Chapter 618 – Growing Slowly
by spirapiraChapter 618 – Growing Slowly
They had been keeping in touch all along, and just yesterday they’d been chatting in the Sorceress’s Home group chat. Yet once they met in person, there was still no end to what they had to say.
“Before I left Delicacy Island, I finally beat Igniwa down with my fists! My physical strength is now the strongest among all the young dragons in the Dragon clan!” Vasida flexed her sturdy arms for everyone to see.
Lilith gave them a squeeze, but they didn’t feel all that impressive. “You do look stronger than before, but these muscles still don’t seem as big as those gladiators in the City of Chaos arena! And the most they can do is fight Advanced magical beasts!”
“Looking like that would be way too ugly!” Vasida said. “The upper limit of muscle-based strength is too low anyway. Dragons have incredibly strong bodies, but they’re not all bulging with muscle either!”
“Vasida, what’s going on with your shoes?” Sylph stared at Vasida’s feet in confusion.
Earlier, they had all been lying side by side on the grass. Turning her head to the left, she could see Lilith resting on her arms with her chin slightly tilted up, and Vasida’s mouth opening and closing as she chattered nonstop. Turning to the right, she could see Mo Lan’s eyes sparkling as she gazed at the starry sky.
Everyone’s heads seemed to be at the same level, and she hadn’t noticed anything off at the time.
It wasn’t until Vasida excitedly sat up to show off her arms and Lilith sat up to feel them.
The two of them were a full body-length apart in seated height, and Vasida was a whole head shorter than Lilith. Only then did Sylph sense something was wrong.
When they’d been standing just moments ago, Vasida had seemed about the same height as them. How could there be such a difference sitting down?
After staring in puzzlement for a few moments, she finally noticed the shoes on Vasida’s feet.
The thickness of those soles was absolutely absurd.
Once Sylph pointed it out, Lilith also looked at Vasida’s feet. “So you were wearing those shoes when you beat the genius red Dragon Igniwa?”
Vasida tucked her feet back, but realizing she couldn’t hide them, she straightened up defiantly. “That’s right! Even in platform shoes, I can still fight!”
Mo Lan had noticed back on Delicacy Island but had kept quiet out of consideration for Vasida’s pride. Seeing how huffy she looked after being called out, Mo Lan consoled her with an amused smile:
“You really don’t need to torture yourself with those shoes. It’s not that you’re too short—it’s that we’re too tall. Your height is perfectly normal for Witches and humans alike.”
At one meter sixty, Vasida seized on the excuse, kicked off her shoes, and stood up barefoot with her hands on her hips. “That’s right! I’m not short at all!”
“Seriously though, Moira—you’ve learned so much mage Magic and Dragon Magic. Is there really no spell that can make someone taller? A magical item or potion would work too!” Vasida grabbed Mo Lan and asked.
Mo Lan shook her head. “If there were, I’d have recommended it to you ages ago.”
After all, this wasn’t the first day she’d noticed Vasida’s hang-up about her height.
“Ahahahaha!” Lilith couldn’t hold back her laughter.
Vasida turned to look at her:
“What about you, Lilith? You’ve researched and analyzed the blood of so many different races. Haven’t you found a Blood Magic that makes people taller?”
“I don’t have one that makes you taller, but I do have one that makes you shorter while super-boosting your strength. Want it?” Lilith said.
Vasida waved her hands frantically. “No, no! I can’t get any shorter! Any shorter and I’d turn into a Dwarf.”
“This Blood Magic was actually extracted from Dwarf blood. It sells quite well in the Dawn Society! Lots of mages buy it for family members who don’t have magical talent,” Lilith said.
“What on earth have you been researching all these years!” Vasida couldn’t help saying. “Isn’t your Blood Magic supposed to only extract the advantages of other races without side effects? How can there be such a huge side effect as getting shorter?”
“Because being too tall affects your center of gravity and your ability to exert force! Being shorter lets the blood’s power reach maximum effectiveness. It’s not a side effect at all—it’s just preparing the body in advance.
Not everyone can be like the Dragon clan and possess strength that surpasses their physical potential. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have put {Blood Magic – Dwarf Extraordinary Strength} up for sale in the Dawn Society while keeping the superior {Blood Magic – Dragon Extraordinary Strength} in the Witch edition of the Card Shop.”
After all that roundabout explanation, what Lilith really wanted to tell her was: “Your current height isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Maybe it’s just because your physical strength is so high that growing takes extra time!”
“You’re right! I’m just growing a bit slowly, that’s all!”
Vasida lay back down contentedly. “After everyone returns to the Wilds this time, you’re all probably going to wait until things settle down before heading out again, right?”
Sylph shook her head. “I’m already planning to establish a Witch’s home here and settle down.”
“You’re not going to travel anymore even after things stabilize?” Vasida asked in surprise.
“Not for now,” Sylph said. “These past few months since coming back have made me deeply realize that I still prefer finding one place and peacefully cultivating my plants. If it weren’t for all those plant seeds from around the world—and even other worlds—in the Card Shop, I might still go out to collect seeds I haven’t seen before. But right now, what the Card Shop has is enough to keep me busy for a long time. I probably won’t travel again until I’ve run out of new plants to study. And by then, I’ll probably go straight to the Well of the Sky.”
“That makes sense. Your Box of Ten Thousand Seeds just needs you to keep cultivating different plants to produce mutant seeds.”
Vasida could understand her choice. She turned to ask Lilith, “What about you?”
“I’m probably similar to Sylph. I’ve already collected most of the different racial bloodlines in Valen, and I can buy the corresponding blood cards from Moira’s Book of Cards. I’m not lacking research materials at all. I can find a safe place and devote myself to studying my Blood Magic. And there’s nowhere safer for Witches than the Wilds,” Lilith said.
After hearing them both, Vasida reflected on her own plans going forward:
“To be honest, I don’t even know where in Valen I’d need to travel to keep improving my close-combat abilities. Besides the Dragon clan, there’s probably no one in Valen who could withstand a single punch from me.
What I’m most interested in now is dragon-tongue magic. Moira has already collected all the study materials, and learning dragon-tongue magic in the Wilds seems safer than anywhere else.”
“Then you can stay in the Wilds and study dragon-tongue magic too!” Lilith said. “That way we’d all be in the Wilds and could get together like this all the time.”
Finally, the three of them all turned to look at Mo Lan.
“Don’t look at me. I definitely have to go out. I still haven’t been to the Abyss! I won’t settle down in the Wilds until I’ve learned the magic of every race in Valen,” Mo Lan said.
