Chapter 747 – Three Thousand Mirror Ruins 14
by spirapiraChapter 747 – Three Thousand Mirror Ruins 14
When the students of Mirror Explorer Class One finally finished their laps and dragged their exhausted bodies into the cafeteria, the aroma of food that hit them should have been a comfort. Unfortunately, they spotted the figure sitting by the window.
Mo Lan was propping up her chin with one hand while flipping through pages. Her tray held a steaming grilled steak, and beside her sat a glass of juice with ice cubes floating in it.
Sunlight poured through the glass onto her, making her look fresh and clean — not even a hair out of place.
“Is that… Mo Lan?”
Bai Wei’s fingers unconsciously wrung the soaked hem of her shirt. She lowered her head and caught a whiff of the sour stench of medicinal solution and sweat clinging to her, feeling a pang of regret.
She should have gone to the rest room to shower and change into clean clothes before coming to eat!
“No way… is she even human?!” Lin Yue’s voice cracked. “Finishing sixty laps that fast is one thing, but acting like it was nothing?!”
She even began to doubt her own memory, tugging at Zhao Wuchen’s arm. “Hey! Is she really that bookworm from Class 3? I don’t remember her being that impressive in the physical fitness exams over the past few years!”
Zhao Wuchen gave a cold snort and shook off her hand. “Who bothers remembering her!”
Lin Yue shot him another look of disdain, then smacked her own head as it dawned on her. “I must be so tired I’ve gone stupid asking you of all people. With that nose-in-the-air attitude of yours, it’d be a miracle if you ever noticed anyone from another class!”
She turned to Su Yu and Chen Xingye. “You two have always had decent fitness scores, and your grades are good too. You must have some impression of Mo Lan, right? Was she always like this?”
Su Yu shook her head. “I only found out she goes to our school this morning when I read the newspaper.”
In fact, she hadn’t even learned all the names of the classmates in her original class!
Chen Xingye didn’t even lift his head. He walked straight toward the food counter, his actions clearly conveying “can’t be bothered to answer.”
After getting his food, Chen Xingye also grabbed a book and tried to read while eating, just as Mo Lan was doing, manners be damned.
However… he couldn’t focus at all.
His gaze drifted between the lines of text as waves of physical exhaustion crashed against his willpower.
The aching muscles, the throbbing at his temples — even the fingers turning the pages trembled slightly.
How does she do it?
He looked up toward Mo Lan by the window. She was absorbed in her book, showing absolutely no signs of having just endured the medicinal pool body tempering and the running drills.
“Hey!”
Lin Yue, thoroughly exasperated by Chen Xingye’s silence, stomped her foot and went to get her food.
She carried her tray over and plopped down in the seat across from Mo Lan, jabbing her fork viciously into her steak while staring daggers at Mo Lan.
Pretending! Keep pretending!
And yet, after staring for five minutes, ten minutes…
Mo Lan’s eyelashes didn’t so much as flutter. She was completely immersed in her book, unconsciously twirling pasta and steak onto her fork and delivering it to her mouth — truly reading and eating without either suffering.
…She’s actually seriously reading?!
Lin Yue finally snapped. She ground her teeth and squeezed out two words: “Freak!”
Mo Lan: “???”
Just because she could multitask — eating and reading simultaneously — didn’t mean she was unaware that someone had sat down across from her. She simply hadn’t spoken up first, for the sake of maintaining her persona.
Seeing that Mo Lan had finally looked up, Lin Yue couldn’t help but ask: “After you finished running, did you go shower or rest? How are you not tired at all?!”
“I went to the library.” Mo Lan swallowed the last piece of meat unhurriedly, picked up her tray in one hand and her book in the other, and said politely, “I’m done eating. I’ll be going now.”
“Wait!” Lin Yue slammed her hand down on the tray. “You went straight to the library right after running sixty laps? The Mirror Explorer Class library?”
“Mm.” Mo Lan nodded, her tone as flat as if discussing the weather. “You have to get there early to borrow books.”
Lin Yue’s eyes went wide. “What about the textbooks? Didn’t Instructor Yan Shuang say we should finish reading them quickly…”
“Already finished.” Mo Lan gently slid the tray from under Lin Yue’s hand, leaving those two words hanging weightlessly in the air.
Lin Yue: “!!!”
Already… finished…?
Her body was tired and her heart was tired. She instantly lost her appetite.
As Mo Lan passed through the cafeteria, a few students from other classes who had just arrived pointed and whispered at her retreating figure.
“That’s it? The number one student of Mirror Explorer Class One?” A boy with a buzz cut sneered. “Nothing special! Walking around with a book like she’s putting on a show… Real Mirror Explorers let their combat strength do the talking. Who cares about reading? I’ll admit she’s decent-looking, but I can’t believe she had the nerve to refuse the Wang Family’s sponsorship! Talent is great, but without resources, what good is it?”
The moment he finished, Lin Yue suddenly charged over from behind, slamming her tray down hard on the adjacent table.
“Did you score perfect on both talents? Did you last over an hour and a half in the Scarlet Refining medicinal pool? Or can you run sixty laps and act like it was nothing?”
Everyone knew who the daughter of Deer Cry Real Estate’s boss was. These boys might dare to gossip about Mo Lan behind her back, but none of them dared to confront Lin Yue.
However, another piece of news shocked them even more. “You… you’ve already used the Scarlet Refining medicinal pool?”
“Miss Lin, don’t you have theory classes?”
“Theory classes? Self-study is more than enough. Who needs a teacher for that?” Lin Yue scoffed, not bothering with these idiots, and walked away without looking back.
The students from other classes: “???”
So they’d spent the entire morning in theory class and even gotten assigned homework — for what?
Because they loved learning?
Mo Lan found the Mirror Explorer Class One activity room on the bulletin board’s map and teleported over.
The activity room was connected to twelve rest rooms, each equipped not only with a resting area but also a private bathroom.
In the entire school, only the students of Mirror Explorer Class One had a rest room each.
The room key for this activity room and Rest Room No. 1 inside had been sent along with her admission letter the day before.
After Mo Lan swiped in, she showered and changed into her own clothes.
The body-tempering suit she’d taken off bore her student number and name. She had already asked Instructor Yan Shuang — the suit had been issued by the school specifically for their class, and they could keep it.
This was part of the resource rewards the school gave to Mirror Explorer Class One students.
Beyond that, the medicinal herbs for the body-tempering decoction were also provided by the school free of charge.
While none of it was particularly precious, it was already among the best offerings across all middle schools.
Mirror Explorer Class One at Deer Cry Middle School could be said to receive more resource allocation than any other class across all mirror schools. But even so, these resources were far from enough for a Mirror Explorer to truly grow.
Mo Lan didn’t mind the dull gray color. She decided she would just keep using this suit and not buy a new one.
The body tempering itself hadn’t felt like much, but the clothes had definitely gotten dirty.
After washing and drying the suit with magic, she tucked it into her storage compact mirror.
There was still some time before afternoon classes. Mo Lan sat at the desk in her rest room and continued reading, only stepping out five minutes before class was due to start.
Lin Yue, who had just been jolted awake by her alarm and had recovered some energy, yawned as she emerged — only to see a certain someone walking out of the room next door with a book in her arms: “???”
