    Chapter 203 – Magic Class

The afternoon magic class was to be held at the Magic Training Grounds.

On the way there, Vasida was still talking about how she didn’t know where the entrance to the Magic Training Grounds was. She’d wandered around the area before but couldn’t find it.

After flying above the Magic Training Grounds and seeing the skylights atop the indoor training ground’s tower and the Outdoor Training Ground spread out below, she finally understood: “So the entrance is in the sky!”

“Indoor Training Ground No. 1… it’s over there!” Sylph spotted the words on the tower’s banner and flew toward it first.

Mo Lan and Vasida followed close behind.

The three young Sorceresses flew through the skylight, and after passing through the skylight corridor, they entered the spacious training ground interior.

Some young witches had already arrived and were gathered around a pile of metal figures at the edge of the training ground, doing something or other.

“These are training dummies! Alchemical products—they can react to magic just like real people, helping us practice our spells.”

Mo Lan and the others looked up to see Lady Amisha.

The moment her feet touched the ground, the Academy’s bell began to ring—punctual as always.

“In the upcoming magic classes, we will be learning eighteen different schools of magic.

However, I want to make something clear: in this course, learning the magic itself is secondary. Understanding the characteristics of each school and its main and branch magics, and knowing how to choose the right magic—that is what matters most.

We will use these eighteen spells as examples to give everyone a taste of the differences between various schools of magic.

Today, we’ll be learning the Metal-element Sharpness Spell!

The Sharpness Spell belongs to the Metal-element branch under the Elemental Magic school.

Last year in Fundamentals of Magic Theory, we discussed how Elemental Magic is magic related to the elemental energies that constitute matter.

So then…” Amisha looked at the young witches. “…do you remember what elemental energy and material composition Metal-element magic is associated with?”

    “Metal elemental force!”

    “Metal!”

The young witches blurted out the answers, then looked stunned at themselves.

Amisha nodded with satisfaction. “It seems last year’s exam had good results! Metal is composed of metal elemental force, so all the properties of metal are also properties of metal elemental force—whether it’s ordinary metal or magical metal!

And Metal-element magic is the magic of metal elemental force.

The size of the golden halo in your energy aura represents your Metal-element magic talent.

The better your Metal-element talent, the more efficiently you convert magical power into metal elemental force, and the higher your Metal-element magic ceiling.

Your class doesn’t have any young witches with outstanding Metal-element talent, but you do have three young Sorceresses with unlimited All-Element Magic talent, and there are also several young witches with Intermediate Metal-element talent who may need to study Metal-element magic in depth later on.

If you’re selectively picking spells to learn from a particular elemental school, the most important thing to pay attention to is the dominant properties of that elemental force.

Although elemental force properties are diverse and complex, and each element’s magic has all sorts of abilities, magic related to an element’s dominant properties is still more powerful than magic related to its general properties.

For example, if you’re looking for magic with strong offensive power, Water-element and Wood-element aren’t the best choices—Fire-element and Metal-element are more suitable.

It’s not that Water and Wood lack powerful offensive spells, but because their most dominant properties aren’t in offensive power. Achieving strong offensive effects with them requires much higher standards.

Take metal elemental force, for instance. Its most dominant properties are sharpness and rigidity—both properties that favor offensive damage.

So Metal-element offensive magic is quite powerful.

The Sharpness Spell we’re learning today is a spell that showcases the universal metal elemental force property of ‘sharpness.’

This spell is a true classic.

It exists not only in Witch Magic, but similar spells can be found in human magic and dwarven magic as well. Speaking of dwarves—as you learned in 《Continental History》, dwarven Alchemy and forging techniques are the finest in Valen.

Alchemy Magic is a branch of Metal-element magic, and the dwarves’ research into Metal-element magic beyond Alchemy is also quite advanced.

However, their Metal-element magic tends to be similar to the Sharpness Spell—focused on using magic to enhance weapons for close combat.

Human Metal-element magic, on the other hand, is more similar to ours, primarily focused on ranged attacks.

The reason we chose the Sharpness Spell as your introductory Metal-element magic is precisely because the dwarven research direction is better suited for situations where magical power is insufficient and magic level is low.

The Sharpness Spell has the lowest casting cost and level requirement of all Metal-element spells.

Even if your Metal-element talent isn’t high, once you’ve learned this spell, it can still be quite useful.

When your magical power is critically low and you can no longer cast a powerful spell, you can use this spell to enchant a weapon you’re carrying with extra damage, add a bit of poison, and make a final counterattack.

Moreover, our witches’ Sharpness Spell has its own unique advantages.

The witch version of the Sharpness Spell applies a light degree of Alchemy and enchantment to the weapon with each use.

A single use doesn’t have much effect, but over months and years, it will definitely transform the weapon into a magical item.

And this enhancement has no upper limit. It relies purely on accumulation, and it works not only on ordinary weapons but on magical weapons as well.

Young witches who aren’t skilled in Alchemy, take note: the Sharpness Spell may be your easiest path to obtaining a magical weapon! Combined with Magic Infusion, you can also develop a flying blade technique, turning it into a ranged attack method.

Many Culinary Witches use this method to refine their kitchen knives into sharp magical weapons—serving as cooking tools and self-defense weapons at the same time…”

Unlike previous magic classes, Lady Amisha spoke at great length before they actually began attempting to cast the spell.

Just as she had said, the Sharpness Spell itself was merely a starting point to lead everyone into understanding Metal-element magic.

The Sharpness Spell was also more useful than the young witches had imagined. Even Mo Lan felt she had underestimated this spell before.

The young witches’ eyes were all shining: “I want to learn~”

Amisha shook her head with a smile. “Before learning the Sharpness Spell, first try the process of converting magical power into metal elemental force. Feel the metal elemental force, and be careful to control the amount—just 1 Mana will do!”

Converting Witch magical power into various forms of energy was practically instinctual. With a single thought from the young witches, golden metal elemental force gathered at their wand tips.

At close enough range, even without forming any spell, they could feel the sharpness, hardness, and lethal edge of this force.

They gained a vivid sense of metal elemental force’s dominant properties.

Everyone followed Lady Amisha’s instructions, using 1 Mana or the equivalent amount of magical power for the metal elemental force conversion.

But the resulting orbs of metal elemental force varied greatly in size.

The metal elemental force orbs at Mo Lan’s, Sylph’s, and Vasida’s wand tips were the largest, with almost no energy loss during the entire conversion process.

Nearly all of their 1 Mana had been converted into metal elemental force.

The other young witches’ orbs were significantly smaller than theirs.

The gap in talent was made tangible in that moment.

While the young witches were still comparing the sizes of their metal elemental force orbs, Lady Amisha produced a large assortment of weapons.

Daggers, curved blades, short swords, rapiers… all sorts, mostly small short-handled weapons, with daggers being the most common.

Then Lady Amisha selected an ordinary refined-iron dagger and demonstrated the difference in attack power before and after applying the Sharpness Spell.
