Chapter 378 – Spring Sight Island

“Senior! What’s going on? Where are we?!”

The newly graduated witches all crowded around.

Unlike at the Academy, they didn’t have any campus maps to consult now—everyone was completely bewildered!

“Ahem, don’t call me ‘senior’ anymore—we’ve all graduated.” Lilith lifted her chin slightly and said with utmost seriousness, “Please address me as Madam Lilith!”

    The witches: “…”

What to do—they really wanted to smack her!

Under the witches’ dangerous gazes, Lilith backtracked: “Or just call me Lilith.”

“Hurry up and explain!” Vasida cracked her knuckles. “I made sure to eat my fill before leaving school!”

“Oh, don’t be so impatient!” Lilith looked toward the lively bonfire market on the other side.

Iris gazed out at the distant bonfires and suddenly said, “I know! Is this Spring Sight Island—the place only adult witches can visit? When I was little, every year on Independence Day, my mom would come here at night and never take me with her.”

Iris’s words stirred long-buried memories among the witches.

“Now I remember! My mom would sometimes go out alone around Independence Day too, and when she came back, there’d be new corpse materials at home!” Vasida said.

“My mom also had a fixed time every year when she’d head out with her cultivated magical plants—I think it was also around Independence Day?” Sylph said, sounding a bit uncertain.

“I just spotted a familiar figure in the crowd—could that be my mom?!” Cheryl couldn’t help glancing toward the bonfires, wanting to see if it really was her.

“That’s right!” Lilith said. “This is the island at the center of Spring Sight Lake in Witch’s Town.

Spring Sight Island is a necessary waypoint on the path to the Witch Council, and it’s the only place in the entire town that’s exclusively open to adult witches.

Every year on Independence Day evening, many witches gather here to light bonfires and celebrate.

Culinary Witches debut new creations on this day, Sewing Witches showcase their latest designs, Potion Witches and Alchemy Witches bring out their stockpiled potions and magical items to sell, and witches returning from beyond the Wilds share their travel experiences by the bonfire…”

“Of course, ‘welcoming’ the newest batch of graduates is also one of tonight’s traditions,” Lilith added with barely suppressed laughter.

    “…”

Once the witches realized their mothers were very likely here too, none of them could stand still any longer.

They grabbed their luggage and rushed toward the bonfires.

Even Vasida and Sylph were no exception—they strongly suspected the reason their mothers told them not to come home was because they were all on this island today!

“Moira, seni—… Lilith, let’s meet up later by the biggest bonfire!”

And with that, they dashed off into the bonfire market to find their mothers.

On the cushion grass meadow, only Mo Lan and Lilith remained.

“Moira, aren’t you going to go look?” Lilith asked.

“My mom only left for a human kingdom less than a year ago. She’s definitely not here,” Mo Lan said.

Besides, Mama Shana was so young, and young meant poor.

In previous years on Independence Day, she had never once seen her leave their little cottage in Emerald Creek Plains—she hadn’t even brought her to Witch’s Town.

“Then let’s go together! I’ll show you around Spring Sight Island and the bonfire market,” Lilith said.

    “Senior…” Mo Lan began.

    “Hmm?” Lilith responded.

Mo Lan awkwardly corrected herself: “Lilith, isn’t your mother coming? Spring Sight Island and the bonfire market were briefly mentioned in 《A Witch’s Guide to Living in the Wilds》. I’ll be fine exploring on my own.”

She remembered that her senior’s mother was a Red Witch who had already established a witch’s homestead in the Sea of Roses on the eastern side of the Wilds—she should be out in the Wilds.

“My mom came just last year, so she’s not coming this year.

Last year, the biggest bonfire here was made by my mom.

But all she knows how to do is play with fire—the attention the bonfire attracted didn’t convert into any profit at all. So I recommended 《Guide on Earth Business Strategies》 to her.

In the end, that big bonfire worked out in my favor—I used it to showcase my Vampire Blood Magic, and lots of witches who’d just returned from beyond the Wilds bought some. Hehe~

Unfortunately, over the following year, hardly any new witches came back to Witch’s Town, so my Mana growth has been entirely from natural accumulation.

At least blood cards are consumables, so sales have been pretty steady.”

As Lilith spoke, she tried to drape her arm around Mo Lan’s shoulders, only to discover that Mo Lan was now nearly as tall as she was—it was actually a bit of a stretch. She switched to linking their arms instead.

“You’ve grown so much taller since I last saw you!”

“It’s been almost two years since we last met,” Mo Lan said. “The last time was back in Wild Boar Valley!”

“Has it really been two years already!” Lilith said. “You really do grow faster before eighteen! I’ve barely grown at all this past year.”

Mo Lan was about to gesture to compare their heights when the little monkey, who had been hiding in her satchel since earlier, suddenly poked its head out, sniffed the air, and stared fixedly in the direction of one particular bonfire.

From that bonfire, a rich aroma of wine drifted over.

Lilith saw this and smiled: “That’s Madam Aeltis’s stall. She’s a Culinary Witch who specializes in brewing.

Among witches today, she’s probably the most accomplished when it comes to winemaking—and she’s a rare Beyond Peak witch that you don’t often get to see!

The only tavern in town, Du Kang’s Wine House, is hers.

I hear she frequently goes to the Well of the Sky to gather brewing ingredients. Most of the time, the tavern is looked after by her familiar.”

“Du Kang’s Wine House?” Mo Lan murmured the name. “That doesn’t seem like the typical naming convention for witches.”

“It’s probably because the house specialty is called Du Kang Wine, so she named the tavern after it!

If Madam Aeltis is here, she’s definitely got a new brew. Come on—my treat for you and Zhizhi!”

Lilith pulled her toward the stall as she spoke.

Aeltis’s bonfire was small—compared to the other witches’ bonfires, it looked rather unremarkable. But anyone who loved their drink would notice it immediately, because it radiated a rich, intoxicating aroma of wine.

Only when she drew closer did Mo Lan realize the fragrance was coming from a copper kettle hanging over the bonfire. Whatever wine was being warmed inside, its aroma was so intense—no wonder Zhizhi couldn’t take her eyes off it.

“Madam Aeltis, what wine is this? It smells even better than Du Kang Wine!” Lilith pulled Mo Lan down to sit beside the bonfire.

“This is a new wine I’ve brewed. The way you drink it is a bit special—would you like to try some?” Aeltis waved her wine glass under Lilith’s and Mo Lan’s noses, not forgetting Zhizhi, whose little head was poking out of Mo Lan’s satchel.

Two witches and one monkey were instantly intoxicated by the aroma they’d just caught.

The fragrance was the same as what wafted from the copper kettle over the bonfire, but far more intense, far more mellow—a single shallow whiff and it felt as though your entire body were submerged in rich, velvety wine.
