Chapter Index

“There’s no need for formality. Here, we value resonance of ideas and the sharing of knowledge.”

Celestian gave a slight nod, his gaze sweeping over Zhizhi and the others behind Mo Lan, lingering a moment longer on Clack in particular.

“It seems your magical philosophy is truly very open-minded. I’m already looking forward to our exchange.”

A nature Elf — a race that deeply rejected undead creatures — yet she had a skeleton by her side. Nothing could better prove her inclusive mindset than that.

Tobias eagerly chimed in from the side: “Moira isn’t just accepting of the Death Force — she’s a dual-class druid and ranger at level 16, a high-ranking transcendent, and she also holds the rare secondary class of Gravewoods Singer.”

The moment these words left his mouth, several soft gasps of surprise rose from the surrounding listeners.

Dual-class level 16 — even within the circles of high-ranking transcendents in Quelariel, that was a symbol of considerable, solid strength.

“How astonishing! I’ve never seen an Elf who could achieve so much at your age!” Alfred stroked his beard and smiled, his voice filled with gratification and admiration.

Celestian’s expression grew even more fervent: “Though druid and ranger are both nature-aligned classes, they each have their differences. To have pushed both to high rank, your understanding of the forces of nature must run very deep.

And Gravewoods Singer… that touches upon the most profound and most commonly avoided aspect of nature — the cycle of life and death.

With you, the gaps in our Association’s nature magic expertise will surely be filled.”

At that moment, Tobias remembered something and interjected: “Oh right, Instructor Celestian — Moira also wants to serve as an Instructor at the Academy’s Advanced Division. That shouldn’t be a problem, right? She asked me about it on the way here.”

Celestian barely hesitated. He looked at Mo Lan, his tone certain and direct:

“Of course there’s no problem. It would be an honor for every druid and ranger student at the Academy!”

He turned and picked up what appeared to be an ordinary silver-gray metal tablet from a low side table nearby:

“I serve as the Director of the ‘Advanced Arcane Theory and Interdisciplinary Research Division’ at Starlight Magic Academy, and I’m also one of the permanent councilors on the Academy Evaluation Board. I have the authority to directly issue a ‘Special Appointment Instructor’ letter of engagement, used to recruit scholars with outstanding achievements or unique heritage in specific fields, without going through the lengthy public application process or the Academy Board of Directors’ vote.”

As he spoke, he rapidly wrote and checked boxes on the metal tablet, his movements fluid — clearly someone intimately familiar with this process:

“Your qualifications fully meet the recruitment criteria for ‘Special Appointment Instructor,’ and the appointment can be made directly based on your professional achievements and the uniqueness of your heritage.

Oh — would you mind if I read the identity information from your bracelet? It’s needed for writing the letter of engagement.”

Mo Lan nodded and raised her wrist.

Celestian aligned the metal tablet in his hand with Mo Lan’s bracelet, and the letter of engagement on the tablet was quickly completed.

“《Starlight Magic Academy Advanced Division Special Appointment Instructor Letter of Intent》

Appointing Party: Starlight Magic Academy Advanced Division (Arcane Theory and Interdisciplinary Research Division)

    Appointee: Moira

Appointed Position: Special Appointment Instructor (Nature Magic Direction)

    Basis for Appointment:

    1. Racial Advantage: Nature Elf

    2. Class Levels: Druid Level 16, Ranger Level 16, Bard Level 16, Gravewoods Singer Level 10 (verified via Mage Network identity authentication).

    3. Official member of the Old Seekers Association.

    Preliminary Rights and Responsibilities:

Must offer at least one elective course per semester (course topics to be determined in consultation with the Division).

Guide Advanced Division students in related field research or practical projects.

Participate in at least one Division-related academic event per year. Entitled to standard Advanced Division Instructor salary, research stipend, and access to the library and select laboratories.

Must comply with the Academy’s basic regulations and the laws of Quelariel.”

“Please review the terms. The Special Appointment Instructor position has relatively few constraints and places more emphasis on actual contributions — I believe this should suit your needs.

In terms of compensation and resources, it’s considerably more generous than a basic Instructor position, and befitting of your rank.

If you agree, you can sign this letter of intent right now and officially become a Special Appointment—”

Celestian was mid-sentence when his eyes swept over the class levels section, and his voice came to an abrupt halt.

“!!! Your bard class is also level 16?!”

An almost undignified exclamation burst from this Astral Elf who was renowned for his composure.

He hadn’t even been able to control the volume of his own voice.

Four classes! Three at level 16 high-rank! One rare class at level 10! Druid, ranger, and Gravewoods Singer were all nature-aligned classes with some overlap — but bard?

“Forgive me.” Celestian instantly realized he had lost his composure.

But he had no time to cover it up — he needed to secure her at the Academy immediately, right now.

He swiftly thrust the metal tablet displaying the letter of intent into Mo Lan’s hands, his finger urgently tapping the signature line at the bottom.

“Here — just write your name right here!” His gaze burned with intensity, as if he feared that even a second’s delay might cause this genius Elf to change her mind and vanish into thin air.

Celestian’s urgency — so contrary to his usual demeanor — drew the attention of the others nearby. Hearing his exclamation, they all crowded around to see the contents on the metal tablet.

“Bard… also level 16? Good! Good! Good!” Alfred said the word “good” three times in succession, the wrinkles on his face smoothing out with delight.

Viola still wore little expression, but those sharp eyes of hers carried a hint of astonishment when they turned toward Mo Lan.

The other mid-ranking members exchanged bewildered glances, the way they looked at Mo Lan having shifted from admiration to something closer to reverence.

Mo Lan found Celestian’s sudden “hard sell” attitude rather amusing. She took the metal tablet and quickly scanned the terms one more time.

It was indeed as he’d said — few constraints, generous treatment.

She had no intention of refusing. She signed her name without hesitation.

Celestian practically snatched the metal tablet back — his movements still elegant, but remarkably fast.

After confirming the signature was in order, he let out a discreet breath of relief.

Resuming his composed scholarly bearing, he said solemnly: “Then, Instructor Moira, welcome — you are now officially a member of Starlight Magic Academy. The permissions corresponding to your Instructor status have already been activated. You can check them through your knowledge bracelet.”

“Now you can rest easy!” Alfred said with a laugh.

At that point, Viola spoke up with barely contained impatience: “Can we get to the main topic now?”

She then turned to Mo Lan to explain: “To ultimately reach Suramalan and complete the bloodline atavism ritual, the prerequisite is that you must understand and accept the magical philosophies of all Elf branches. So we all gather here regularly, using specially made instruments to share the heritage memories of our respective branches for everyone to study…”
