Chapter Index

The banquet ended, and the treehouse platform returned to its tranquility, with only the soft glow of fluorite lamps and the faint lingering aroma of roasted meat and herbs remaining in the air.

Mo Lan tidied up the remnants of the meal and carefully put away the gifts her friends had given her.

Once finished, she retrieved the transparent Crystal bottle that Grandma Matil had given her from the bedside cabinet. The sleeping flower dew inside shimmered with a clear, faint light under the moonlight.

She pulled out the cork and carefully took a small sip. The cool, sweet liquid slid down her throat, swiftly calming the excitement that had built up from the day’s hunt and the evening’s celebration. A heavy drowsiness surged over her like a rising tide.

Almost the instant she fell into deep sleep, Mo Lan’s consciousness was drawn away, descending once again into that dreamscape space suffused with pale green mist.

That colossal tree reaching from earth to sky stood silently at the center of the fog.

    “…You’ve come, little one.”

Tree Spirit Mother’s gentle voice resonated directly in Mo Lan’s heart.

“You did very well in today’s hunt. Next, I’ll help you digest the newly unlocked heritage memories…”

Tree Spirit Mother, following the usual routine, prepared to start from the beginning and explain in detail the newly unlocked, deeper knowledge about the three professions. This time, however, Mo Lan was no longer listening in a daze.

She raised her head on her own initiative. “Tree Spirit Mother, please wait a moment.”

“What is it?” Tree Spirit Mother asked patiently.

“The newly unlocked portion of the heritage memories… I’ve already gone through it on my own. Most of the content wasn’t too difficult for me to understand, and I’ve even memorized much of it,” Mo Lan stated her situation.

Hiding the truth and listening to Tree Spirit Mother explain everything from scratch would be a waste of her time. It would be better to use this opportunity to fill in gaps or learn about areas that the heritage memories didn’t cover in sufficient detail.

Tree Spirit Mother fell silent for a moment, a hint of surprise entering her voice. “…You’ve finished it? You understood most of it? And memorized it?”

Even an Elf with decent talent would typically need a great deal of time to gradually digest the heritage memories when they were first unlocked, sometimes even experiencing headaches. Someone like Mo Lan, who claimed to have read through and understood most of the content on her own right after unlocking it, was utterly unprecedented.

“Yes,” Mo Lan confirmed. To be more convincing, she volunteered: “You can test me on some of the more important content.”

“Then, as you wish!” Tree Spirit Mother’s voice came, and the dreamscape space suddenly transformed.

Beneath Mo Lan’s feet was no longer formless mist, but a patch of virtual grassland that appeared somewhat dim, its leaves slightly wilted. A faint, disordered natural energy permeated the area.

“Based on your knowledge of the zero-level druid profession, identify the problem with this grassland and provide a specific solution.”

Mo Lan approached the grassland and first carefully examined the abnormal natural energy. She quickly reached a conclusion.

“This grassland is likely affected by some kind of fire-attribute mineral underground. Fire elemental force is leaking out and disrupting the growth of the grass… In this situation, one could channel wood elemental force and water elemental force from adjacent healthy areas to gently flush and dilute it, while providing short-term support to the vegetation, and then find a way to seal off the mineral’s energy.

Alternatively, one could try stimulating the root system of that Blazerain Flower at the edge of the grassland, leveraging its ability to convert fire elemental force into water elemental force, thereby reducing the impact of the leaking fire elemental force on the grass. However, a simple barrier between the Blazerain Flower and the grassland would be necessary to prevent them from interfering with each other…”

    “Correct!”

The dreamscape shifted again. Before Mo Lan appeared several sets of overlapping, very blurred footprints, along with a few broken wood sprites and some nearly dissipated scents.

“If you were a ranger on a hunt and faced these tracks, how would you analyze and follow them?”

Mo Lan observed carefully, her mind racing. “The footprints indicate that at least two small creatures of similar size passed through here one after another, with a very short interval between them.

The inconsistent direction and height of the broken grass stems suggest a brief chase or playful scuffle rather than a simple passing through.

The residual scent in the air is too faint to identify directly. One could try using the ranger’s zero-level Magic ‘Scent Concentration’ to enhance it…”

    “…A reasonable assessment.”

This time the scenery didn’t change, but many sounds appeared around Mo Lan’s ears—singing, poetry recitation, performances on various instruments, and storytelling, all taking turns.

She immediately recognized them all as content from the bard professional knowledge within the heritage memories.

“Identify which works the content you’re hearing comes from.”

Mo Lan answered almost without hesitation, speaking fluently: “The first passage is the first two stanzas of the seventh song, ‘The Wood Sprite’s Moonlight Game,’ from the Elf nursery rhyme collection Mo Lan answered almost without hesitation, speaking fluently: “The first passage is the first two stanzas of the seventh song, ‘The Wood Sprite’s Moonlight Game,’ from the Elf nursery rhyme collection 《Whispers of the Forest》.

The second passage is from Chapter Three of the high Elf epic 《Dragon Shadows of the Firmament》, the section describing Nessarian’s first descent onto the battlefield.

The third passage imitates the main melody variation of the famous nature composition ‘Spring Brook Murmurs.’ The composer is the Astral Elf Elathel, and the performer is using a harp.

The fourth passage comes from the Dwarf comedic story collection 《Anvils and Beer Foam》, widely circulated across the Mainland—specifically, the classic opening of the story ‘Master Hammer Bouldo’s Unlucky Day.’

The fifth passage is the ending segment of the Deep Shadow Elf Lila’s masterwork 《Whispers of Eternal Night》. The performer is using a bone flute…”

    “…All correct.”

Three questions, testing the core abilities of three different professions—Mo Lan had passed every one with performance far exceeding the standard.

“…Incredible. You’ve actually absorbed and understood the newly unlocked heritage memories in such a short time, and even applied them flexibly… Based on the abilities you’ve demonstrated, I agree to adjust my teaching approach for you.

From this moment on, the teaching within the dreamscape will primarily focus on answering your questions.

But you must develop a clearer understanding of yourself, so that you can identify your own areas of confusion. I will do my utmost to answer them.”

“I understand, Tree Spirit Mother!” Mo Lan responded solemnly. “I will make good use of this opportunity!”

The opportunity was precious. She immediately seized the moment and raised the questions she had long prepared—the ones she truly yearned to have answered.

“Tree Spirit Mother, is casting will related to psychic power? Furthermore, does psychic power originate from the soul—is it a form of soul energy?

Could a being with a powerful soul, even if physically weak, possess an exceptionally resilient casting will?”

Her very first question touched upon the soul.

Tree Spirit Mother pondered for a moment before answering. “Casting will is indeed closely linked to psychic power, but it is not solely related to psychic power. Will is the direction and concentration of the mind and heart. The mind and heart are manifestations of soul energy.

A powerful soul can indeed give rise to resilient spirit and will, but one must still undergo tempering to effectively harness that power. If the body is weak but the soul is strong, the body will deteriorate rapidly!”
