Chapter 807 – Three Thousand Mirror Ruins 74

Sensing the Moss-Forest Guardian’s pure intentions, Mo Lan was momentarily stunned, then shook her head with helpless resignation, a gentle smile curving at the corners of her lips.

“You…” She gazed at the thick roots still cradling the silver leaf-shaped mirror shard, even swaying with an almost ingratiating eagerness.

“You’ve only just awakened clear sentience, and you’ve never encountered any outsiders. Even though you’ve lived for so many years, your mind is as innocent as a blank sheet of paper, without a shred of guile.”

Seeing the silver leaf-shaped mirror shard up close, Mo Lan was now certain — it was indeed the spatial core she had been searching for.

The entire space was anchored upon it, using it as its vessel. To control it was to become master of this space — it was undoubtedly the most precious and important thing in all of the moss-covered forest.

Had it been any other intelligent being with even a modicum of worldly knowledge — even acting on instinct alone — they would never have surrendered it so easily. At the very least, they would have weighed the pros and cons, demanded enormous compensation in return, or perhaps even lashed out in violence.

Yet this Moss-Forest Guardian, moved solely by the comfort and enlightenment brought by a single Tree Friend spell, having sensed her goodwill and her need, had unhesitatingly offered up the treasure it had guarded through long ages — and with a clumsy earnestness, as if afraid she might not like it, might not want it.

This purity, beyond making Mo Lan happy, stirred in her a measure of emotion and a sense of responsibility.

She couldn’t take advantage of its newly awakened sentience and simple nature.

Mo Lan did not take the silver leaf-shaped mirror shard right away. Instead, she gently pressed her palm against the Moss-Forest Guardian’s damp main root.

This time, she was even more generous, continuously channeling Mana to maintain the Fifth Rank Tree Friend spell, bestowing natural energy capable of enlightening sentience and nourishing one’s fundamental essence — pouring it forth like sweet rain, an unending gift to this ancient and innocent friend.

“Thank you for your gift. I love it,” Mo Lan’s thoughts conveyed gently. “In return, I hope this energy can help you grow better and make the light of your sentience shine even brighter.”

She could feel the even more jubilant emotions the Moss-Forest Guardian sent back. Its enormous body seemed to tremble faintly from the nourishment of its sentience, radiating an even richer verdant vitality.

Only after completing all of this did Mo Lan carefully extend her fingers and, from among those unfurled roots, delicately pinch up the silver leaf-shaped mirror shard.

Upon obtaining the core of the moss-covered forest mirror space, Mo Lan had a mysterious intuition: she could bind it to herself and use it within this world, she could offer it to the Book of Cards as material, but she could not take it out of this world.

This was a warning from the world consciousness.

The Cherished Friend Invitation could only allow her to descend into this world and live within it.

Plundering this world’s important resources on a grand scale was simply impossible.

Small mirror spaces were also vital components that constituted the Three Thousand Mirror Ruins World, belonging to its core resources. Unless one had made certain contributions to the world’s development, Explorers from other worlds would not be permitted to easily take them away.

“Binding it to myself for personal use should be fine, though…” Mo Lan mused thoughtfully. “As long as the mirror space itself remains in this world, the world consciousness doesn’t seem to care who temporarily holds ownership.”

What slightly surprised her was that using it as material for the Book of Cards was also permitted — even without creating an identical replacement to leave behind in this world.

But after a moment’s thought, she understood the logic behind it.

When the Book of Cards analyzed material, it was learning the knowledge, information, and rules contained within.

It was like the most efficient analytical instrument, deconstructing and comprehending the material, ultimately converting it into a card-crafting blueprint she could use.

And material that had been analyzed would vanish completely.

But the Book of Cards hadn’t gained any extra energy from this process. Evidently, the energy that had constituted the material hadn’t been absorbed by the Book of Cards — most likely, it had been returned to heaven and earth. Were that not the case, the world consciousness would never have tacitly permitted her to use the mirror space core as card-crafting material.

After all, what was lost was merely a physical “vessel.” The knowledge of the spatial rules that constituted the moss-covered forest had been learned, but the fundamentals remained unshaken.

To actually craft the corresponding card, Mo Lan would still need to invest her own energy.

Since using it as material for the Book of Cards meant she wouldn’t need to return a mirror space to this world, she could save some Mana too.

“It’s just that this moss-covered forest mirror space is destined to become nourishment for the Book of Cards.”

Mo Lan quickly made her decision. She had no intention of getting herself blacklisted by the Three Thousand Mirror Ruins World, nor any interest in expending effort to manage a mirror space she couldn’t even take with her.

    However, a new problem surfaced.

Even if the Book of Cards successfully analyzed the core of the moss-covered forest mirror space and produced a {Mirror Space Card – Moss-Covered Forest}, it would inevitably be an incomplete version.

The Book of Cards could not use living beings possessing souls as card-crafting material, nor could it create living beings with true souls.

Mirror beasts, regardless of their star rating or temperament, were all living beings with souls.

This meant that even if she successfully crafted a {Mirror Space Card – Moss-Covered Forest}, there would be no Radiance Forest Deer galloping through the space, no White Dew Birds sipping dew, no Moss Rats burrowing about… and certainly no Moss-Forest Guardian — one that had awakened sentience and would gently tug at the hem of her clothes with its roots.

They could not be converted into card data, and naturally would not reappear in the newly born card space.

Moreover, to use this spatial core as card-crafting material for the Book of Cards, she would first need to “clear out” all mirror beasts within the space.

Mo Lan’s gaze swept across this tranquil and peaceful hidden forest, finally coming to rest on the Moss-Forest Guardian still cheerfully swaying its roots. Her expression grew complicated.

The low-star mirror beasts driven only by survival instinct could perhaps be dealt with, but the Moss-Forest Guardian was different.

It had just been awakened to sentience because of her. It possessed a naive yet pure consciousness and emotions. It trusted her, and without hesitation had offered up the precious treasure that had accompanied its growth.

Mo Lan thought for a moment, then used Tree Friend once more to communicate with the Moss-Forest Guardian.

“Would you like to become my companion? Come with me and see the world outside?”

The Moss-Forest Guardian was fundamentally different from ordinary plants — it possessed the ability to move, could exist independent of soil, much like the animated plants of Valen.

At her current level of Summoning Magic, allowing a plant-type familiar of hers to assume a miniaturized mimicry form and follow at her side was entirely within her capabilities.

“The outside world is vast and fascinating, though it might be a little noisy. But don’t worry — I can find you a quiet, safe place to put down roots. And I can help you become ‘smarter’!”

Mo Lan issued her sincere invitation with great confidence.

The promise of continuous spiritual enlightenment was something no plant-based life form could possibly refuse.
