Chapter 373 – Independence Day
by spirapiraOn Independence Day morning, the young witches were busier than ever.
Even Vasida and Sylph had gone to the library to transcribe books.
Mo Lan sat alone on a flying carpet and flew out of the castle, taking a tour around the Academy Core Area before gazing down from above at the Academy where she had lived for five years.
After returning to the library, Mo Lan wanted to check on the books she had written over the past few years, so she headed toward a bookshelf on the left side of the second floor.
That section held all the books related to Earth.
Rounding a bookshelf, Mo Lan exclaimed in surprise, “Sylph? Vasida? Alba? Iris? Cheryl? You’re all here transcribing Earth books together?”
“Um… yeah!” Vasida said with an awkward laugh.
Sylph hurriedly tried to hide the book she was transcribing, which was pressed beneath her Grimoire.
Iris and the other two also looked at Mo Lan with somewhat uneasy expressions.
“Keep transcribing!” Mo Lan said. “Why are you all staring at me?”
As she spoke, she glanced at the bookshelf. The shelf the girls were facing held Volume One and Volume Two oferta《Earthly Ghost Stories and Legends》.
The spot for Volume Three was empty.
Looking again at the book beneath Sylph’s Grimoire, its cover matched the other two volumes oferta《Earthly Ghost Stories and Legends》.
Now Mo Lan understood everything. “So that’s how it is! Last night you all refused to listen to my ghost stories no matter what, yet here you are transcribing《Earthly Ghost Stories and Legends》? Is reading more thrilling than listening to me tell them?”
The faces of all five young witches—Sylph, Vasida, and the rest—darkened.
“I get it! This is what they call ‘terrible at it but loves playing anyway’! Take your time transcribing—I’m leaving!” Mo Lan finished speaking and slipped away before they could erupt.
“…”
“Mo Lan caught us. Should we keep transcribing?” Iris asked.
“I’m done!” Sylph turned and walked away.
She had already finished transcribing.
“I’m done too.” Vasida also left.
“There are so many magic books we haven’t transcribed, and we’re wasting paper on this! Let’s all go, let’s all go! Before Moira comes back to laugh at us again.”
Alba urged the others to leave together.
Yet she walked slower and slower, successfully falling behind the group. She doubled back and snatched the book off the shelf at lightning speed, pressing it against her own Grimoire.
Vasida, who had circled around to the other side of the bookshelf and come back: “…”
“Where were the math books again? They should be around here, right?”
Vasida turned around to see it was Cheryl. “Stop pretending—the math books aren’t even on these shelves!”
Cheryl shook her head at her. “I’m pretty sure they’re right here!”
She peeked at the shelf ahead. “See! There they are!”
Alba’s figure disappeared around the end of the bookshelf.
Cheryl took three steps in two strides, swiftly pulling the three volumes off the shelf. “Found the math books!”
Vasida stared at the words《Earthly Ghost Stories and Legends》on the spines and had an epiphany. “Oh, so there are math books here too! Cheryl, you transcribe first—when you’re done, I’ll make a copy too.”
Iris, who had walked out of the library but still felt an unbearable itch and had secretly snuck back: “…”
So everyone wanted to read them after all!
She instantly felt completely justified.
*
After Mo Lan returned to the lounge, she was still cracking up.
She had thought ghost stories were unpopular!
Now it seemed the young witches were simply too dishonest with themselves!
Since that was the case, she could go ahead and arrange {Earth Reading Card}, {Earth Movie Card}, {Earth Music Card}, and {Earth Game Card} as well. Design, create, and list them—all in one go.
When Card Magic contractors opened the card shop, they saw a notification for newly listed cards.
“Entertainment cards listed with a limited-time special offer of 1 Gem Coin each?”
Alba bought an {Earth Reading Card} out of curiosity, and then: “Moira! Why does reading the novels in here cost Gem Coins after just a little bit?!”
“Dear Lady Alba, what you purchased is merely the reading card itself. The vast library of novels within still requires paid purchases to continue reading after the free trial ends!” Mo Lan offered a friendly reminder. “It’s all written right on the card!”
The reason she sold the card so cheaply was, of course, because compared to selling the card itself at a high price, there were far more profitable things inside!
“…” Alba clutched her chest in dismay. “So the 1-Gem-Coin spending trap is back again, is that it?”
Mo Lan smiled and said, “The {Reading Card} has ghost stories inside! And don’t miss the {Movie Card} either—it has horror films!”
Alba left guiltily, went to drink a large glass of Breadfruit juice, then purchased new chapters and kept reading.
Mo Lan looked at the card-crafting energy income breakdown in her Book of Cards and smiled with satisfaction.
She knew it—the young witches were all dishonest with themselves!
Entertainment cards were perfectly suited for people with long lifespans.
Without needing Madam Amisha to remind her, Mo Lan had automatically set a restriction preventing underage young witches from purchasing these cards.
Underage young witches already didn’t have enough hours in the day. It was best they used entertainment cards as sparingly as possible.
Mo Lan finally flipped through her pre-graduation to-do list.

“Hm?” There really was one thing she had forgotten to do.
She still hadn’t cultivated Sylph’s Burrowing Mushroom.
Combining the Spatial Tent with a Burrowing Mushroom was the safest method for camping in the wild.
Speaking of which, had Sylph figured out the planting magic for Burrowing Mushrooms?
When Sylph came back, Mo Lan asked her.
Sylph opened her Grimoire to show her. On it was the latest version of《Hybrid Magic》.
Mo Lan simply used the Transcription Spell to update the copy of《Hybrid Magic》in her own Grimoire, then looked at the newly added content.
“Hybrid Magic No. 3?”
“With more and more mutant plants, it became hard to categorize and name them. So I just changed the naming scheme for the previous mutant crop and mutant fruit planting magic to a numbering system. Mutant crops are No. 1, mutant fruits are No. 2, and the newly released one is No. 3 mutant planting magic—Hybrid Magic No. 3 for short.”
Mo Lan updated the new designation for Sylph’s Sorceress Magic in the magic column of her {Status Card} while saying, “Hybrid Magic sounds way more impressive than before.”
“Right?!” Sylph said. “Bi’er actually helped me come up with that name!”
“Actually, you don’t need to buy Hybrid Magic No. 3. It’s the same magic for growing Screaming Wind Chime Flowers that was sold to you all at a discount before. Now that it’s publicly available for sale, it got a new name. Burrowing Mushrooms fall within this magic’s cultivation range too.”
Mo Lan checked and sure enough it was. “Then I just saved myself some Mana!”
The information for this magic had also been updated in her own Sorceress Magic column.
Sylph had many types of Hybrid Magic, but they had no level distinctions—once learned, they were already at Peak level.
Mo Lan continued reading about the mutant plants covered by Hybrid Magic No. 3. Besides Screaming Wind Chime Flowers and Burrowing Mushrooms, there were also Drifting Tea Tree leaves, Featherfall Blueberries, and other mutant plants.
