Chapter 329 – Breadfruit Card
by spirapiraChapter 329 – Breadfruit Card
“Great! We’ll definitely come check it out when the time comes!”
The three young witches said.
While the three of them were tending to their injuries, Mo Lan dug out a shelter and taught them the method for sealing the entrance.
“Let’s rest here for the night!”
It was already quite late, and Mo Lan had no intention of pressing on further today.
“Grumble~”
Anna and Annie instinctively clutched their stomachs, only to realize it wasn’t either of them.
Bertha smiled awkwardly. “That was me.”
“I haven’t had dinner yet either!” Mo Lan was feeling hungry too.
“Senior, could you help drag one of the cows from outside in here?” Anna asked.
“No problem!” Now that Mo Lan had the Lightning Shield Card, she wasn’t afraid of the thunderstorm outside.
She shifted the stone door aside and casually dragged a cow inside.
Fortunately, the cave’s interior had been carved out large enough—otherwise it wouldn’t have fit.
After the cow was dragged in, Mo Lan asked them, “What would you like to eat?”
“Senior, please just rest for a while! Our injuries have fully healed, so let us handle the cooking!” Anna said.
“Yes, yes!” Bertha and Annie pushed Mo Lan over to sit by the fire. “Just wait, senior! Anna’s Culinary Magic is really quite impressive!”
Mo Lan could tell they wanted a chance to show off, so she didn’t refuse. “Alright then, I’ll help by tending the fire and keeping the air circulating in here!”
Watching the three of them bustling about with such enthusiasm, Mo Lan felt transported back to the days when she, Sylph, and Vasida had explored the Inner Region together. She felt quite nostalgic.
What she hadn’t expected was that Anna was making an Earth dish—braised beef tendon! She even cooked rice to go with it.
Mo Lan had long since compiled a collection of Earth recipes and added them to the library.
It wasn’t surprising that Anna had learned to cook Earth cuisine. But anyone who has ever cooked knows the vast distance between a recipe and the finished product.
Yet Anna’s creation looked remarkably authentic. The beef tendon was golden and translucent, and the broth was rich with a deep savory aroma.
When it was time to eat, Mo Lan was the first to dig in.
Under Anna’s expectant gaze, Mo Lan nodded approvingly. “Soft and tender, perfectly cooked! The flavor isn’t quite what I expected, but it has its own unique charm. It’s really delicious!”
Anna’s face flushed with excitement. “Then please have more, senior!”
She and her sister both loved Earth cuisine.
Mo Lan wasn’t offering empty praise—it really was delicious, so having more was no hardship at all.
After eating her fill, she was in high spirits. Unfortunately, it was already getting late, and considering that her juniors still needed to venture deeper into the Greengrass Plains tomorrow, Mo Lan refrained from telling her signature atmosphere-livening Earth ghost stories.
Early the next morning, they each set off on their separate ways.
Anna, Annie, and Bertha headed south to continue exploring the Inner Region, while Mo Lan continued toward the core region.
Passing through the Hedge Wall and catching sight of the familiar Breadfruit Grove, Mo Lan found her steps halted once again.
She descended into the grove, planning to pick some Breadfruit and make Breadfruit Cake.
Breadfruit Cake truly was an essential provision—perfect for travel, for losing oneself in study, convenient to eat, and packed with nutrition.
Unfortunately, these trees simply wouldn’t survive anywhere else once transplanted. After graduation, she’d never be able to eat them again… Wait. Could she make a Breadfruit Card?
The Book of Cards could create all sorts of ingredient cards. Wasn’t Breadfruit just another ingredient?
To the Book of Cards, it was really no different from a tomato or a cucumber, right?
She had simply never thought of it before because Breadfruit had never been in short supply.
Mo Lan’s hand paused mid-reach for a Breadfruit. She redirected and fed the Breadfruit to the Book of Cards as a material instead.
After a moment, a card appeared in her hand. Breadfruit Card.
【Effect: Upon use, produces one Breadfruit. Consumption provides a strong sense of satiety and accelerates Mana recovery. Taste is slightly sour…】
It worked!
However, the crafting cost was considerably higher than an ordinary Food Card.
A single card containing just one Breadfruit required 3 Mana to produce.
The Breadfruit Card worked—but what about a Honey Bread Fruit Juice Card and a Breadfruit Cake Card?
In the blink of an eye, two new cards appeared in her hand. The only difference was in their crafting requirements.
This was wonderful—she wouldn’t have to worry about going without Breadfruit Cake after graduation.
Even though the crafting cost was a bit steep, she could well afford it.
Though really, when the time came, she wouldn’t need to limit herself to Breadfruit Cake. Other prepared food cards could be pulled out and eaten just as quickly.
If that was the case, what if she dug up an entire Breadfruit tree and fed it to the Book of Cards—could she create a Breadfruit Tree Card that would continuously bear fruit?
Even if the tree couldn’t be taken out and planted, it would be great if it could bear fruit inside the card!
She wondered if obtaining Breadfruit that way might be cheaper.
Mo Lan was never one to hesitate. She stopped picking Breadfruit and went searching for a sapling instead.
She quickly found one, dug it up, and fed it to the Book of Cards as material.
Then she swiftly pulled out the Book of Cards to design a card.
【Card Design: Breadfruit Tree Card】
—【Estimated Cost: Mana ***】
—【Estimated Appearance: Appearance Template 1】
—【Estimated Function: Periodically produces Breadfruit.】
—【Current Difficulty 1: Insufficient relevant knowledge and materials. Refinement requires supplementary knowledge and materials.】
“Looks like it won’t work,” Mo Lan thought.
But was it a lack of knowledge about cultivating Breadfruit, or a lack of knowledge about the environment in which Breadfruit grew?
To figure this out, she designed another card—an Apple Tree Card that would periodically produce apples.
The result showed the exact same difficulty.
She absolutely possessed the knowledge needed to cultivate apple trees.
So what was lacking was knowledge and materials related to the growing environment.
This was something Mo Lan could almost certainly never satisfy.
Breadfruit trees required the semi-planar environment of the Witch Academy. Unless she fed this entire plane to the Book of Cards as supplementary material, or possessed the ability to create the same type of plane, there was no solving this problem.
It seemed this card simply couldn’t be made.
But it wasn’t a big deal. At least she no longer had to worry about going without Breadfruit Cake after graduation!
The Breadfruit Cake Card was all well and good, but for now, Mo Lan still preferred to pick Breadfruit and make the cakes herself.
Free Breadfruit was naturally more appealing than spending Mana to create it!
Only after filling the backpack she carried with cakes did Mo Lan continue on toward the library.
In previous visits to the library, aside from the Mo-Pic books on the sixth floor, she hadn’t been able to copy or even open a single other book.
This time, there were no restrictions at all.
She had brought her Peak-level Grimoire with her.
In the entire library, aside from the Mo-Pic books which couldn’t be copied, Mo Lan could transcribe everything else into her own Grimoire and take it with her.
The Academy Library and the Witch Council Library always updated their collections simultaneously.
This meant Mo Lan could carry the entire collection of witch-kind’s accumulated knowledge with her at all times!
No book lover could possibly resist that kind of temptation.
