finished their theory classes in the morning, took their midday rest at the Academy Castle for the first time in a long while, then continued on to the Sewing Magic classroom for their afternoon lesson.

The large, empty classroom contained nothing but desks and wooden chairs.

The young witches chose their seats, sat down, and then took everything out of their Sewing Tool Cards, arranging the tools on their desks to begin Attuning.

When Amisha arrived at the classroom and saw the sewing tools covering their desks, she asked, “Are those from cards?”

    The young witches nodded.

“Well then! That saves me the trouble of finding sewing tools for you.”

Amisha went straight to distributing fabric and thread to them. “In Sewing Magic class, we’ll be learning to make basic witch garments.

This includes the witch hat, witch outer robe, inner garment, trousers, shoes and socks, and undergarments.

As for the sample garments — you all have them already. They look just like the school robes. For different seasons, you simply switch to different fabrics.

Let’s start with underwear! It uses the least fabric and is the simplest to make! The textbook has detailed production steps — just follow those. All the fabric is right here. Give it a try on your own first!”

In Culinary Magic class, Mo Lan at least had Iris, who had prior cooking experience, for company.

In Sewing Magic class, Mo Lan was truly in a league of her own.

She didn’t even start sewing by hand. Instead, she used Sewing Magic to flatten the fabric, then began controlling the sewing tools to cut and sew.

Although she could only control one sewing tool at a time, her cutting movements were already like those of a veteran tailor — without a moment’s hesitation.

By the end of one class session, she had made them all: hat, outer robe, inner garment, trousers, hat, undergarments, shoes and socks.

“Isn’t this the basic witch outfit set? Earth doesn’t have witches, does it? How do you look like you’ve done this many times before — so practiced?” Vasida asked.

She couldn’t even sew a straight line yet!

“I learned from watching Mo-Pics,” Mo Lan said.

“…” Vasida looked at the spring school robe Mo Lan had sewn — virtually identical to the Academy-issued ones — then looked at her own fabric, which was still crooked and uneven despite the Headmistress’s guidance, with thread ends that had tangled into a mess at the slightest lapse of attention.

The gap between them was like heaven and earth.

“The Headmistress was absolutely right to have you watch Mo-Pic books! Your extraordinary memory combined with Mo-Pic books — your learning speed is just too fast!”

That point truly struck a chord with Mo Lan. Learning through Mo-Pics was perfectly suited to her taste.

Lady Amisha directly declared that she had graduated from Sewing Magic and no longer needed to attend Sewing Magic class.

Her afternoons were free again. While the other young witches attended Sewing Magic class, Mo Lan went to watch Mo-Pic books.

Meanwhile, the theory classes were also gradually reaching their end.

Magic Theory concluded on Wednesday, History of Witches concluded on Thursday, and Continental History concluded on Friday.

However, the conclusion of theory classes didn’t simply mean the end of lessons:

“Starting next week, Sewing Magic class will run both morning and afternoon! After Sewing Magic concludes, the theory final exams will take place.

All theory content from this entire academic year will be within the scope of the examination.

For the exams, anyone who scores above 95 in a subject will be rewarded with 3 Magic Gold Coins! That’s triple the usual amount!

Of course, anyone who scores below 70 will also be rewarded — with three specially tailored practice workbooks.”

Final exams were upon them, but the young witches, having already been through many monthly tests, were accustomed to it.

This time, the scope was simply broader, and the reward was triple!

As for the three practice workbooks as a “reward” — the young witches didn’t believe they’d score that poorly!

“Moira, theory classes are over too — doesn’t that mean starting tomorrow, you don’t have a single class to attend?” Sylph asked.

Mo Lan nodded. “I’m just waiting for the final exams.”

“With your memory, Moira, you must have memorized every word from the theory textbooks and practice workbooks, plus everything the Headmistress said during Q&A sessions, right? You have absolutely zero exam pressure! The final exams pose no challenge for you at all.

You’re truly on early vacation — I’m so jealous!”

Vasida said, “We have no idea how much longer we’ll be.”

These days, the first thing she thought about upon opening her eyes every morning was vacation.

“We still have to finish learning sewing before the course ends, but at this rate it should be soon!” Alba was much more optimistic.

“How far along are you all now?” Mo Lan asked curiously.

From the sound of it, the young witches’ sewing progress was also quite fast?

Based on her own experience, sewing was actually a bit harder than cooking.

“We’ve already learned underwear, undershirts, socks, and inner garments. Today we’ve started on trousers.

That just leaves the hat, outer robe, and shoes,” Alba said.

“That’s pretty fast!” Mo Lan said in surprise.

“It’s not that we’re learning fast — it’s that the Headmistress’s standards are low!” Iris said with a helpless expression.

“Huh? What do you mean?” Mo Lan asked, confused.

“For every piece of clothing, there’s only one requirement — it has to be wearable! One sock longer than the other? No problem. Crooked stitching on the undershirt? No problem. Thread ends sticking out on the inner garment? No problem. As long as you can put it on, Lady Amisha considers it a pass.

She said this is an introductory sewing course — the point is for everyone to learn how the simplest garments are made, understand the basic process and techniques of making clothes, and be able to make a few pieces to wear if you can’t buy any.

If you want to study Sewing Magic in depth, you can self-study from books. In the second and third years, there are also periodic advanced Sewing Magic elective courses available,” Iris said.

“The Headmistress is actually quite right. Most of us have our own areas of specialty and won’t study every type of magic in depth. For many things, learning the basics is enough,” Vasida said. “I don’t have much interest in sewing.”

She didn’t have much interest in beautiful clothes either.
