Chapter 399 – Beyond Peak Level
by spirapiraMo Lan, Vasida, and Sylph had all broken through five thousand Mana in mana capacity. In terms of mana volume, they were already at Peak level, qualifying them to enter the seventh floor of the main castle.
Hearing what Lilith said, they headed straight for the main castle.
The main castle was, as Lilith had described, essentially one enormous library.
Halls large and small were filled to the brim with bookshelves, each one stretching all the way up to the ceiling.
The occasional witch they spotted searching for books was riding a broom, weaving between the towering shelves.
Mo Lan casually glanced through the shelves in the nearest small hall on the first floor and immediately spotted many books written in foreign-race languages—none of which she had ever seen in the Academy Library. She couldn’t help but exclaim:
“The Witch Council’s collection is so much larger than the Academy’s!”
“Of course it is! We witches may be few in number, but every one of us travels far and wide in our youth. Books collected during those journeys are all submitted to the Witch Council, and over time, the collection naturally grew enormous.”
Lilith said with a touch of pride, “But there are too many books, and the Witch Council doesn’t have many witch scholars who are proficient in foreign-language translation and book compilation. So a lot of these books have only been given basic preservation treatment and placed here as-is.
Unlike the Witch Academy Library, where every book has been reorganized and compiled by witch scholars, with the Transcription Spell added.
Every piece of content in those books has undergone rigorous screening and verification—the information is authentic, reliable, dense, and effective.
Those are the books truly worth studying carefully.”
“Huh? Doesn’t the Witch Council Library have those books?” Vasida and Sylph asked.
Back then, they hadn’t had parchment, and there was still a large portion of the Academy Library’s books they hadn’t transcribed yet!
“Don’t worry, every book the Academy has, we have here too—plus books the Academy doesn’t have! The main halls on the first and second floors have some of them, and the content is exactly the same.
They just don’t have the Transcription Spell attached, so you’ll have to transcribe them yourself,” Lilith said.
Sylph and Vasida breathed a sigh of relief at that.
“Senior! Where are the stairs?” Mo Lan asked.
“Right! Let’s go check the seventh floor first for books on Beyond Peak level!” Sylph said.
“And the Magical Feast magic books!” Vasida added.
“The Magical Feast falls under Beyond Peak level foreign-race magic donated by witches—that should be on the castle’s eighth floor. Follow me!”
Lilith pulled out her broomstick and mounted it. “No racing brooms inside the Witch Council—let’s keep it slow!”
Mo Lan and the others also took out their broomsticks.
Following Lilith, they first flew out through the main castle’s entrance, then made their way upward toward the higher floors.
Only then did they notice that the windows and windowsills on every floor of the castle were exceptionally large. Rather than calling them windows and sills, it would be more accurate to call them landing pads for broomsticks.
“Seventh floor! We’re here!” Lilith spotted the ornate Witch Script numerals on the window and flew inside on her broom.
“See! These, these, and all of these—they’re all relevant!”
After saying this, Lilith flew up to the top of a bookshelf. This entire floor was stocked with copies of the same book, with many identical transcriptions:
“But I’d suggest you focus on this one. It’s a work by Lady Traci—much more accessible and easy to understand.”
Mo Lan flew over, hovering beside the shelf, and pulled out the book Lilith had indicated. “《Beyond the World’s Starting Point》?”
“That’s the one,” Lilith said. “Go ahead and read. I’m going to transcribe some books I’m interested in.
Is a week enough? Same time, one week from now, we’ll meet outside the main castle entrance—sound good?”
“Sounds good,” all three of them said.
After Lilith left, Vasida and Sylph immediately used the Transcription Spell to copy 《Beyond the World’s Starting Point》, but they didn’t rush to read it. Instead, they continued searching for other books to transcribe.
Mo Lan, on the other hand, wasn’t in a hurry to transcribe other books. According to Lilith, the Academy Library’s books were the real treasures—only Beyond Peak level books couldn’t be found there. She only needed to transcribe the Beyond Peak level books.
The Beyond Peak level books were far fewer than the rest, occupying only these two floors—the seventh and the eighth.
The seventh floor held theory books, while the eighth floor held magic books.
Theory books generally outnumbered magic books.
But even so, all the books on the seventh floor combined didn’t amount to as many as those in a single small hall on the first floor.
There was only one large bookshelf pressed against the wall, and many of the books inside—like 《Beyond the World’s Starting Point》—had multiple transcribed copies.
The number of truly unique volumes was even smaller.
Even without the Transcription Spell attached to the books, one week should be more than enough time for her to transcribe everything.
Right now, Mo Lan was more curious about what this book actually said.
She switched her broomstick to its more comfortable flying carpet form, and began reading the book right there.
“At the end of the Divine Descent Era, the Well of the Sky appeared. Peak level powerhouses of every race, guided by the world consciousness, traveled to the Well of the Sky. After successfully breaking through Peak level there, it became known to all that Peak level was merely the starting point for transcending the world.
From then on, the battleground of the races’ strongest shifted from Valen to the Well of the Sky, and the Continent of Valen thus entered the relatively peaceful Magic Era…”
The book wasn’t thick, and just as Lilith had said, it was very accessible and easy to understand. Written almost like a story, it laid out the full history with perfect clarity.
Peak level had been the highest rank on the Continent of Valen before the Well of the Sky appeared.
Whether Angel, Demon, Dragon, Sorceress, or mage—no matter how powerful, no one’s energy tier could break through Peak level.
In other words, the maximum total energy one could command was 9,999 Mana, or its equivalent in other forms of energy.
The powerhouses of every race who were stuck at 9,999 Mana received an invitation from the world consciousness the moment the Well of the Sky descended, and they journeyed there.
Not every powerhouse who went to the Well of the Sky returned, but those who did had all broken through Peak level.
The term “Beyond Peak level” was born from this.
Strictly speaking, Beyond Peak level was not a single rank, but rather a collective term for all ranks above Peak level.
To those who had surpassed Peak level, Peak and everything below it—Apprentice, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Peak—also had a collective name: “unranked.”
Only when one’s total energy broke through 9,999 Mana and reached the threshold of 10,000 Mana could one be considered a true First Tier powerhouse.
After that, each major breakthrough in total energy counted as advancing one tier.
Ten thousand Mana was First Tier.
One hundred thousand Mana was Second Tier.
One million Mana was Third Tier.
Ten million Mana was Fourth Tier.
And so on.
From the moment one entered the tiers, living beings gained the ability to alter the constraints of their physical bodies. Lifespan, bloodline, innate talent, race—everything that had been predetermined at birth became something that could be improved and changed through effort.
One could say that entering the tiers was the true starting point for living beings to transcend the world and transcend themselves.
