Chapter 599 – The Witches’ Promotion Campaign
by spirapiraAn enormously loud voice came from overhead. Mo Lan looked up.
Witches on brooms came swooping across the sky in a great rush, broadcasting advertisements for her Magic Candy House using the Amplification Spell as they flew.
Every so often, they reached into burlap sacks hanging from their brooms, grabbed handfuls of golden-glowing paper, and scattered them into the air.
Mo Lan caught one. It turned out to be a flyer soaked in Holy Radiance Wood sap, prominently displaying the address of her Magic Candy House and its signature candies.
Under Holy City’s “sweeping” classification, these didn’t even count as trash—when they landed on the ground, they weren’t swept away.
Most astonishing of all, every single one of the witches had dyed their hair golden and wore pristine white Witch robes. They must have also eaten Magic candy, because their skin was clear and luminous, their hair smooth and thick, and their entire bodies seemed to glow.
Even the burlap sacks hanging from their brooms were pure white.
In the words of the Hermits, they looked like Angels descended from heaven to scatter holy light.
Every Hermit drawn by the “noise” to look skyward was moved by the sight of Holy City’s “tumors” finally embracing the holy light.
“Wonderful! I just knew that Witch called Moira was different. I never expected her to convert the other stubborn Witches so quickly.”
“From now on, I won’t have to worry about seeing those unsightly Witches when I go out.”
“The Witches have embraced the holy light too! I can finally move to 12 Nightless Road. I’ve had my eye on that house for ages, but there were Witches there.”
“What is this paper? It’s so beautiful!”
“Magic Candy House? Another Witch has opened a shop in Holy City?”
“Candy? Not interested. Sweet, bitter—it’s all the same. As long as it fills the stomach, that’s enough.”
“Wow! If you eat this Radiant Dawn Gummy, your whole body will emit holy light just like the Witches?”
“You can buy them with a Gem Coin Card! I don’t have Magic Gold Coins, but Gem Coins? Those I definitely have!”
“This Lush Holy Radiance Cotton Candy can actually regrow hair! My hair is saved!”
…
The Hermits weren’t interested in candy for candy’s sake, but they were very interested in candy that could make them better conform to the aesthetics of light worship.
There wasn’t a single Hermit who didn’t want their appearance to be flawless—pure as light itself, radiating holy luminance.
The witches used themselves as the spectacle to capture attention, then used flyers that struck right at the heart of every Hermit to spread word of the Magic Candy House throughout all of Holy City.
Those far from the candy house held onto their flyers, planning to come buy candy at nine o’clock the next morning. Those closer who spotted Mo Lan coming out of the shop had already come to ask whether they could buy Magic candy early.
“Nine o’clock tomorrow, grand opening,” Mo Lan said hastily.
Then she hurried back inside to continue preparing candy.
At the rate the witches were promoting, her candy supply might not even be enough.
Thankfully she had Culinary Magic to handle the work. Otherwise, she’d have worked herself to death doing it alone.
【”Eight-Times-Speed Gossip Alliance” Group Chat】
【Garona: How about that? Our promotion was on point, right!】
【Mo Lan: Couldn’t have been more on point! I bet every Hermit in the city is going to show up tomorrow.】
【Camilla: It was all ideas fromerta《The Earth Business Compendium》. That book is truly extraordinary!】
【Mo Lan: No, what you all did was even more impressive than the case studies inerta《The Earth Business Compendium》.】
【Agnes: Moira, your candy house is going to be wildly popular for a while. Need any help? I’ve been pretty free lately.】
【Melinda: Same here.】
【Bella: Count me in.】
…
【Mo Lan: Sure! I was just worrying about not having enough hands!】
【Garona: Then starting tomorrow, my tea restaurant will temporarily close. Once Moira’s candy house is on track, we’ll put on our rainbow battle robes and patrol the streets together to practice emotions on the Hermits! Otherwise I’m afraid some Hermits will actually think we’ve become one of them.】
…
The next day, at eight in the morning, people were already lining up outside Mo Lan’s candy house.
The witches rode their brooms in through the skylight on the roof.
Mo Lan gave them a tour of the first floor, introducing the function of each area.
Evelyn touched the beautiful large candy machine, and it dispensed a piece of candy for her. “We still have sample candies?”
“Every new customer to the shop—any unfamiliar presence as far as the candy machine is concerned—gets one free sample candy,” Mo Lan said.
Since she always spoke with the witches in Witch language, she didn’t bother concealing anything and said directly, “After your promotion blitz yesterday, twelve Light-Shadow Sprites visited my shop last night one after another. But they only claimed one sample candy from each machine. They couldn’t get into the candy machines or the workroom.”
“So the Angels really do have a sweet tooth! They sent Light-Shadow Sprites to steal candy the very same night!” Melinda said.
“‘Candy coin exchange, kitchen area—no disturbances, please queue in an orderly fashion, one person at a time, Light-Shadow Sprites and thieves prohibited from entry.’ So this is the safe room you mentioned, the one that blocks surveillance?”
Garona’s gaze was drawn to this room with its enormous Crystal glass window.
Even before she knew that Light-Shadow Sprites were the Angels’ eyes and ears, she had worried that Holy City was still under the Angels’ control. After learning the truth, her concern only deepened.
Unfortunately, without understanding the Angels’ methods, she had no way to defend against them.
At least the witches outside the Wilds had good unspoken understanding among themselves—important matters were always recorded in Witch Script, and conversations between witches were always conducted in Witch language.
But the idea of directly making a move against the Angels in Holy City the way Mo Lan did, without alerting anyone—she wouldn’t have dared to even imagine it.
Garona circled around by the glass window. “There’s absolutely no trace of Magic! It really does look like nothing more than an ordinary glass window.”
“The Alchemy runes are all inscribed on the inside. You can’t see them from the outside.” Mo Lan opened the door. “The candy purchasing process is all written on the display boards. No one needs to attend to customers out front. Come inside and rest for a bit!”
In truth, most of the shop’s processes were self-service. All she needed to do was exchange candy coins for customers and make candy—two tasks she could handle simultaneously, requiring very few extra hands.
She hadn’t invited the witches over to help. She’d invited them to have fun.
Joining in on the excitement was one of the key methods Garona had identified for keeping emotions running high.
The witches filed into the private workroom one by one, with Mo Lan bringing up the rear.
Euphemia had just stepped through ahead of her. Mo Lan was about to follow when a ring of energy ripples suddenly appeared across the doorway, and a small golden energy-form figure with wings was stopped by the invisible layer of spatial power.
“It’s a Light-Shadow Sprite!” Euphemia heard the commotion and turned back.
The Light-Shadow Sprite that had tried to sneak into the workroom attempted to flee, but was stuck fast by the spatial power, letting out a terrified shriek.
Without a word, Mo Lan hit it with a Light Flame Spell, burning it into pure elemental force. Then she calmly walked through the door, and the door swung shut with a snap.
