Chapter 612 – Emergency Notice
by spirapiraMo Lan was flying freely through the skies of the Holy City with the other witches when a light screen from Card Magic suddenly appeared. On the card album interface, the card slot holding the Communication Card was flashing with a conspicuous red light.
This was the important message notification feature that the Communication Card had introduced a few years ago.
Mo Lan had only set this highest-priority notification method for Lady Carmela, Madam Amisha, and the Witch Council’s official account.
For new messages from other important contacts, the Communication Card would at most emit a small sound.
She hurriedly brought her broom to a halt while calling out to the witches still maintaining formation, “Hold on, let me check… Communication Card!”
Before she could even finish speaking, she saw that the other witches had also stopped their brooms.
“The Council sent a notice!” Garona said.
All the witches pulled out their Communication Cards.
By then, Mo Lan could also see on her Communication Card that the Witch Council’s chat window was flashing, showing a new message.
Normally, when the Witch Council had something to announce, they would say it in the main witch group chat.
This official account was generally only used when contacting a specific witch or issuing extremely urgent messages.
Sometimes it went years without any activity, but whenever it did stir, it was always something important.
The last time she’d received a message from this account was back when Lady Anita’s incident had occurred, and the Witch Council used it to remind everyone once again not to use fireworks magic in front of other races.
Mo Lan hurriedly opened the chat window.
【Witch Council: News of Lady Anita’s incident has been partially detected by prophecy-type casters of other races. There may be further probing by foreign races in the near future. All witches currently abroad, be on guard against targeted actions by other races. Protect yourselves, and return to the Wilds if necessary. Although the Firework Blast magic within the defensive magic formation of the Wilds has temporarily lost its effectiveness, other defensive measures have been strengthened beyond their previous levels.】
After reading the message, Mo Lan immediately told the other witches, “I’m sorry, today’s rainbow parade might have to end here. I need to teleport back to the Wilds right away!”
“Go on ahead, we’ll follow shortly!”
The other witches wore serious expressions, but showed no signs of panic.
Ever since Lady Anita’s incident over a decade ago, the witches had known that the other races would eventually learn of it. They had long been mentally prepared.
“At a time like this, the most important thing is for everyone to return to the Wilds and consolidate our strength against any potential enemies! But Moira posted a notice this morning saying she was leaving, so it’s fine for her to depart immediately. The rest of us should not leave all at once!” Melinda reminded everyone.
Garona nodded. “That’s right. For now, the other races have only guessed from prophecies that something might have happened to Lady Anita. Even if they probe, they won’t go too far. If witches return to the Wilds in large numbers, it would directly confirm their suspicions and actually escalate the situation.”
“We need to finish this flight properly, then go back to the tea house like we always do. Once we’re back at our own residences, we can slip away quietly,” Bella said.
“Fortunately, we don’t interact much with the other people in the Holy City. We should be able to keep it under wraps for a while,” Agnes said.
“Come on! Let’s continue!” Camilla said.
The other witches continued their flight around the Holy City to complete the rainbow parade. Mo Lan, meanwhile, quietly extinguished the smoke bombs on her broom, activated her invisibility shield, and then used Teleportation to transport herself and her broom directly to the mist barrier at the western edge of the world.
She then used dragon-tongue magic Mist Barrier Teleport to travel from there to the mist barrier at the southern edge of the world.
From here, she was already very close to the Witch’s Wilds. One more Teleportation, and Mo Lan crossed most of the Witch’s Wilds to arrive at its northern part.
The southern and eastern sides of the Witch’s Wilds both bordered the sea. The maritime races were not as aggressive toward land-dwelling races—the only issue was the Dragons forbidding the witches of Delicacy Island from leaving.
To the west lay the Land of Chaos, a mixed zone of various races and small tribes. Its forces were scattered and posed no real threat.
To the northwest were the Black Forest and the Poison Mist Swamp, both saturated with Death Force and nearly impossible to cross.
To the northeast lay the Elven Woods. The Elves had just ended their civil war and could barely manage their own affairs.
After considering every direction, the stretch of border most vulnerable to intrusion and attack was still the Emerald Creek Plains section in the northern Wilds.
The terrain there was flat, it bordered the Mage Empire, and it was not far from the Yala Empire’s border either.
As things stood now, among all the races in Valen that still harbored territorial ambitions while possessing enough power to pose a threat to the witches, humans were without question ranked first.
Madam Amisha’s true form had been reinforcing defenses along the Emerald Creek Plains border for years.
Mo Lan’s Teleportation destination was also set on the Emerald Creek Plains border. The moment she emerged, she felt herself surrounded by tall, dense trees.
For a split second, she was nearly crushed flat.
“Since when did the Emerald Creek Plains have this many trees?”
A moment of confusion flashed through Mo Lan’s mind, but as the trees actively parted to make way for her, she understood immediately. “Isn’t this the Forest Veil Tree Wall Barrier?”
At the Witch Academy, the tree walls separating the core region, Inner Region, and outer region were exactly this. It was also one of the magics Madam Amisha had brought back from another world, made available in Knowledge Card form and listed in the witch edition of Card Magic.
“It’s no longer the Forest Veil Tree Wall Barrier—it’s the Forest Veil Ironthorne Tree Wall Barrier now.”
A familiar voice came from ahead.
Mo Lan looked up with delight. “Headmistress!”
“Welcome back, Moira!” Amisha appeared amidst the dense tree wall.
She had sensed someone suddenly appearing within the tree wall and came to investigate.
She hadn’t expected it to be Mo Lan.
“Headmistress, it’s been over a decade and you haven’t changed one bit!” Mo Lan said, then remembered something. “Headmistress, hold on—I have something urgent to take care of first!”
With that, she summoned the Book of Cards and began listing a massive batch of cards on the witch-exclusive Card Magic shop.
Magic Card – Memory Reading, Magic Card – Memory Fabrication, Magic Card – Memory Reconstruction, Magic Card – Psychic Control, Magic Card – Psychic Illusion… Magic Card – Blazing Breath, Magic Card – Molten Iron Fire Rain, Magic Card – Lava Scorched Earth… Magic Card – Frenzied Forest, Magic Card – Poison Barrier Domain, Magic Card – Humus Armor… Magic Card – Mist Barrier Teleport, Magic Card – Long-Range Teleportation.
Ten minutes later, once Mo Lan felt she had listed enough, she posted an announcement on the witch Card Magic shop forum. “All done, Headmistress!”
Amisha looked at the newly listed series of cards in the Card Magic shop, along with the announcement’s new benefit stating “all magic cards are available on a use-now-pay-later basis with interest-free installments,” and fell silent.
“All these years… did you raid the lairs of mages and dragons or something? How do you have so many mage spells and dragon-tongue magics?”
