Chapter 354 – Processing Magic Crystals
by spirapiraZhizhi strode forward as Mo Lan flipped through the magical beast material cards in the Book of Cards.
She picked out a {Woodgrain Python Skin – Material Card}.
Woodgrain Python skin was warm, soft, yet sturdy, wear-resistant, and elastic. Even with Zhizhi’s tremendous hammer strikes, only the Woodgrain Python’s bones and flesh had been smashed—the skin was completely unscathed. It was perfect for making the body of a belt.
The key was that it was wide enough and long enough.
The auto-adjusting rune combination that resized to fit the wearer couldn’t conjure material from nothing. The so-called resizing merely shrank the corresponding item from a larger size.
So for this belt’s dimensions, Mo Lan couldn’t base it on Zhizhi’s shrunken form, nor could she base it on its current enlarged state.
She needed to make it as large as possible—the bigger the better.
That way, even if Zhizhi grew larger in the future, it could still wear it.
Only python skin could meet this requirement.
However, the snake skin still needed a bit of cutting and sewing. When Mo Lan rolled up the skin and held it against her chest, she couldn’t even wrap her arms around it all, with a portion draping over Zhizhi’s front.
She freed her hands, took out her Wand, and quickly used Sewing Magic to control needle and thread to do the work for her.
Sewing the base fabric was simple. The real challenge was processing those Ferocious Rat magic crystals, and then the process of inscribing Alchemy runes onto both the base fabric and the crystals.
The Ferocious Rat magic crystals, like their eyes, were scarlet red.
However, the energy flowing within them wasn’t fire elemental force, but the savage force of magical beasts.
Savage force was a type of energy that could stimulate the blood to temporarily unlock the body’s latent potential, with the side effect of clouding one’s rationality.
This kind of energy was inherently chaotic and disordered.
In magical beasts, this characteristic was even more pronounced.
Magic crystals containing a magical beast’s savage force were also among the most difficult types of magic crystals to process.
Because they were difficult to process, and once processed, they could mostly only be used by warriors, swordsmen, and other non-casters to create magical items that unlocked physical potential and temporarily enhanced combat ability.
Valen was a world of Magic. Although the influx of other-world cultures had introduced some non-caster professions focused on developing physical potential, these kinds of extraordinary individuals were generally poor.
So typically, magic crystals containing a magical beast’s savage force were much cheaper on the market than other crystals containing elemental beast energy.
But for an Alchemy Witch, the limitation of a magic crystal’s energy attribute didn’t exist.
Because Alchemy Witches didn’t process the chaotic energy in magic crystals by combing through it with psychic power the way human alchemists did.
What witches used was the Energy Conversion technique from Alchemy Magic.
This was a Human Body Alchemy Magic derived from witch Alchemy runes.
By inscribing energy conversion runes on one’s fingertips, it achieved the effect of converting the energy within magical materials into another type of energy that the caster had mastered.
To learn this Magic, not only did one’s Alchemy Magic talent need to be sufficiently high, but one also needed to master the ability to inscribe runes directly with Mana.
Most importantly, one’s affinity with at least one type of Elemental Magic energy had to reach Peak level or above.
In other words, one needed at least one magical talent at Peak level or above to convert the energy in magical materials into an energy type one had extremely high affinity with.
Mo Lan met the learning requirements for the Energy Conversion technique and had studied it before, but after leaving the core region, she hadn’t had suitable materials to practice with, so she had remained at the Apprentice level.
With her mastery of All-Element Magic talent, she could theoretically convert energy in magical materials into the ten elemental forces, power of life, death force, power of fate, spatial power, psychic power, and various other types of energy.
However, the material composition of the magical materials themselves also affected the final conversion result.
Energy within magic crystals, magical crystals, and magical gemstones was the most convenient to convert.
Most other magical materials couldn’t bear different types of energy. Even magic crystals, magical crystals, and magical gemstones could mostly only hold other elemental forces.
The other energies she had high affinity with—such as power of life, death force, power of fate, and spatial power—were too special, and most materials couldn’t contain them.
So for these magic crystals containing a magical beast’s savage force, she could only convert their energy into one of the ten elemental forces, turning them into stable elemental magic crystals.
Functionally, they could substitute for elemental magic gemstones.
Fortunately, most of the functions Mo Lan needed for Zhizhi’s multi-functional magic belt were Elemental Magic anyway, so converting some elemental magic gemstones would be more than sufficient.
Mo Lan considered the functions she wanted to add.
Cleaning and drying were musts, so water-element magic crystals and fire-element magic crystals had to be prepared.
Warming and cooling functions were also needed—useful in case they traveled to places with extreme temperatures.
This required not only fire-element magic crystals but also ice-element magic crystals.
Then she needed to fix a Path Clearing spell, so wood-element magic crystals were essential too.
Although Zhizhi had spatial teleportation abilities, spatial power was costly to use. For regular travel, if it could be avoided, it should be, so she also needed to give it an acceleration effect.
A Featherfall spell had to be fixed onto it as well, to prevent danger if Zhizhi fell from a great height while out of spatial power.
Zhizhi’s spatial defense ability could only negate ninety percent of an attack, with the remaining ten percent to be endured on its own. With this many magic crystals and such a large belt, she might as well fix several sustained and instant defense spells onto it.
This would require earth-element, metal-element, and wood-element magic crystals.
Looking at it this way, only lightning-element, light-element, and dark-element crystals weren’t needed.
Wait—she should add an illumination function too!
Zhizhi’s eyes couldn’t see in the dark either. She wondered if Senior Lilith’s Blood Magic could be applied to Zhizhi as well.
Oh right, she should also fix an Invisibility spell! If Zhizhi encountered an enemy it couldn’t beat, it could use Invisibility first, then shrink down and escape. The enemy would never expect it.
Invisibility could also be used to protect itself while drinking to recover.
Dark-element crystals were indispensable after all.
All ten elemental crystals were accounted for now, with only lightning-element remaining. Might as well add a function for lightning too!
Fixing an Electric Net spell would be great. If they encountered magical beasts like Ferocious Rats again in the future, Zhizhi could stun them first, then hammer away.
No more scrambling when Zhizhi was outnumbered.
With all ten elemental crystals assigned, Mo Lan finally felt satisfied.
Next came processing these Ferocious Rat magic crystals according to the functions she’d designed.
Every single one needed to be converted using the Energy Conversion technique.
Using Apprentice-level Energy Conversion to process mostly Beginner-level magic crystals—and ones containing the most chaotic savage force of magical beasts at that—the efficiency and success rate were, at first, absolutely painful to watch.
She ruined several crystals in a row.
But since she’d obtained so many magic crystals this time, Mo Lan didn’t mind the waste.
Even if she ran out of Ferocious Rat magic crystals later, she could produce a whole batch in no time using the Book of Cards.
What mattered wasn’t the loss of magic crystals, but the improvement in her Alchemy Magic and Energy Conversion technique through this process.
