Chapter Index

    “Vasida! Sylph! Time for exams!”

Monday morning, Mo Lan stood outside the Dormitory shouting in both directions.

“Coming, coming!” Vasida came out yawning, and looking at Mo Lan whose dark circles were even heavier than her own, asked, “Did you not sleep well either? Were you studying?”

Mo Lan shook her head. “I really didn’t sleep well, but I wasn’t studying!”

She had already finished designing her Card Magic scheme—how could she possibly resist trying it out herself? Before she knew it, she’d stayed up all night.

Though she hadn’t slept at all, she wasn’t the least bit tired right now.

If not for today’s final exams and not wanting to affect her friends’ mental state beforehand, she would have loved nothing more than to shout that she’d successfully developed her Card Magic!

For now, she simply said, “Exams first! After the exams, I’ll tell you some super great news!”

“What super great news?” Sylph came out too.

She didn’t look like she was in great shape either—apparently she’d also stayed up late studying last night.

“It’s a secret! Exams first!” Mo Lan said mysteriously, her hand resting on her satchel.

Vasida and Sylph had their heads full of the upcoming final exams and didn’t press further.

On the way to school, the little witches flipped through their Grimoires and workbooks.

To make it convenient for submission to the Headmistress, the workbooks originally hadn’t been permanently transcribed into their Grimoires using the Transcription Spell. But during the review period, many of the little witches had used the Transcription Spell to copy them over for easy access.

The path was filled with the sounds of reciting and page-turning.

After a full academic year, every first-year little witch had mastered the skill of reading while walking.

However, they quickly discovered that flipping through books wasn’t as fast as asking Mo Lan.

Whatever they asked, she could answer instantly!

And so Mo Lan became their last-minute quiz machine for filling in knowledge gaps before the exam.

No matter how tall the Academy’s mountain was, there was always a top to reach.

After the little witches sat down in the classroom, their lips still couldn’t help murmuring the last few knowledge points they hadn’t fully memorized.

Amisha came in and, without wasting words, had them put away all their books. “Three subjects, two hours per exam. One in the morning, two in the afternoon. Now—the Fundamentals of Magic Theory exam begins!”

Test papers fluttered down in front of each little witch—long scrolls with considerably more questions than the usual monthly exams.

Halfway through the first exam, amid the scratching of quills as everyone wrote furiously, Mo Lan set down her pen, blew on her answer sheet, checked that she hadn’t filled in any wrong answers, then raised her hand and turned in her paper.

After turning in the exam, she could leave the classroom but wasn’t allowed to read books inside it.

Mo Lan thought for a moment and chose to catch up on sleep.

She spent the entire second half of the first exam sleeping facedown on her desk.

After the first exam, there was a half-hour lunch break. Once lunch was over, the second exam began, and Mo Lan turned in her paper early again.

While the other little witches were racking their brains for answers, she was practically copying answers straight from the knowledge stored in her memory, with instant recall—even faster than copying from a book!

Across all three exams, she spent the vast majority of the time sleeping.

Most of the little witches had stayed up half the night studying for today’s exams.

As they struggled to stay alert while writing their papers, an occasional glance in her direction was enough to jolt their weary minds awake.

Some people finished their papers and slept so soundly that drool glistened at the corners of their mouths, while others were still agonizing over which answer to pick. The irritation alone was enough to wake them right up.

After the exams ended, they waited about twenty minutes before all the results came out.

“Mo Lan—perfect scores in Fundamentals of Magic Theory, 《History of Witches》, and 《Continental History》. Reward: nine Magic Gold Coins!”

    “Mo Lan!”

Facedown on her desk, sleeping soundly, Mo Lan jolted awake, wiped the corner of her mouth, and looked a bit dazed. “The exams are over?”

“Perfect scores in all subjects. Come collect your reward!”

Mo Lan spotted the handful of glittering golden objects in Lady Amisha’s hand and immediately rushed up to the podium.

The results didn’t surprise her, but the Magic Gold Coins… what a fantastic bonus! Triple the reward compared to the usual monthly exams!

Taking the coins, Mo Lan counted them carefully. That’s right—nine!

She was now a wealthy little witch in possession of nineteen Red Gold Coins, ninety-nine Purple Gold Coins, and one hundred and thirty-eight Magic Gold Coins!

Only after Mo Lan’s results were announced did the other little witches start getting nervous.

After all, ever since exams began, everyone else’s results had their ups and downs—only Mo Lan seemed welded to the top spot with perfect scores.

By now, they all treated the announcement of Mo Lan’s results as the opening act before grades were revealed.

Second place was Cheryl again. She hadn’t managed perfect scores in every subject this time, but all her scores were above ninety-five, and she also received nine Magic Gold Coins as a reward.

The other little witches all scored above seventy-five in each subject, and half of them earned Magic Gold Coin rewards in at least one subject.

Those who didn’t earn rewards at least faced no penalties, and vacation was right around the corner! Those who did earn rewards got to enjoy the double happiness of Magic Gold Coins and the upcoming break.

“Alright! Final exams are over! The enrollment ceremony for the next academic year is on the evening of July 20th—make sure to attend on time.

“Don’t forget about your Broomstick Grass during vacation! Attune with it at least once a day!

“Also, starting in the second year, the Academy will no longer provide plant-based ingredients or ready-made clothing. You’ll need to use the break to prepare in advance for next year’s needs!

“Finally, don’t forget to read and study Magic during the break. I believe some little witches still haven’t learned all the spells from the first-year elective reading list. It would be best to learn them all over the break—the second year has its own coursework to tackle.

“Understood?” Amisha looked at the little witches whose minds had clearly already flown out of the classroom.

“Understood!” the little witches answered in unison.

    “Then—class dismissed!”

Lady Amisha, same as always, strode briskly out of the classroom, the hem of her black robe disappearing around the doorway.

The next moment, the classroom erupted in thunderous cheering.

    “Vacation! Hahaha!”

All the tension and drowsiness from the exams had vanished completely, replaced by nothing but relief and excitement.

Mo Lan took one look and thought—what perfect timing! This atmosphere was ideal for selling Magic. She immediately opened her satchel and pulled out a stack of papers.

“Come, come, come! Don’t miss out! Fresh off the press—Sorceress Magic! Take a look, have a peek! You can’t lose, you can’t go wrong…”

Amid all the cheering about exams being over and vacation starting, this hawking cry stood out as singularly distinctive, instantly capturing every little witch’s attention.

Before they could even ask, a sheet of paper had already been pressed into their hands.

Written on it in eye-catching, bright purple calligraphy were the words:

“Sorceress Moira’s One-and-Only Sorceress Magic—Card Magic—Academy Edition Beta Blowout Sale!
