Chapter 493 – Night Mist Apprentice

All of the Dawn Society’s resources were stored in cards, and the spatial slots could in turn store those cards.

The card storage album showed that she had ten free initial card storage slots, each capable of holding up to 99 cards of the same type.

In other words, she had spent just 6 Mana worth of permanent psychic power and obtained a Spatial Magic item.

When Greta had constructed the spell structures for those few largely useless Apprentice-level spells in her mind, each one had cost more than 6 Mana worth of permanent psychic power.

Just looking at the card storage slots within the Dawn Society’s Magic, she felt that the 6 Mana of permanent psychic power she’d spent was well worth it.

As for expanding the card storage slots in the future, that also required permanent psychic power. Two Mana’s worth of permanent psychic power could add 100 card storage slots, which Greta found perfectly acceptable.

Compared to genuine spatial items, 2 Mana of permanent psychic power was absurdly cheap.

Even though she was just an ordinary little Apprentice without much active psychic power, she only thought it was because she herself was too weak — not that the card storage slots were too expensive.

After Greta figured out how to use the card storage interface, she placed all the {Food Card – White Bread} she had hidden in the rest room into the first spatial slot.

These were all things she had exchanged with her surplus psychic power over this period.

Mainly because there was nothing else worth buying in the trial shop anymore.

She couldn’t bear to let her psychic power go to waste, so before each meditation session, she would convert her remaining active psychic power into Gem Coins and then buy {Food Card – White Bread}.

Even if {Food Card – White Bread} didn’t sell well in Lance City, she could keep them here as her own rations.

After all, the psychic power would be wasted if not spent, since it would recover after meditation anyway.

On the other side, the personal information interface took Greta much more time to figure out, even with the beginner’s guide.

    【Dawn Society Member Information】

    【Name: Greta】

    【Identity: Level 1 Night Mist Apprentice (0/10)】

    【Contribution Points: 0】

    【Gem Coins: 0/1000】

There were only a few items of information, but every single one was critically important.

In the Dawn Society, what mattered was not one’s Mana rank, nor one’s magical strength — only one’s identity level.

Identity level was linked to purchasing permissions in the Card Shop.

Night Mist Apprentice was the lowest-ranked member in the Society, with unlimited access to purchase only Level 1 resource cards.

A Level 1 Night Mist Apprentice had one opportunity per month to purchase a Level 2 resource card.

A Level 2 Night Mist Apprentice had two opportunities per month to purchase Level 2 resource cards.

    And so on.

Level 1 resource cards were just ordinary cards — the same tier she had been able to buy without limit from the trial shop before.

Level 2 resource cards involved some low-level magical resource cards.

After a Level 10 Night Mist Apprentice was promoted, they became a Level 1 Night Observer, gaining unlimited purchasing access to Level 2 resource cards.

In effect, each major identity rank unlocked one additional tier of card purchasing permissions.

After Night Observer came Beacon Watcher, Dawnbreak Scholar, and Guiding Mentor.

There was only one way to raise one’s identity level — by presenting a {Dawn Society Trial Invitation} to other spellcasters who could manipulate magical energy.

As long as the invitee accepted the invitation and ultimately completed the trial to become an official member of the Society, the inviter would receive 1, 3, 5, 10, or 20 contribution points depending on the invitee’s Mana rank.

Raising one’s identity level required spending contribution points. For Night Mist Apprentices, each sub-level required 10 contribution points to advance to the next.

Greta could tell from her contribution points column that the Elf gentleman had not yet completed the trial — otherwise it wouldn’t still show “0.”

Contribution points could not only be used to raise one’s identity level, but also to temporarily unlock purchasing access to higher-tier resource cards beyond one’s current identity level. This way, even if one’s identity level wasn’t high enough, one could still purchase a small number of coveted high-tier resource cards.

However, contribution point expenditure was irreversible, so spending them this way was less cost-effective than using them to raise one’s identity level.

When Greta first learned that the resource cards in the Card Shop were divided into tiers and not every member could purchase them freely, she felt somewhat disappointed.

But when she learned that a member’s identity level didn’t depend on talent or strength — only on the contribution points earned from inviting new members — Greta cheered up again.

Her elemental affinity was average and her Mana rank was only Apprentice-level — she couldn’t do anything about that. But when it came to inviting new members, she could still put in the effort!

The final Gem Coin column showed her currently stored Gem Coins.

A full 1,000 Gem Coins of storage capacity.

Previously, her Gem Coins couldn’t be stored at all and could only be used to purchase cards from the trial shop.

To raise this limit, every recharge equivalent to 2 Mana worth of other magical energy would increase the Gem Coin limit by 1,000.

Greta could currently mobilize only fifty points of active psychic power, and her identity level was merely Level 1 Night Mist Apprentice with just one Level 2 resource card purchase per month. This Gem Coin limit was more than enough for now.

Finally, Greta took one more look at the Card Shop.

Although she could only purchase Level 1 resource cards without restriction, she could still view all the other cards — and in even greater detail than what was listed in the 《Dawn Society Resource Catalog》.

Not only were there {Green Phantom Fruit} that could enhance psychic power, but also all sorts of wondrous {Magic Cards} and {Skill Cards}.

“Even with poor talent, if I save up for a {Skill Card} or a few {Magic Cards}, I should be able to protect myself!” Greta could barely contain her excitement.

Unfortunately, she didn’t yet have the permissions to purchase these cards.

Greta returned to the personal information interface, converted her remaining active psychic power into Gem Coins, then spent 10 Gem Coins at the Card Shop to buy ten {Dawn Society Trial Invitations}.

Earning more contribution points and raising her Society identity level was the top priority.

She put the {Dawn Society Trial Invitations} away safely. “Grumble~”

Greta rubbed her stomach — she was getting hungry.

She had just noticed some prepared food cards among the Level 1 resource cards, so she picked one that looked like it had both meat and vegetables and was relatively cheap.

    {Prepared Food Card – Spicy Pepper Beef Flavor Instant Noodles}

    Use!

A red paper bowl appeared, filled with a steaming hot serving of noodles.

Delicate, pale yellow noodles coated in chili oil, giving off an incredibly enticing aroma.

But… where were her meat and vegetables?

She fished around in the bowl with the little wooden fork that came with it, but only managed to find a few flakes of dried vegetables and what might have been tiny cubes of meat.

Still, the aroma was simply too enticing. She didn’t dwell on it any longer and hurried to take a bite. “Oh heavens! How can this taste so good!”

Greta completely forgot about the meat and vegetables — these noodles were so delicious they exceeded anything she could have imagined!
