Chapter 643 – Hungry, Hungry
by spirapiraChapter 643 – Hungry, Hungry~
It was Vasida who helped Flora roll onto her side so she could sleep in that position, and only then were the two sisters able to nestle close together.
Flora’s little face pressed happily against the smooth surface, nuzzling back and forth, while Tiana’s eggshell gently rocked in response to her big sister’s embrace.
“You two used to roll around everywhere together all day long, and now look — for the time being, the only place you can play together is inside the crib!”
Lilith stood with her arms crossed, her red hair trembling lightly along with her gleeful laughter.
She deliberately poked the crib’s protective barrier with her finger, watching the two sisters inside scramble about in anxious circles.
Sylph leaned down and gently stroked Tiana’s eggshell. “Tiana, remember not to bump into Flora too hard, okay? Her body is very fragile right now — it would hurt. Gentle hugs only.”
After all, if they still went charging around like when they were both eggs, the newly hatched Flora wouldn’t be able to handle the roughhousing.
“Gently! Gently!” Tiana’s eggshell swayed left and right as she carefully inched toward her big sister.
Flora immediately reached out with her stubby little arms to hug her sister, but partway through their playing, she suddenly burst into tears with a loud “Waaah!”
Tiana bounced anxiously in the crib, though she was careful the whole time not to touch Flora.
The thoughts transmitted through mind-reading magic were practically a duet: “Hungry!” “Hungry!”
Ever since Sylph had learned that the eggs would most likely hatch into baby witches, she had begun reading books like 《Witch Pregnancy Guide》 and 《Baby Witch Care Essentials》 — must-reads for witch mothers.
These precious materials, which once had to be specially delivered by the Witch Council, had now been turned into {Knowledge Card – Witch Parenting Collection}, freely available for every expectant mother to claim anytime, anywhere through the witch edition of the Card Shop.
Similar offerings included {Resource Card – Witch Mother Pregnancy Allowance}, {Resource Card – Witch Mother Housing Subsidy}, {Resource Card – Baby Witch Childcare Allowance}, {Resource Card – Witch Mother Childbearing Subsidy}, and other such cards.
However, Sylph hadn’t claimed any of these resource cards rewarded by the Witch Council. As a variant Sorceress, she had no shortage of those resources whatsoever.
More importantly — she looked down at the two sisters making a fuss in the crib — the fact that she had grown baby witches was still known only to Mo Lan and the others in their small circle.
After all, until Tiana hatched from her shell, no one could say with absolute certainty whether the fruit borne by the Tree of Life would actually produce a witch.
Still, even without that certainty, Sylph had carefully read through every book in the {Knowledge Card – Witch Parenting Collection}. How to raise a newborn baby witch — she knew it all by heart.
Mo Lan had read the entire set even earlier. During this period when there was no new magic to learn and hardly any new books to read, she had gone through the memories of the collection stored in her mind and prepared everything a baby witch would need from birth to school enrollment, turning it all into cards.
The crib that Lilith had produced was one of the cards Mo Lan had designed and created some time ago.
Mo Lan had also prepared {Food Card – Warm Kindlecow Milk}.
Kindlecows were a species of magical beast with a gentle temperament. Their milk was rich in nutrients and had the ability to soothe magical energy.
Whenever conditions allowed, all magical races would feed their young Kindlecow milk — it was even more effective than mother’s milk.
Now that Flora was hungry, Sylph could simply pull out a {Food Card – Warm Kindlecow Milk}.
Once materialized, it became a small baby bottle filled with Kindlecow milk, at a perfect temperature of forty degrees.
The bottle was a perfect fusion of the Continent of Valen’s magical materials and Earth’s design sensibilities — the body was crafted from Moonlight Crystal with exceptional translucence, while the nipple was made from solidified sap of the soft-rubber trees found exclusively in the Elven forests.
Sylph brought the perfectly warmed bottle to Flora’s lips. The little one immediately grabbed it with both chubby hands and began gulping it down eagerly, even her curled eyelashes trembling with bliss.
At the same time, her other hand wasn’t idle either — mana glowed from her palm as she began “feeding” Tiana. But Tiana seemed far more interested in what her sister was drinking. Her eggshell tilted ever so slightly toward Flora, as if she were “peeking” at the bottle in her sister’s hands.
Every time Flora made a satisfied gulping sound, Tiana’s eggshell would give a little wobble.
Sylph noticed Tiana’s subtle movements and couldn’t help but laugh softly.
She tapped the eggshell lightly with her finger. “Little glutton, this is for babies who’ve already hatched, you know.”
Tiana immediately gave an aggrieved little wiggle, but obediently turned back around and continued accepting the infusion of magical energy.
Still, the top of her eggshell kept drifting toward Flora every now and then — clearly still full of curiosity about that sweet-smelling bottle.
Flora seemed to notice her little sister’s longing too. Halfway through her milk, she suddenly pushed the bottle toward Tiana, babbling indistinctly: “Ah! Ooh!” — Sister, drink!
This innocent gesture made all the Sorceresses present burst out laughing.
Tiana’s eggshell immediately rocked happily from side to side. Although she couldn’t actually drink it, her big sister’s thoughtfulness clearly delighted her to no end.
It only made her desire to hatch grow even stronger.
She absorbed far more mana than usual before gently nudging her mother’s hand away.
After finishing her delicious warm milk, Flora was immediately full of energy again.
With milk stains still on her little face, she couldn’t wait to flip over and pounce on Tiana’s eggshell.
Vasida seized the opportunity to roll her so that she faced away from Tiana, which made Flora cry out in a string of “Ee-yah-yah!”
Tiana immediately scooted carefully to her sister’s side, even bumping away “Black Auntie’s” mischievous hand.
Flora happily stretched out her pudgy little arms and wrapped them around the smooth egg, nuzzling her chubby cheeks against the shell affectionately, letting out satisfied little giggles.
Tiana’s eggshell responded warmly to her sister, gently swaying back and forth in Flora’s embrace, as if returning her hug.
Lilith’s playful streak got the better of her, and she picked Flora up and set her down so she was sprawled on top of Tiana’s eggshell.
Flora was tickled into nonstop laughter, hugging the eggshell like a giant pillow, rocking back and forth without pause.
Tiana froze up nervously at first, not daring to move a muscle. But once she realized that “Red Auntie” was holding her sister steady, she began bouncing around to her heart’s content.
Lilith played with them for a while before losing interest, placing Flora back in the crib and laying her on her side.
The two sisters went right on playing by themselves, having the time of their lives.
From the crib came the occasional soft “thump, thump” — the sound of Tiana happily bouncing when she couldn’t contain her joy.
Whenever this happened, Flora would wave her arms and legs with glee.
The two little ones cuddled and hugged, playing to their hearts’ content, completely forgetting their earlier hunger and exhaustion.
Sunlight filtered through the crib’s protective barrier and bathed them in its warmth, painting this tender scene in a halo of gold.
