Chapter 48 – The Automatic Juicer
by spirapiraThe young witches exited the castle from the east side.
Today, the skies above the central mountain range where the castle stood seemed especially lively.
Young witches on broomsticks circled through the air, whooshed past, hung upside down in daring maneuvers, or dove from great heights, drawing waves of excited shrieks.
“That’s… Senior Quilin!” Iris pointed at a young witch sitting side-saddle on her broom.
Since they lived near each other and she was also a witch interested in gourmet food and cooking, they were fairly well acquainted and recognized her at a glance.
Mo Lan and the others also spotted Senior Lilith, who was performing all sorts of dangerous diving and sharp-turning maneuvers, having the time of her life.
“The seniors learned to fly that quickly?” Sylph said.
“Sigh! From now on, we’ll really be the only ones walking to the castle,” Vasida said, green with envy.
“Hey! Class is over!” Lilith spotted them and descended a little. “Check out my broom—cool, right?!”
The young witches nodded like baby chicks pecking at rice.
Though the broom looked like nothing more than a stick with some weeds tied to it—hardly what you’d call good-looking—it could fly! That alone made it incredibly cool!
“Hahaha!” Lilith laughed heartily. “I’m going to fly a few more laps!”
After a while, the third-year seniors joined in as well.
The seniors flew through the sky above while the first-year young witches walked on the ground below—participating in the seniors’ excitement with their eyes, at least.
Watching how excited the seniors were today, Mo Lan knew her card sales among the second-years wouldn’t be great today.
After descending the mountain, they took their usual detour to the Ingredient Collection Station, stocking up on more ingredients for making Breadfruit Cake and breadfruit juice.
When Mo Lan saw that entire library’s worth of books, tonight’s main project shifted from breadfruit juice to Breadfruit Cake.
She planned to make a larger batch of the long-lasting Breadfruit Cake.
It was very filling to eat. Cut into small pieces, one bite per piece, and in less than a minute you could finish an entire meal.
It was truly the essential convenience food for any study session.
Mo Lan carried the heavy basket, panting and stopping to rest every ten steps. Every time she found herself in this situation, she was filled with longing for the Levitation Spell and spatial storage items.
Before, all she could do was daydream about them. But now, she could actually look into whether she could make cards like that.
This was what it meant for inspiration to come from daily life.
Driven by the urge to design a spatial card, Mo Lan picked up her pace.
After returning to the dormitory to drop off her things, she made several more trips to the Breadfruit Grove, picking back a huge pile of Breadfruit that filled up the storage room.
With all the ingredients prepared, Mo Lan summoned the Book of Cards.
Opening the Book of Cards, the first page displayed the {Book of Cards} card itself, with a small number “1” in the bottom-right corner.
This represented the quantity of this card she had created.
The number beneath the second page’s {Status Card – Apprentice} was “60.”
Both the Earth Chinese-version cards and the Witch Script-version cards could be found here.
If the cover of the Book of Cards was for storing energy and creating cards, then the interior pages served as a compendium for organizing cards, recording information, and looking up card details.
She had designed and created two types of cards, so she could only open the first two pages. The rest remained like bricks—impossible to open.
Mo Lan took out the {Book of Cards} card and used its “Card Design” function to begin designing a new card.
【Card Design: hand-crank juicer】
【Estimated Cost: 0.01 Mana】
【Estimated Appearance: Appearance Template 1】
【Estimated Function: Turn the hand-crank handle to extract juice, separating juice from pulp】
This was the idea she’d had last night—the functionality was identical to the hand-crank juicers from her Earth memories.
She hadn’t expected the energy cost to make one to be only 0.01 Mana.
For the first time, Mo Lan felt that Magic Power was incredibly efficient. With just 1 Mana, she could make 100 hand-crank juicers.
This emboldened her considerably.
Why settle for a hand-crank juicer when an automatic juicer would be so much better?
She redesigned it.
【Card Design: automatic juicer – 1 Mana Card Rechargeable Version】
【Estimated Cost: 0.4 Mana】
【Estimated Appearance: Appearance Template 1】
【Estimated Function: Automatically extracts juice, separating juice from pulp. After use, can be returned to card form for recharging. Card can store up to 1 Mana or an equivalent amount of other energy as its power source.】
This recharging method was an idea Mo Lan had gotten from the books in the library.
The cost was forty times higher, but for Mo Lan, that was pocket change.
But she wasn’t done yet. She also tested a directly-charged version of the juicer.
As well as versions storing 1 Mana, 2 Mana, and 5 Mana, plus retrievable-and-reusable card versions and non-retrievable-after-use versions.
The directly-charged, 1 Mana, non-retrievable automatic juicer cards were the cheapest—only 0.2 Mana to make one.
She immediately loaded the automatic juicer design template into a Slot.
Without any difficulty, she created 2 copies of {automatic juicer – Card Storage Rechargeable 2 Mana Capacity Version}.
Each one cost 0.5 Mana, which used up the last 1 Mana of energy in the Purple Gemstone perfectly.
Two juicers, ready to go!
Mo Lan took one out to test it. It could completely replace the juicing process, and it was incredibly fast.
Before, making a pot of breadfruit juice required hours of mashing. Now it only took a few minutes.
Something this good—how could she not share it with her friends?
Other young witches might not know about breadfruit juice and might not need one, but Senior Lilith and the others could definitely use it.
Every little bit counts!
Mo Lan opened her dormitory door and called out toward the front and to both sides: “Senior Lilith~ Sylph~ Vasida~”
The doors to the left and right dormitories opened, and Sylph and Vasida came out.
The window of the dormitory in front opened, and a red-haired head popped out.
With everyone present, Mo Lan announced: “I made too much juice! Want some?”
They all knew exactly what kind of juice she was talking about.
Lilith, whose Magic Power was down to double digits, didn’t hesitate for a second and climbed right out the window.
Vasida and Sylph came over too.
“Moira, you only just got back to the dormitory not long ago, and you’ve already made the juice?” Vasida had only just finished cutting her Breadfruit and started mashing it!
“Of course—it’s all thanks to the new card I made,” Mo Lan said.
“Wow! You made another new card? One that makes juice quickly? Are you selling them?” Sylph’s eyes lit up.
She needed breadfruit juice too, but she couldn’t stand the process of mashing Breadfruit. Given the time and effort, she’d rather go to the fields to chat with Bi’er or check on the Wind Chime Flower that still hadn’t sprouted in her flowerpot.
“Of course I’m selling them!” Mo Lan said.
Vasida’s face was full of anticipation too. Only Lilith, upon hearing that new cards were for sale, immediately pulled back the leg she’d swung over the backyard fence:
“I just remembered—I didn’t put my Broomstick away properly. Let me go check on it!”
Mo Lan noticed the senior trying to slip away and called out loudly: “Starting at a super-low price of just 0.05 Mana!”
Lilith swung her retracted leg back out again: “Oh wait, I was wrong. My Broomstick is put away just fine.”
