Chapter 491 – I Know What It Is!
by spirapiraBack in the carriage, Lilith set down the food she had bought and declared with absolute certainty:
“I’ve made friends with her! Once she claims the reward for her final task and discovers she needs to invite more people into the Society to raise her internal permissions, she’ll definitely find an opportunity to give me a Dawn Society Trial Invitation!”
“Quick, tell us — how did you talk to her?” Vasida asked eagerly.
Sylph perked up her ears to listen intently as well.
Since Lilith had already befriended Greta, the two of them wanted to leverage Lilith’s connection to deepen their own ties with Greta.
Lilith recounted everything she had done after entering the Gold Globe Flower Inn.
Mo Lan stared in disbelief. “That’s it?”
“That’s it.” Lilith confirmed she hadn’t left anything out.
Mo Lan: “…”
For this part, Mo Lan hadn’t written out a detailed script. She had only asked Lilith to improvise, deepen her connection with Greta, and casually let slip the address where they were renting.
If Greta wanted to invite more mages in the future, she would surely take the initiative to come near where they lived, engineer chance encounters, and build the relationship gradually.
She hadn’t expected Lilith to be so blunt, outright declaring them friends on the spot.
“What’s wrong? Did I not play it well?” Lilith asked. “I thought I was pretty natural this time! I wasn’t even acting — it was completely genuine.”
“You were too forward,” Mo Lan said. “It’s a good thing Greta is a decent person. With someone else, they might have taken you for a naive fool who’s easy to manipulate!”
Treating someone as a friend that easily — if that didn’t make her look foolish, what would?
After saying this, Mo Lan also reminded Vasida and Sylph: “You two can’t go throwing yourselves at her too! Going forward, when Lilith meets with Greta, you can tag along a few times. Greta shouldn’t pass up the chance to engage with you, and she’ll take the initiative to deepen the connection. Just interact normally — you can even act a bit aloof.”
Vasida and Sylph, who had been about to follow Lilith’s example: “…”
Seeing their expressions — guilty with a hint of bewilderment — Mo Lan gave up. “Forget it. I’ll write a few more scripts for you. Just follow them.”
She could see it clearly now: Vasida and Sylph were already dying to get to know Greta.
In Greta’s eyes, they were strangers.
But in Vasida and Sylph’s eyes, they were already well acquainted.

Gold Globe Flower Inn.
After the last dinner guest left the dining hall, Greta spun around and dashed off, taking the stairs three at a time as she scrambled up toward the attic. All the etiquette the Temple of the God of Light had drilled into her was tossed to the wind.
She burst into her small resting room, shut the door, and drew the curtains. Then, unable to wait a moment longer, she pulled out the Dawn Society Trial Card hidden in the inner pocket of her undergarment.
She skipped right past the reward claim prompt for Trial Task Three and scrolled to the very end.
【Final Trial Task】(Completed)
【Reward: Dawn Society Official Membership】(Available to Claim)
She had felt the task complete that morning, but there had been no time to come back to the attic. She’d considered ducking into the washroom, but worried that claiming the reward might release magical fluctuations that could be detected. So she had forced herself to endure until now.
She had been somewhat distracted at work all day, nearly making mistakes several times before coworkers reminded her.
Now that she was finally back in her little room, she immediately tapped to claim the reward.
What appeared before her, however, was not the Society resource vault she had imagined — overflowing with all manner of precious resources. Instead, it was a contract written in common language.
This time, she clearly detected the power of contract on the document.
《Preliminary Contract》: “I guarantee that I will not, in any form, disclose the contents of the following 《Dawn Society Membership Contract》…”
Another confidentiality contract. Greta remembered that when she had signed the Dawn Society Invitation, it too had contained confidentiality clauses — but they had been far more lenient than these.
Even someone as slow on the uptake as her realized that the Dawn Society harbored secrets.
“Is the Dawn Society a very secretive organization?”
Greta didn’t particularly mind. She carefully examined the contract, confirmed there were no hidden clauses, and signed her name without hesitation.
Immediately after, the 《Dawn Society Membership Contract》 appeared.
“I voluntarily join the Dawn Society, becoming a member of the Dawn Society, and willingly offer permanent active psychic power equivalent to 6 Mana in exchange for the right to use the special Magic ‘Dawn Society’ from Moira. Furthermore, I will resolutely refrain from any action harmful to the Dawn Society. Should I violate this, I will forfeit all psychic power as penalty…”
Greta finished reading the contract, and her gaze settled on the incomprehensible name in the middle.
All the other text in the contract was written in common language. Only that one thing — clearly a name — was in a script she had never seen before.
Even stranger, once she looked away from that cluster of characters, she found she couldn’t recall what they looked like at all.
It was as though she simply could not retain the appearance of that script in her memory.
Greta’s base psychic power was a full fifty points. Her learning ability ranked near the top among her cohort of Preparatory Acolytes.
She had self-studied 《Valen Common Language》 and Mage Empire language for just one year before being able to hold simple daily conversations. How could there possibly be a single word she couldn’t memorize no matter how hard she tried?
This reminded her of a legend. It was said that in Valen, there existed only two magical languages: one was Draconic, and the other was the Witch language.
The keys to these two magical languages were hidden within the magical energy corresponding to their respective bloodlines. No other race could ever learn them.
“I know what it is! It’s Draconic!” Greta concluded with certainty.
She had seen the 《Dawn Society Resource Catalog》. Besides containing an enormous amount of precious magical materials and magical items, it also listed many spices, sauces, and delicacies she had never seen or even heard of.
Dragons were famously gluttonous and treasure-obsessed. Only a dragon could possess such vast wealth and culinary variety.
Which Dragon had come among humans to spread such generosity?
As for the permanent active psychic power equivalent to 6 Mana required for membership — though it pained Greta to part with it, she didn’t consider it expensive.
True, this time it was permanent active psychic power. But once it was spent, she could continue meditating and training her psychic power, awakening more of her dormant psychic power into an active state!
If all she truly had to do was complete those tasks — which seemed to contribute nothing to the Society — in exchange for access to so many resources, she would actually worry that there was some deeper conspiracy she hadn’t uncovered.
Now she felt considerably more at ease.
It was said that somewhere in the Wilds, there was a Sorceress whose contracts could allow people to trade away their own magical energy. Those who studied Contract Magic would use it to elevate their Mana tier. Perhaps this wealthy and generous Dragon was doing the same!
In the past, no one had ever heard of anyone seeking out Apprentices for such trades — after all, the amount of magical energy they possessed was far too meager.
