Chapter 759 – Three Thousand Mirror Ruins 26

Over the following week, while the other students revised and refined their field practice proposals, Mo Lan began preparing supplies according to Instructor Yan Shuang’s instructions.

She set clear boundaries for herself: for this field practice, she would only fight using the blade techniques and dagger combat skills befitting “Mo Lan,” the talented student she appeared to be. She would not resort to any abilities inconsistent with this identity unless absolutely necessary.

The same principle applied to her supply preparations. Every item she selected had to match her current identity—an ordinary student whose parents had both passed away, who had inherited a modest amount of resources but was by no means wealthy.

Using the materials left behind by her original body’s parents as card-crafting ingredients, Mo Lan’s Book of Cards was already capable of producing quite a few resource cards.

But when writing her proposal, she had still chosen only the most practical and cost-effective items for her current stage, doing her best to cover all essential areas.

Now she simply needed to craft the corresponding cards one by one, materialize them, and divide them into two groups—one stored in her storage bracelet, the other in her storage archer’s ring.

First came food and water reserves.

She materialized large quantities of {Dried Beast Meat}, {Refined Rice Cakes}, and {Drinking Water in Sturdy Leather Waterskins} cards.

Dried beast meat was tough and chewy, perfect for quickly replenishing energy. Refined rice cakes tasted mediocre but were filling and easy to store. And drinking water packed in sturdy leather waterskins went without saying—ready to use at any time.

These three items were the “classic trio” mentioned at the beginning of every book on mirror exploration supply preparation. Cheap and easy to obtain, they were the standard loadout for the vast majority of low-ranking mirror masters and students—a perfect match for her current “budget-friendly” persona.

In addition, she prepared a compact set of {Field Cooking Utensils} and some basic {Seasonings}.

If conditions permitted, she could improve her meals a bit. Gnawing on nothing but refined rice cakes and dried beast meat day after day would be rather miserable.

For weapons and equipment, she adhered to the principle of practicality, materializing multiple refined iron long blades and refined iron daggers.

They were identical in form to the weapons she had been diligently training with recently, so she could pick one up and use it without a second thought.

The reason for preparing multiple identical weapons was to prepare for the worst-case scenario.

If a weapon broke during intense combat, she could immediately draw another to continue fighting, rather than being caught empty-handed.

She materialized a generous quantity of miscellaneous survival items, fully embodying the philosophy of “when you have plenty of storage space, it’s better to be over-prepared.”

Sturdy rope, fire-starting tools, lighting equipment, field combat uniforms suited to different seasons and climates, signal flares for wilderness rescue, colored markers for marking paths or traps, and camping gear like tents and sleeping bags… she prepared twenty of each without the slightest hesitation.

After all, the two accessory storage spaces left behind by her original body’s parents were both quite large. Combined, she could easily afford this level of “extravagance” to ensure she had ample supplies available for any emergency.

Beyond that, there were items specifically targeting her objective—the phantom leopard cat mirror beast: high-powered flashlights, a portable playback machine, recording stones, and trap devices.

Finally came medical supplies and auxiliary medicines.

Hemostatic powder, hemostatic bandages, antiseptic solution, broad-spectrum antivenom serum injections… she prepared multiple sets of all these life-saving supplies.

As for odorless sweat-absorbing powder—an auxiliary item that could greatly eliminate one’s body scent and prevent tracking by mirror beasts with keen senses of smell—she materialized an entire large box as if they cost nothing.

Of course, she also prepared a good number of one-star shadow-element beast cores. They would come in handy later when she extracted skills and attempted to cast spells.

After finishing all these preparations, Mo Lan found herself with nothing to do. So she went ahead and prepared some additional items for her classmates based on their target mirror beasts—things their practice proposals hadn’t accounted for. Just being thorough, as a precaution.

A week later, during the review session, every student’s gaze was fixed intently on Instructor Yan Shuang’s every subtle movement at the podium. Each sound of a page turning struck their hearts like a thunderclap.

Yan Shuang’s expression was unreadable as she rapidly flipped through the resubmitted proposals, one after another.

Her red pen lay quietly on the podium this time, leaving none of those heart-stopping marks.

Time ticked by, second by second. When the last proposal was closed, Yan Shuang looked up, her calm gaze sweeping over every face below—each one tense to the point of rigidity.

The classroom was so silent you could hear a pin drop. Everyone held their breath, awaiting the final verdict.

    “All approved.”

These simple words left her lips like a pardon, and the tension that had wound every nerve taut suddenly released.

There was no praise, no additional commentary, but those two words—”all approved”—were enough to make many quietly exhale in relief. Some couldn’t help clenching their fists in excitement before quickly releasing them, afraid of being caught losing their composure.

However, Yan Shuang’s next words immediately crushed the faint relief that had just begun to surface:

“Having your proposals approved only means your armchair strategizing has met the minimum requirements. The real test is in the Kaleidoscope Wilderness. You have three days to prepare your supplies according to your plans. In three days, assemble at the Mirror Clarity Hall. Field exploration begins then! Anyone who is late will be deemed to have forfeited their qualification for this practice.”

With that, she turned and left without a moment’s hesitation, not a trace of lingering.

The instant she was gone, several cheers erupted in the classroom.

But having trained for so long under such high-pressure, demanding conditions, the students quickly fell back into the habit of thinking about what came next.

“Three days! Only three days to prepare!” The excitement on Lin Yue’s face was instantly replaced by urgency. She shot to her feet, words tumbling out at breakneck speed. “I need to contact my family immediately and double-check everything on the list. Especially that Tranquil Heart Jade—it absolutely has to arrive today!”

Chen Xingye’s fingers flew as he scrolled through his supply checklist, brow slightly furrowed, calculating the optimal procurement route. This time, he didn’t want to rely on his family.

Zhao Wuchen silently put away his proposal. He didn’t join the discussion but headed straight for the door—clearly intent on being the first to begin gathering supplies.

Su Yu took a deep breath and left quickly as well.

Her supply list was the most streamlined of all. Every bit of her budget had to count. She needed to make a trip to the hunter’s market outside the Academy to find some more cost-effective secondhand practical items, and all of that took time.

Wang Jingnan stood up and addressed the students sponsored by the Wang Family in a steady tone: “Don’t worry. I’ve already sent the list of supplies you need to my family. Most of it is nearly ready. Let’s go check together and see if anything is still missing.”

Zhou Ming, Bai Wei, and the others immediately followed him.

Without the Wang Family’s sponsorship, the supplies outlined in their proposals could never have been so thoroughly prepared.

Mo Lan didn’t leave the school. She went to the mirror exploration library, returning books while borrowing several new ones.

Someone always needed to keep watch at night out in the wilderness. The books would be perfect for passing the time.
