Chapter Index

The Starsea Skiff leaped rapidly along its safe route, heading toward the location of the Immortal Realm.

Apart from Lilith and Vasida, everyone participating in this operation was a high-ranking Explorer who had undertaken solo cosmic voyages before.

Before this journey, none of them had ever experienced a cosmic voyage quite like this one—where they didn’t need to worry about navigation conditions, didn’t need to fear the dangers of unknown star regions, had a spacious mobile dwelling to live and rest in, could gather together to eat, drink, and chat when bored, could spar with restraint in the magic training room, or tour the sights throughout the mirror space.

This journey was still a long one, but for them it was far from boring—it could even be called comfortable.

As for Mo Lan, she had rarely shown herself since their departure.

Everyone simply assumed she was in the main control room piloting the Starsea Skiff, safeguarding their mission.

So when Mo Lan’s figure appeared on the green moss lawn after an absence of several years, it immediately caused quite a stir.

“Moira!” Vasida, who was on the grass sampling new cookie flavors with Krotack, was the first to notice her.

That call drew the gazes of many.

On the terrace of Traci’s home, Elf Queen Eliana paused her chess game with Traci. Several Witches practicing precision magic control nearby dispersed the magical radiance from their hands. The dragonbreath curtain was lifted as well, and Anita and the red Dragon Meridis emerged from within.

The relaxed atmosphere on the lawn vanished in an instant. Everyone stared at Mo Lan with tense expressions.

“What’s wrong? Has something happened with the voyage?” Krotack asked with a serious expression.

Facing the concerned and questioning gazes, Mo Lan blinked in slight confusion. “Nothing’s happened! The voyage is going very smoothly—we’ll reach the vicinity of the Immortal Realm in two or three more days at most.”

“That’s a relief!” Everyone let out a collective sigh.

Vasida patted the back of her hand. “You’ve been working so hard. We’ve been enjoying ourselves while you alone have been responsible for piloting the Starsea Skiff. Now that we’re almost there, you can finally relax a little. Would you like to try the cookies I made today?”

The more Mo Lan listened, the more confused she became. “I haven’t been piloting the Starsea Skiff!”

Traci, who had visited the Starsea Skiff’s main control room, explained on her behalf with an amused smile. “Clack is the one piloting it.”

    “Clack?!”

    “That little skeleton?!”

Everyone was stunned, their minds conjuring the image of the little fellow who had arrived in the mirror space clutching a wooden signpost.

That seemingly dim-witted undead creature could actually pilot the Starsea Ark, and had been navigating steadily through the peril-filled void for years?

“That’s right,” Mo Lan confirmed with a nod, a hint of pride for her familiar creeping into her tone. “Clack doesn’t get tired, doesn’t get drowsy, and doesn’t get bored—a born pilot.”

This explanation left everyone exchanging bewildered glances, finding it incredible yet unable to deny the fact.

After all, these years of travel had indeed been remarkably smooth—beyond anything they could have imagined.

“Then you…” Vasida couldn’t help but lean in closer, looking Mo Lan up and down with curiosity. “What have you actually been doing all these years? We tried to find you to hang out several times, but Zhizhi always said you were busy…”

This question voiced the curiosity in everyone’s hearts. Sensing the inquisitive gazes upon her, Mo Lan’s smile grew more apparent. She didn’t answer directly. Instead, she summoned the Book of Cards and drew out a single card.

“This is…” Traci’s gaze was instantly drawn to the card. As the Omniscient Sorceress, she keenly perceived that this was a new card.

“I’ve named it the Signal Amplifier.”

Mo Lan displayed the card for everyone, her voice reaching each person clearly. “These past few years, I’ve mainly been researching and perfecting it.”

She began to explain in detail. “As everyone has experienced, although the Communication Card has cross-world communication capabilities, actual cross-world communication is enormously costly and unstable.

Once we reach the Immortal Realm, we’ll need to split up for our operations. If we can stay in contact in a timely manner, it will give us a considerable advantage.”

Everyone nodded in agreement. This was indeed a shortcoming they all felt when using the Communication Card, but they had always assumed nothing could be done about it—after all, the distances between worlds were simply too vast.

“This card can solve the problem of cross-world communication?” Lilith asked curiously.

Mo Lan nodded. “I drew on technological knowledge from Earth and the Dreamweaver World, combined with Valen’s Alchemy Magic, to create this signal relay device that can be placed in the void.”

With a light tap of her fingertip, the card materialized, and an intricately structured polyhedron appeared in her hand—a fusion of technological sleekness and magical elegance.

“It can automatically capture and amplify the specific signal fluctuations of the Communication Card, and link to other units through preset nodes to form a temporary communication network covering a vast stretch of star regions.”

Watching the expressions around her shift gradually to surprise and delight, Mo Lan continued. “Once we arrive near the Immortal Realm, I’ll need everyone to carry some of these cards. Place them at key points along transition paths, or in suitable locations in the outer void around the cultivation worlds we’re aiding. That way, we’ll be able to stay in contact just like we do in Valen, and calling for help in emergencies will be much more efficient.”

After a brief silence came an irrepressible wave of exclamations and discussion.

“Heavens! In just a few years… you quietly created something this incredible!” Cecilia couldn’t help but exclaim. “If these were placed throughout the universe, wouldn’t that mean you could stay in contact with friends no matter where you went?”

Queen Eliana turned the Signal Amplifier over and over in her hands, examining it from every angle. “Lady Moira, if Signal Amplifiers were placed in the void between the Seran world and the Valen world, would that enable instant communication between the two worlds?”

Mo Lan nodded. “If there are enough Signal Amplifiers, theoretically even the cost of communication over the greatest distances can be reduced to roughly the same as communicating within a single world.”

“As expected of you…” Lilith murmured, gazing at Mo Lan. “We all thought you were working hard piloting the ship… Who could have imagined you were actually tackling a challenge like this? And you actually succeeded!”

“Oh, it’s not that impressive!” Mo Lan waved her hand dismissively. “I also read other magic books in between to relax.”

    “Magic books? To relax?”

Krotack and Meridis looked at Mo Lan with eyes full of reverence.

Dragons were generally not fond of reading. Apart from the magical knowledge contained in their inherited memories, they seldom took the initiative to study from books—nor could they sit still long enough to do so.

The others weren’t much better. Even Traci, the most avid reader among them as the Omniscient Sorceress, couldn’t manage to stay cooped up for so long with nothing but reading and studying for company.

During these years when everyone else had been vacationing, socializing, or sightseeing, Mo Lan had apparently been holed up in her study the entire time—and had even accelerated the flow of time!

Looking at Mo Lan’s radiant and energetic appearance, she hardly seemed like someone who had been cloistered away doing research for so long.

The ultimate grinder! She truly was the ultimate grinder!
