Chapter 566 – One Dish, One Book

Krotack left the area, glancing back every few steps.
The moment he was gone, Mo Lan went with Vasida to inspect the plot of land she had chosen.
It wasn’t far from Vasida’s Obsidian tower — just a five-minute walk.
It was a neat, square lot with a signpost marked “West District, No. 199.” Right beside it rose the island’s ring of mountains. If a dragon came to visit, they could simply land on the nearby mountainside — very convenient.
Mo Lan mounted her broom and flew up into the air, eyeballing the lot’s dimensions.
“This is more than enough space for my mobile residence, and there’ll even be extra lawn outside the courtyard. Hmm… let me think. I might as well renovate the {Mobile Residence Card}, expand the courtyard a bit, and set up an outdoor dining area!”
She figured the dining environment would also help attract dragon clientele.
She’d heard that dragons loved shiny things. Combining this with everything she knew about dragon preferences, Mo Lan redesigned the courtyard and the exterior of the little building.
All she had to do was finalize the design and reforge the {Mobile Residence Card}.
It was done in just a few minutes.
Where there had been nothing but bare grass, a courtyard of eye-popping, hyper-saturated colors now stood.
The courtyard gate was inlaid with gemstones. A path of golden bricks wound through the grounds. An oversized outdoor dining area sprawled across the center. The outer walls were clad in carved green jade. The windowsills were made of red coral. The roof tiles were cut from sapphire. And perched atop the attic roof was an enormous rainbow Crystal orb, nearly as large as a dragon’s head.
Vasida stared at the courtyard, puzzled. “This isn’t the house you had back in Moon Harbor, is it?”
She had seen the photos Moira had sent — the courtyard in those pictures had been quite lovely, warm and cozy.
This one was beautiful too, in its own way, but the visual impact was overwhelming.
It was the polar opposite of her own Obsidian tower.
And really — who paved their walkways with gold, used jade for wall bricks, and gemstones for roof tiles?!
“It’s all to attract dragon customers!” Mo Lan declared. “I guarantee that any dragon flying overhead who happens to glance down at the island will immediately notice there’s a new building here!”
Vasida’s eyes lit up with understanding.
She didn’t doubt for a second how conspicuous Moira’s building was.
The sun was shining brightly at this hour, and just looking at the building made her squint — it was blindingly brilliant.
Mo Lan pulled out a wooden plank and a chunk of gold ore.
Using the Metal Shaping spell, she shaped the gold ore around the wooden plank. This way it was light enough to handle easily, but looked no different from solid gold.
Following Delicacy Island’s conventions, Mo Lan engraved text onto the golden board:
【One Dish, One Book】
【Rating: Five Stars】
【Chef: Moira (Witch)】
【Signature Dishes: Desert Salt-Baked Giant Scorpion, Explosive Crystal Ore, Tsunami Broth Pot, Moonlight Frosted Gemstone Cake, Golden Cream-Baked Rock Turtle, Permafrost Glacier Sashimi, Deadly Mushroom Mille-Feuille Tower, Lightning-Struck Deep Sea Octopus Tentacle, Rotting Swamp Blood Feast Platter, Hellfire Lava Roasted Whole Bull】
【Notes: 1. Only one diner served per session; new customers have priority; the same customer will not be served again within one week. 2. Only one dish may be ordered per visit. 3. Payment is one book the chef has not read. 4. Pay first, dine after.】
After the golden board was hung by the courtyard entrance, Vasida counted the dish names: “One, two, three… nine, ten — ten dishes, and I haven’t heard of a single one!”
“Neither have I,” came a voice from behind them.
“!!!” Vasida whipped around. “Krotack! Didn’t you leave?!”
“That Crystal orb was too dazzling. I got curious and came to see which chef had such fine taste, building such a gorgeous place,” Krotack said.
Vasida shot him a sidelong glance. “I think you just want to eat more of Moira’s cooking!”
“Would that be possible? I genuinely didn’t eat my fill earlier,” Krotack said.
“…” Mo Lan didn’t answer. She simply tapped the notes section on the golden board.
This rule was precisely her defense against a certain glutton dragon treating her place like a cafeteria and showing up every day — which was why she’d put it first.
Though Krotack didn’t look the part of a formidable powerhouse at all, he was a genuine veteran Beyond Peak expert.
His exact rank was unknown. There was no telling how many times he’d been to the Well of the Sky or how many unimaginable abilities he’d mastered.
When he came to eat, he was truly just here to eat, and Mo Lan could only dutifully play the chef and prepare his food.
For Mo Lan, serving a dragon customer who couldn’t provide her with dragon-tongue magic inheritance memories was a waste of time.
If she could get away with openly restricting customers by rank, she would have loved to engrave “Peak level and below dragons only” right on the golden board.
For now, this was the only way she could turn him away.
“Only one diner per session, new customers have priority, no repeat visits within one week?” Krotack, who had been hoping for another delicious meal, looked as if he’d been struck by lightning. “My visit earlier was for the chef rating assessment — does that even count? I didn’t pay the meal fee!”
“You’re welcome to settle the bill now,” Mo Lan said with a smile. “I’m truly sorry. I only came to Delicacy Island for a bit of rest, to meet some new friends, and if I happen to acquire some interesting books, all the better. I have no intention of running a proper restaurant here.”
She’s a Witch!
She’s a Witch!
She’s a Witch!
Krotack repeated this to himself as he grudgingly produced a copy oferta Mo Lan accepted the book with delight, then presented him with a recipe for Desert Salt-Baked Giant Scorpion. “This is for you.”
This had been agreed upon earlier.
Krotack: “…”
Damn it! He had Five-Star Chefs working under him too, you know!
He refused to believe that with the recipe in hand, they couldn’t replicate this dish!
He was going home to eat until he burst!
Krotack left, brimming with resentment.
Only then did Mo Lan look up and wave toward the mountain next door, where a familiar-looking red Dragon had been perched. Wind Elemental Magic carried her voice to his ears: “Want something to eat? I’ve got a super-spicy Hellfire Lava Roasted Whole Bull!”
The fellow had been craning his neck and watching for quite a while now.
A Peak level young dragon with bright, guileless eyes — the perfect candidate for reading memories and covertly learning dragon-tongue magic.
The red Dragon slurped back a mouthful of drool, shifted into human form, clutched his belly, and leaped down, landing steadily before scampering over to her courtyard. “Super spicy?”
“Ever heard of Hell Peppers?” Mo Lan asked.
“Yes, yes!” The chubby little red Dragon nodded eagerly. “They’re a tier-two resource exclusive to the Dawn Society — super spicy, super fragrant, and they boost fire Elemental Magic effects after you eat them! Too bad Hell Pepper seeds are impossible to grow, otherwise I’d have my servants plant them all over my territory! I’d line my nest with them!”
Even Mo Lan, who knew full well that red Dragons were generally obsessed with spicy food, was stunned by this declaration. “Among red Dragons, you must be the most spice-tolerant one of all!”
